/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Whaaaaat ifffff.
Episode 6 of Season 2 has a lot to unpack from it and throughout this we're gonna be going through it all. In it we follow a brand new character created for the show who comes across the tesseract. I think this is the one of the strongest entries in the season and was surprised by how much the new character made her mark. Recently there's been a big move in hollywood to start telling the stories of native americans and so far Ive really enjoyed them. Prey was fantastic and this one is too with us getting some stuff in Echo coming next month. I got to see the first three episodes of that and though I can't talk about it too much yet, they do lean in with a lot of ancient native american history.
The episode was written by Ryan Little who went above and beyond to make it culturally authentic. Kahorri comes from whats known as the Mowhawk people and he consulted with language expect Cecila King to nail the dialogue. Little also worked with historian Doug George to ground this as close to reality as possible.
Well...close as it can get with a tesseract...you know what I mean.

They are going to maker her gay aren't they?
Kevin is misunderstanding the universe number given the fact that his version is not 616 since comic book developers have already given the universe number and is known as 199999, which is the MCU in the universe since he doesn't understand much with Marvel itself
what if America Chaves is from this universe ?
it doesnt happen centuries ago, Dr Strange cannot travel that far back, its a time when Europe never had a renaissance
Isabella name does not date anything, it would be used over and over and over again.
I happen to know Kahhori's creator, Ryan Little, and damn. I am so proud. This hit all the right notes and I can foresee this character hitting live action in 5-10 years
Well your friend Ryan did a really good job on this one. People has to be reminded where we came from, Nature. And Marvel Studios really did a good job on this one as well.
I really loved this episode and this character, it was awesome
Make that 2-4 years given how positive the reception has been. She's just not Captain Pocahontas. She's way more than that.
Thank him for giving us another Mary Sue. Couldn't have he made his introduction a little more organic? If the character had been introduced in a comic storyline or a standalone movie could have been better.
I have a Theory after watching this! There were so many "Familiar" powers in this episode like the woman using rain clouds ro water crops (Storm) super speed (Quicksilver) Telekinesis (Jean Grey) and a really Familiar scene with the bullets and guns (Magneto) I wonder if this is where mutant powers will stem from
From the Tesseract?
I could see this being the basis of the “mutant saga” in the next phase of the MCU, being that they’re trying to reboot it after ‘secret wars’ for continuity purposes and for new fans to be able to keep up. Interesting point!
Native Americans being the first mutants makes a lot of sense if they’re trying to do this in the 616 universe but this theory may fall if we think about the fact that this is a different reality since we’re watching the “what if…?” Show but I like your theory.
Apocalypse predates this time period.
Thanks for your hard work dude!!
Just finished the episode and was wanting some easter egg and explanations ASAP, this was a very unique episode and perfectly articulates why i love this show so much. I really hope we get a season 3
Mate. The show is called what if, why are they making whole new characters
@@ethanslegend8094 to do what the comics did.
@@ethanslegend8094”What If …” We got to see someone new? 🤔😉
@@floydcoleman8970 what if… they saved that for another show. This show should be involving the old characters we knew and love and events being changed. Such as the last two episodes this season which have been great.
@@ethanslegend8094
Exactly. It’s a good story but it practically has nothing to do with marvel.
I want to see the MCU if obediah stane had won in that first movie. What if dr strange didn’t become dr strange? What if Peter had willingly joined ego? The point of the show is alternate takes of characters and plots we already know.
Kahhori is very badass, Native American stories are very interesting to watch. I can tell I’ll love this episode
The Teseract is scentient so it chooses who to give the power to if left in natural state through out the episode the male Native character kept referring to the land wanting to help her I believe that was the stone seeing her heart and those of the people just my “theory time theory time theory time” lol
Good theory.
I think all the stones are in their own way. Space stone being self aware makes a lot of sense
Yup... all of the stones are sentient in a way. From Vision with the mind stone to the Soul stone
i wish the concept and power of the stones were explored more, feels like we are moving fast past them already in the MCU.
@@saidbtk Not so sure about that though. Loki could now be doing the job of the Time stone, Wanda the reality stone. The ancient one said that the stones are *required* for time to flow properly. So the power vacuum of Thanos destroying the stones could be turning entities capable of holding that kind of power into living versions or avatars of the missing stones.
