For me, the 143 wins easily. It's prettier with its famous gray sunray dial and brushed bezel. I also prefer the fact that it's a bit chunkier. The 4 holes on the clasp to adjust the bracelet are a big plus too.
@@maitrehg The longer clasp makes it look better. It’s weird because people wanted smaller and smaller watches, but the 143 is actually decent if not perfect for a diver.
@@KirbyYoung I prefer my tool watches with a nice presence on the wrist. I like to feel like my watch is there. My two favorites from my humble collection are my Planet Ocean and my MM300. My 143 is the smallest I have and I won't go any smaller than that.
@maitrehg I had spb143 before, and I saw this spb453 today on ad and no, not same watch beter on everyway..better finishing and dimension, bracelet feels much better🤌
I have the 143 with a brownish dial bought as an impulse buy from the Seiko boutique in London, thought I might regret it but it has become my most worn watch. found your channel whilst looking for info on a kakume , like your content 👍
SPB143 owner here and while I do prefer the 453 (I like the plain black dial, slightly smaller proportions and particularly the less wonky clasp), it's not enough to justify an upgrade. I love the date on a watch and the one on the 143 is easier to read. I just wish it had a slightly smaller case (39mm would have been fire) and no diver's extension.
Owned a 143 and sold it as i found it was to heavy and bulky and felt a bit big on the wrist. The 453 is much better imo, better bracelet, size and weighs less
Maybe mention the fact that you can get the 143 from Japan for 700 dollars, making the new one a bad deal with only minor changes. That said, the blue one, chefs kiss
@@KirbyYoungyou're comparing grey market prices. You can also get the SPB45x in Japan for considerably cheaper too on the grey market. The price in Japan is 25-30% lower than RRP in my country already. The RRP of the new one is only £50 more than the SPB14x so it's practically the same cost. The new ones will be similarly cheap on the grey market soon enough.
I understand that the 453 is kind of dull because the mat finish on the dial but have the 451 blue and its gorgeous much better looking than the 453. That is a direct comparison because the sunburst dial effect on the 451, finally the 451 is very legible.
The SPB143 and alike are far better than the new reintroduced 62mas. I’m a short guy with larger wrist size and I believe the previous models 2020-2023 are perfect for any size. 40.3 mm case size and 47.2 lug to lug is not large. They made them way too small and I hate the date window. It reminds me of the SPB313 slim turtle.
I have the SPB143 and wish it was just a little bigger so the fact that this is even smaller is a deal breaker for me. Nothing special here so I like my 143 better based on what you say here. Seiko has really not come out with anything very exciting in a while. I would love to see an SLA017 type watch come out in a 41-42 mm. I know that would not be in the spirit of the original 62 MAS diver but that would be the perfect size for me!
@@KirbyYoung Hey, thanks! I have an SLA055 and an SPB381, both at 42m. They are the perfect size for me and while I like my SPB143, I do find it a little small. It actually wears a little smaller than it's 40.5 size, in my opinion.
First of all I’m a huge sucker for symmetry and I love the direction Seiko is going with the complete 3 o’clock hour marker and 4.30 date in all their new releases. Looks so clean and the date isn’t obstructive at all + the bonus is a very cool looking fully symmetrical lume shot ! After observing Seiko for years, I just know they’re gonna milk these colour ways (black , blue and the guilt grey) and then release a few random colours and limited editions of this new SPB 62mas , earn good revenue . Then after a year or 2 they’ll release the coveted and iconic black bezel / anthracite sunray dial version of this watch like the SPB143 and earn even more revenue. I mean we can’t hate on that tbh , just good business strategy 🤷♂️
@@siddhant46s54 Yeah, I think Seiko overlooked the amount of attention the 143 would get when they released it. It is going to be an icon. Not a perfect watch, but a solid mid tier Seiko diver. Considering that I also have the spb317. I couldn’t see myself getting the 453 with some similar dial design
I am. Because i have the 143. And trying to justify not to sell. Haha but in all seriousness the grey dial is iconic imo. Otherwise the 453 is an excellent choice

The 453 in hand has far superior build quality
@@mikebertsch8747 no. Same Seiko mid tier quality. Just ok for the asking price.

I had the exact same experience..Went to pick up the 453 and left with a Bulova Super Seville green dial 37.5mm .. Still keeping my 143 as well.
@@flow2tech Yeah I really thought I’d like it the same way I did with the 143 when i first saw it (the only impulse buy i dont regret). Nice Bulova!
Spb143 is my preferred. 3 ocklock date and no 3 days, along with as you say the better dial.
I still have to buy 1 and 143 will be it😊. Thanks for sharing.

Sje093 or sla017 sub 40mm 62mas reissues
I really like the side profile and smaller bezel of new ones

143 gang here
I wear my SPB147 on the OEM bracelet 🔥🔥 And a SPB213!
I tried on the new blue dial and bezel version. I’m sold on this new model and would be my pick 👍🏻💯🇯🇵

How can i find these stores or sites in japan to purchase from?
Well some Japanese stores sell on chrono24. Some have a lot of positive reviews and seem to be reliable. I personally had a very pleasant experience.
I do like the 543 better simple and more handsome❤😊
I still like the 143 since it's the closest to the original 62mas design and is within reach for many collectors price wise.
143 is going to become collectible.
Nice trio! The snzg73? It is a stunner Seiko 5. It just has an orange ring but it makes the watch look complete.

It had a darker shade of blue. The closest thing I could compare it to was the Seiko Bluemo SBDC033.

search sbdc101 on chrono24 or ebay, there are a bunch.
143 dial is more attractive than the flat 453...

The 143 is so much better but I wouldn't have that either due to that ugly x ruining the dial. Plus they are both way overpriced.

It might be. When Seiko released the SPB143, they were still selling the SPB051, but now they don't.

453 is by far a better-looking watch. Deep black watches just look better, or Submariners would do it. I don't get the hype with the sunburst look.
Very generic gear
