Please
Hi do you have that problem only when turning the wheel right or left? I feel that lock lock noise at low speed when passing on a hump and also feeling that on my steering wheel and brake or speed pedal
Hi, im having a similar problem but on my car it only happens when its hot outside. And its does a knocking sounds constantly when it appears. Day after completely gone. Hard to show the problem to my mechanic.
Tighten it until it is flush with the housing or until the knocking stops. Too much tightening will cause it not to recenter when driving and also stiffer than normal
There is a very special tool to correctly torque this up as you have to measure the backlash at 3 positions etc. All this simple youtube DIY crap is a joke. Incorrect fitting will lead to permanent damage to the steering rack shaft itself, as it is 2 part shaft and it gets worn too, not just the bush. Tightening up until you get no knock is so pathetic as the centre is always more worn where you get the knock, not full lock position, where it would become way too tight. Either way, not my car, just saying.
Thank you Bro, I took an appointment at BMW dealer, to change this bushing. They didn't even know about this. When I explained to them they were surprised. The part cost $58.00 CAD, and they said approximately 45 minutes job. I would do it myself but i don't have a tool.
I have same problem on F10, is there any similar option for fast repair. My dialer told me that steering rack should be changed, but no chance to do that, price is wauuu.

Did you find out? Mine is doing this and I THINK i can feel / hear a bit of looseness under my foot, I thought it might be a suspension part but i think it might be the rack as it does have this issue.
RyanMCR i changed that part and the knocking is gone when shaking the wheel and the steering wheel feels so much better and sharper, unfortunately mine had a bit more of a problem than that and i got the struts replaced and ive still got the slightest noise when driving and tick when slow steering
And I see many f30s every week, some of them has more clunky some of them less clunking knocking. But when ever you start the engine the disgusting knocking sound disappearing. I'm pretty sure there is something else that knocking. And apparently this repair kit doesn't do,,, doesn't change anything while you driving.
Did you mount it without a torque wrench? This is a bit risky in my opinion. The nut should be tightened at 70 Nm and then loosen by 60 degrees. After that you need to check if there is no resistance on the steering wheel. It is important that after the turning maneuver, the steering wheel returns to the central point by itself - if it is not, you need to loosen the screw a little. Ps. Has the knocking stopped after installing the repair kit in your car? Everything works as it should? Does the steering wheel run heavier than before? Regards
hey.. i was wondering does 70 Nm goes to all nuts on all parts for all cars? if not.. where do you get this info. like you say, just to be safe.. i do not want to over tightened it or under. appreciate if you could reply me.

@@zaimzarif750870nm is entirely too tight. Ask how I know 😅 I had zero power steering until I backed it off a lot and ended up stripping the bolt part and had to shove a broken screw extractor in the hole park of the cap
I replaced this bushing but nothing changed, yes now when the engine is off there is much less knocking, but still some noise, and when engine running and i start to move slowly I still have a knock when playing with the steering wheel (right left). I thought it will disappear but it's not. So this bushing doesn't change anything. I just spent money for nothing.
The bushing will eventually need to change, the new one is an upgrade to the existing one. Probably you need to check the inner rack ends, they tend to go also.