That scene where they came out of the forest and hit the conquistadors brought back memories of Lord of The Rings: Return of The King when Aragon arrived with the ghost army
Yes, the same boring cheated out of fight scene sequence 🥱
My favourite ep so far❤
Safed the episode for now, gonna come back to the breakdown right after it ! Even bought the Kahhori (Kah-Horti) Soda Funko and didn’t opened it yet, maybe it’s gonna be a chase variant ✌️👌
Hopefully they make a Funko pop figure... I have a "special" place to put her in *evil chuckle*
Oh man I hope Kahori shows up in an MCU project or something! I’d love to see her go toe to toe with a big bad. Also!! Happy to see another MT video is on the way! Yippee 🥳
Such a good season of what if?. 2 great shows in a row Loki season 2 before this. And of this episode really appreciated that it was in Native language too. Hopefully with echo they can make it 3 in a row. Hope you had a great Christmas with your family, of course that should be first, I’ll click the like anyway. 😅
This episode had to be feature length. It showed how much potential Kahhori's character has. So much better than much of the MCU phases 4 & 5.
Brother I gotta commend you guys speed on these
I think they were testing the waters to how fans feel about kahhori and debut her in a what if scenario, if everything went well then tey would green lit a live action
Interesting episode I think I liked last years What If. But I’m trying to like it but i can’t get into Dr Strange
I still remember Clancy Brown as the”bad” guy in the original Highlander. Just a request Paul could you do a Heavy Spoiler background segment on the original The Highlander. Christopher Lambert “accent” can’t be replicated. Clancy Brown was terrifying as a kid.
Yeah no doubt. Will definitely cover it one day. Even just to hear Freddie Mercury singing who wants to live forever.
@@heavyspoilers Thanks Paul! Yeah Queen’s soundtrack was just great! So many have forgotten that gem. The ballad was wonderful! I always wondered why Queen did that soundtrack but hey Toto did the soundtrack for the first Dune movie . The soundtrack was the best part of that movie. lol Steve Lukather’s guitar playing was awesome! Thank you for considering The Highlander!
I’m having a stroke trying to read this
@@kylebroflovski9690 why a stroke? Two great bands wrote great scores for movies that basically bombed at the theatre’s. Unless I’m misunderstanding that was just a comparison Queen was great they used it in the TV series. But the Highlander bombed in the theatres but thrived thanks to VHS The ballad was awesome. Toto same thing great soundtrack bombed in the theaters but picked up a cult on VHS too. It was an analogy
Finally they made a new original character, instead of just replacing an existing character.
Though isn’t that exactly what we want from what if? We want to see alternative versions of known characters.
I actually went to middle school and high school on the Jemez Indian Reservation in Northern New Mexico. I have many Native American friends and this episode was done so well. I’m Spanish so this also hit on so many emotional levels. It’s hard to put into words but let’s just say it was a beautiful episode. If you’re ever interested on the Spanish vs Native American history I know allot and I’ll just DM you on Instagram. Cheers as always.
I am interested, really I'm interested in the time frame, are these 1200's? 1100's? Or later like 1300's early 1400's
This episode is great. Love it.
PS. The end made me upset because Strange should wait until the peace talk is over 😤
And alternatively, if they have such a power, they could make a power barrier to protect their continent from the European.
Absolutely fantastic episode. This entire season is fire
I 100% agree I absolutely loved this episode
I've been pretty underwhelmed by the first five episodes, but this one was really great.
@@BillH2949I agree bro marvel these days is just underwhelming
@@BillH2949nah just the first 3.
Minute of silence to all who watched this episode without subtitles ❤

This episode was beyond amazing
I love this episode , i hope they can make a live action version of her
I definitely enjoyed the origin of Kahhori and look forward to seeing her again.
What a fricking episode. Astonishing animation. Amazing Execution. Thrilling story. That marvelous score. With a Spectacular written character to boot. Pure suspense. With a little bit of strange. That's FRICKING marvel. Need a few more rewatches but i daresay it's giving "What If... Dr Strange lost his Heart" a run for it's money.
Nah that story is elite and changed the path of what if twice.
