+sweetcanada17 that's a good question. This feature is not avalable in fitbit because fitbit doesn't have WiFi built into it but there is another way to save your battery which I personally do. I generally carry two phones one android and one iphone. I sync my fitbit to the android and get the data from there. Fitbit software works symantianiously over different devices, so when the Fitbit gets synced to the android device the data is shown on iphone too.

+Aaron Bueno yes when you get the message the band will vibrate and then if you raise the wrist the screen lights up and you can see the message. Then it will go away,can't see it again.

seems like the option to choose which app for text messages is not available in the iOS devices.
On iOS you can’t chose another app for messaging.

how far away can you be from your phone and still get notifications on the fitbit?
its around 10 meters/30 feet. that may shorten if you have walls or other electrical disturbance.
can you raise your wrist to read the text message?

Yes the fitbit has to be in Bluetooth range (10 Metres) and from your app you will have to use the find my band option.

you cannot chose anyone on this but you can chose apps to get message from on an android only. it does not give you that option on IOS.