@@morellalizziediamond as a descendant of native Americans, I think this is as elite. It was so genuinely creative on premise, plot and action. Both take their topic of blessed with the power of infinity as serious as possible. Both used their gifts to affect their world. One used it selfishly one used it in balance with the world around her. Maybe you didn't grow up wondering what if... my ancestors were never subjugated. But I did. One is a question I've asked my whole life, one was a spectacular reimagining of a story we loved. Frankly, originality matters a lot to me. But to each their own. You said twice like the season is over. Kahhori is literally at the same level as Strange that he addresses her as an equal. I liked that little touch. Cause again that's literally the best episode so far but this is quickly coming up. Now if they stick the landing with 1602 we're gonna be in for a hell of a ride. Episode to episode yeah it gives it a run for it's money story arc is not yet over. Comparing Supreme Strange's arc to Kahhori's is a little unfair rn. But his arc didn't end in his own episode. He didn't learn shit. Just forced to deal with his action. It was amazing. But the arc was open ended.
This episode was my favorite.
PLEASE make a video on “No One will Save You”
7:49 He's from the Turtle Clan and she's from the Wolf Clan. The Clans are like families in their culture.
“Smoke Signals” 1998
I legit thought she was spider weaver form marvel strike force . They missed out on that one
If I hear one more youtuber complaining about making videos during the holidays, Im gonna lose it!!! Thanks for not complaining 😊
MT called it! The MCU could be the Kahhori-verse and I'd be hyped!
I think 616 just refers to the main universe. I guess the MCU has retconned itself to be a separate multiverse from the Comic’s multiverse because America said in MoM that she’s the only variant of herself. So the MCU is separate from the comics and 616 is the main universe the audience follows of each universe.
would love captions didnt know what anyone was saying
Thank you Paul.
I now see why Namor hates the surface world so much in Wakanda Forever
How is any of this connected to the greater MCU? I don't get it. What am I missing and where is this going? Is this just because of DEI or what? Namor and Echo I get, but Kahhori?
I feel like the cultural significance and history of my region and peoples of this country were somewhat misrepresented or embelished or flat out reimagined just to make it cooler when it was cool enough already. The Fountain of Youth is in Saint Augustine. The Spanish landed there and slaughtered countless native americans. Why does EVERYTHING have to happen in NEW YORK!?!
By the way, the dynasty that Isabella belonged isn't the current ruling one in Spain
this was the best episode of the season yet
It looks like the cube cracked but all it’s pieces are inside it? That never adds up to anything after all that shard collecting since there really small I guess? Still wonder did red skull end up in the cube? They never explain how Loki goes from a point in space and comes out of the tesseract without having the cube ? At least carter goes in it and out it .
If i had a nickel whenever our heroes have to fight an army , i would've had 3 nickels , which isnt a lot but its weird that it has happened thrice
Great episode
Excellent episode
If they do a soft reboot of the character and decide to replace carol danvers with Kahhori i will not complain. In those 30 minutes she gained much more of my sympathy than carol in almost 4 hours of the movie. I want to see more of her.
Mandatory. As a white man.
So in that universe there is no Americas, no Latin America, and possibly no 13 colonies
“Cumberbatch is Cumber-back” hahahahah
8:01 Kahhori says she’s wolf because she’s wolf clan, a band of native Americans. There are a lot of different types out there, and like Kahhori’s people, not all of them were nomadic
9:20 yea I knew smthn was off with the conquistadors lol. And yea they never enslaved the indians, however, i cant remember if they enforced their beliefs in catholicism or freely allowed them to.
Absolutely amazing episode! Can’t wait to watch more of it and it’s translation into the MCU film universe
I like the message of this episode.👍The corn, beans and squash represents native american agriculture.
Yay MT next episode…. Oh did I say that out loud 😅
A whole universe of diverse interesting characters and they HAD to make a new character just to force inclusivity. When I saw this shit in the trailer, my stomach literally turned.
With the Natives being this powerful, does this mean the United States ceases to exist and develop in this universe?
Ngl I thought she was Wave
So let me get this straight, Disney/Marvel introduced us a whole new batch of new characters in these last phases, and instead of use those established characters, give them the spotlight put them in interesting situations to make us care about them more. They decide to introduce a completely never seen character in a 34 minute episode? I love Marvel but it keeps failing at being consistent.
There’s not really a Earth 616 vs 199999 debate. Everything inside of the MCU has called it 616 and according to Feige it’s 616. Movies not made by Marvel Studios don’t have a say on what is MCU canon.
Anyone notice how every episode is about a woman 🤔
but where was ferdinand during all this?
Don’t worry about being wrong about Queen Isabella. It’s an alternate universe! 😉
couldn’t understand much given the language barrier😂😅
Oh and another thing. They need to allow the folks writing this season to have more responsibility. Let them write the movies. Let them cook.
It was significant that Kahhori was speaking Spanish rather than Mohawk when she approached Isabela at the end. Shows not just the passing of time, which we get from the different failed expeditions of conquistadors listed, but also the power, intelligence, and benevolence of Kahorri to come to Isabela in her own language, when Isabela is portrayed as not even acknowledging the dignity of the native people in the “new world,” let alone trying to understand their culture or language.
I really loved the commitment to language in this episode. The conquistadors only speak Spanish, and Kahhori and her people speak Mohawk. Only the Watcher speaks English, and i just thought that was beautiful. Can't wait to see more Kahhori
Watcher and Strange*
Yes and they put European Spanish, like most of the time they put Mexican Spanish regardless of context.
For real! I'm glad they did that.
@@patax144 They try to, the effort is recognazible, however i don't now why they didn't hire Iberian Spanish voice actors.
I would’ve watched an entire movie about this episode. This is arguably the first original MCU content since the guardians of the galaxy and it was incredible.
So many of the What If episodes feel like they could be developed into movies so easily!
Yeah I really wanted this to be developed more. I loved the concept of a wholly original MCU character but the runtime didn't do the plot justice. Still a fun episode tho
The opening wasn’t about just corn, and the Mohawk and the Dine are so far apart they probably never met and have greatly different way. Let’s start with the corn. I’m Cherokee, not Mohawk, but we used to be close and the little I learned was close to their learning. The three sisters were shown. The corn, squash, and bean were planted together to keep the lands fertile. Y’all came over here, found corn, and planted it alone making the dust bowl, no one listens to the elders. The dine don’t bury their dead, they put them in above ground mounds, if the rites to release their spirts are not done quickly, the hogun a person died in is abandoned and that becomes the mound. The Dine spirits are thought to have good and bad aspects, with the bad becoming the dust devils and such. I am surprised that the five tribes were not talked about only the Mohawk. But they were groups banded together and the framework for the later untied states. Of course they banded together to keep the larger Cherokee at bay.
Honestly the Chickasaw are a subset of Choctaw that split into their own tribe originally the Choctaw were pretty large. I wonder if a United Choctaw could have held the Europeans at bay longer. Either way history would have repeated similarly
Your comment is the best thing ive read in a long long time,.( no one listens to the elders) facts!!
We’re definitely seeing Kahhori in Secret Wars aren’t we? 😂
Let’s hope not!

I am Calling it all the hero's will be changed to minority females right before Mcu goes bankrupt.
You would be wrong
Not with all those subtitles. 😳
So refreshing to have a new story, wish the powers were more defined though. Everyone's default abilities are invulnerability and shooting laser blasts.
Their powers is the Tesserac (AKA, the space infinity stone) they are living tesseracs in this universe it seems. So basically, they can travel anywhere in the entire universe, which is why I think Dr Strange is there, cause she might be able to travel the multiverse.
Its pretty much mcu's version of the speedforce, it can be whatever the plot requires it to be
Fun episode and pretty impressive how quickly you get these up
Because they're pre-made
Dope episode. It needs a whole separate movie or series, It felt like watching Avatar Kyoshi in action
It would be such a waste and shame to only have Kahhori in this (and whatever upcoming ep.) of What If. We NEED a live action variant asap. She’s a dope character…
She's coming bro. Marvel never fails to make a new bland and generic female character for their agenda

Amber Midthunder needs to play the Live Action Kahhori if they make her live action..
When Kahhori started fighting the conquistadors I yelled "Yeah!! Woooooo!! Fuck'em up!"
These episodes are weak. They seem made just for something in the final episode. Disappointing season, loved the first one and watched it several times again, here I’m fast forwarding trough every episode but the 4th.
This season is garbage , no x men , series 1 was good but the eps so far been rubbish this is the only episode so far that’s been half decent
I really enjoyed this episode and appreciate the effort they made to work along with the Mohawk Nation. With that said, I don’t get why they used Conquistadores as opposed to the English/French or Dutch who arrived in that area of the country. If they were dead set on using the Spanish, they could have placed it in Florida where they were looking for the fountain of youth and used the Seminole nation or another indigenous tribe from the area. But I do hope they bring her back again.
Finally someone who brings this Up, i was kind of confused when watching this because a was tought otherwise.
I was a little confused too, but I figured it's just another facet of the story being set in a different universe. If the conquistadors had heard of the powers of the Tesseract lake, they might indeed have pushed north instead of chasing after gold into central and south America.
Well I'm from latin America and I recognize that the conquistadores españoles weren't saints, however all the things that the episode show were in reality made by British conquerors, Spain never reach the same level as them however for some reason they only think in Spain when talking about the colonization of America.
Your comment leads me to wonder - were the conquistadors the earliest major invasion / colonization force from Europe? My vague sense is that the British and northern European invaders came somewhat later. If that's true, that might be why they were used in this context.
I was taken aback by just too much native Americans are perfect virtue-slinging stuff. Forgive me, yes they where already here but it is not that simple as in the story.
Well since you were taken aback, how much history do you want them to cram into a 30 minute superhero show?
@@bougiebohemian5393 I have read a lot of history including such books as "The Long Death" that depict a sad but intensely honest history of Native Americans. I do not think it serves anyone by romanticizing people to the point they did. I will leave it at that.
Ever since South Park's burn on Kathleen Kennedy I tend to take any new female character with skepticism
Probably the best episode of what if
Naaah! Strange Supreme, then Iron man on sakar. This was ok.
Great episode. With supreme strange tho and the group, they would be too OP. A super wizard plus almost invulnerable group of speedsters/telekenetic.
I'm a bit concerned that they will nerf either the group or strange for who's their enemy.
What if... Pocahontas had superpowers ;)
Definitely wowed and intrigued by Kahhori episode. There’s so much to uncover within the indigenous Indian (US) culture and history.
Paul, I'm a little disappointed you didn't notice the way Kahhori stopped the bullets from the Spanish Conquistadores was a clear reference to The Matrix.
So stopping bullets has to always be noted from matrix? That movie is almost 25 years old phucker
As a Native American of the Mi'kmaw tribe I now understand the African American hype on Black Panther. It feels good to have a badass with your native ties for once thank you Marvel. I have close ties with to Mohawk nation in my family and Province as well, it just feels nice to have a representation of a hero without just slapping some random person in another established heroes story. The perfect example if you want to make a new character to represent a race, put some real effort and originality into it not copy paste into another hero.
Good episode. Seeing Strange Supreme here makes me really wish that he was the evil Strange that appeared in Dr. Strange 2.

Spain never reached those lands. It was the English and the French who massacred the Mohawk. There is a very famous novel that tells those events (and a movie)
The Last of the Mohicans. By the way, the condition of a subject in kingdoms is the same as that of a citizen in republics (that means Isabel converted the indigenous people into Spaniards. Not only that, most indigenous nobles became Spanish nobles, like the Moctezuma family. That is why the liberator Simon Bolivar had to massacre the families of the Peruvian Inca Empire. Tupac Amaru fought against the Spanish authorities to be able to inherit titles and properties in Spain and he succeeded, that is why Peru never wanted to be independent). Regarding the treatment of the Spanish empire towards the indigenous people, it is interesting to read about Isabel's last will, the Valladolid controversy and the Indian laws. It is also interesting to read about the case of the Cuera Dragons and Fort Mose. In fact, as Zunzunegui explains, the massacres of indigenous people are a legacy of independence (from the founding fathers of each of the American countries ), not from the Spanish conquerors. Likewise, the highest percentage of taxes that Spain collected was barely 7.2 and all the gold that Spain extracted for 300 years is equivalent to the annual extraction rate of countries like Mexico, Peru or the Dominican Republic.
With respect to the ability to understand between indigenous people and Spaniards, it must be remembered that the first language that developed a regulated grammar was Spanish and that indigenous languages were grammaticalized based on the grammar of the Spanish language. There was a grammar of Nahuatl long before a grammar of English, French or German. In fact, the anecdote of the Africans who escaped from the cotton fields of Virginia to Spanish Florida is very curious. They were trained as Spanish soldiers and taught to speak all European languages so that they did not need any white captain to negotiate with enemy captains.
This episode is everything i really strongly dislike about 2023 and Marvel, it even made me unsub from some youtube channels just because the virtue signaling by the creators and the fans alike are too much to bare....This episode had just about nothing to do with marvel, felt like they were just excited to show everyone how cultural they are.
