I love when people show the real way gardening goes.
Love them radishes!!!
I am grateful for my winter break except I miss my greens. In the spring through hard frost, I can go out every day and pick fresh my greens. Those turnip greens had my mouth watering :))
I'm in Crystal River zone 9a/9b and the last day of winter was a hard freeze. Took out my tomatoes. I've started more. I cleaned up the garden and have a jump start on spring
Congrats on the radish and turnips. My spinach finally sprouted and my onions seem to be bouncing back from the cold.
It was -8 when I got up this morning. But I have lettuce and a tiny tim tomato growing under grow lights and that makes me happy. My nephew surprised me with a cattle panel so I'm excited to get that up. I'm not sure what I'm growing up it yet😅 Happy gardening😁
@@tinapayne2367 The options are endless🤗🤗
Not bad at all considering the weather you’ve had! We have 80’s all week here! 😳 But I know a cold snap will happen
We live in Houston also. Today is beautiful so getting the beds ready cause most plants died. But our large butterfly and hummer plants survived ❤
@@Lifeatthecornercastle 🤗🤗 Love it when plants make it through the freezes.
Nice to see the real garden tour, think fresh new beginnings and looking forward to your 2nd February garden tour, or like to see a progress video for step by step or say week by week of how your did it. I like to get more cucumbers 🥒 I’m not sure if I planted mine too close but didn’t get that good of an harvest last year.
Me either. I think it has something to do with the ph of the ground.
@@wendyburston3132I’m not sure but I love cucumber
Nice to see that most of your crops survived the freeze! I don’t know what’s going on with my garlic containers 😂. The garlic leaves are wilted and look dead! I am wondering if I will be getting a harvest? ❤🌱
Hey Devil Dog, i started using oyas for my raised beds a while back to help with watering. They really do a good job, you can also use pots and silicone the lids closed. Semper Fi
@@fmfdocbotl4358 Oyas??
@DownHomeBackyardGardening terracotta pots with a cork that you bury in the soil. when the soil needs water the pot sweats water. I been using them and making mine with pots for years
I'm in 8b, limited space and resources, and getting older. Lol. I'm going to stick to my basic foods I love to eat. Tomatoes, peppers, onions garlic, cucumbers, etc..just more of them. Composting. Your stuff looks better than mine but that's ok. Looking forward to gardening throu the season with you. My 1 seed challenge is a lemon tree. Best of all good to you. Prayerfully it will be a good year.
Nice, how that lemon tree grows lemons for you ❤🙏😊🇨🇦
@2feathers911 Praying we all have the best gardening year ever. 🤗💯
👍🏽🖐🏽send us some rain near Pearland 🙌🏽
Wow, nice radish!
I am so encouraged that you showed your weeds! After an injury that kept me out of the garden for 5 months, I am most excited about planting sugar snap peas. I missed that short window last year due to a different injury.
I am slowly refilling the soil level on my raised beds enough to plant, hauling only 1 potful of compost or dirt at a time ( still not allowed to lift anything heavy). My last frost date is March 10th, and like you, I am planting anyway. If I need to cover the gardens due to weather I will.
At this point I am doing direct sowing, and keeping my fingers crossed.
a frozen shoulder kept me from my garden for about 2 yrs because I couldn't lift my arm. I had surgery to repair (thanks VA) and now I'm getting buck wild in my whole yard. I don't hang out with people (ptsd) so my focus is growing things.
@@fmfdocbotl4358 Good for you for getting back to gardening! Just don't injure yourself, and remember, ice packs are our friends!
@@TW-gb6mh my body is a wreck from the military but gardening is my happy place. I've had a dozen surgeries on my body so far but I'll keep moving forward. Thank you
@TW-gb6mh be careful, and don't over do it. Praying for a full recovery for you. 🙏🙏
Keep those peas. They will come back. I am not far from you in Porter (now 9a) and it takesna while to get them going. Wait a few more weeks before thinking about removing them.
@@joaniemurdoch6627 Howdy neighbor, yeah... im leaving them for now.
Okra!
Zone 5 Ontario Canada here, completely covered in snow so can't show the garlic yet. But, love that radish bed of yours. Had my first daikon 🤔 s
pelling ahhhhh!!!! Radish the other day. So good! So got a big one and roasted with beef today! Wow. It's now one of my favorite veggies. ❤🙏😊🇨🇦
@@wendyburston3132 That sounds good🤗🤗
I am upping my pepper game this year. My goal for the year is to grow more of my staple foods.. especially when you see so many recalls on things like broccoli!
@@Cats_and_PlantsTX absolutely 💯
Of course I’m jealous your last frost date is a full 2 1/2 months earlier than mine, but we hit 70 degrees up here in Indy today. Wishing the middle of this month though the vortex is expected to remind us winter ain’t done by a long shot! Still waiting to hear you finally got a small worm bin of your own going so is it still on the back burner? You’ll be sorry if my worm bin and castings end up being what helps me win the #garlicchallenge2025 and #tomatochallenge2025 when I’ve been giving you hints all this time. Great video as always brother and I’ll be keeping my eye on you!
@@BigWillDogg82intheSoil 🤣🤣🤣 If your worms are what makes you win the challenges, then I think lots of people will have worm bins in no time. 💯💯
I just saw a man in my local grocery store, I promise you he could be your older brother, looks very, very much like you only about 10 to 12 years older. I thought it was you at first, had to take a second look.
@@2feathers911 🤣🤣🤣 Nope, no older brother anywhere that I know of🤣🤣🤣
Moth ball water?? Enlighten me on this.
He's got some videos about it last year.
@@benjaminhaynes3848 It helps deter squash vine borers.
I’ve been planting tomato plants , but my body says it’s gonna get cold again
The voles ate all my brassicas that I had covered up and the chickens got out and at most of the rest of them, that weren’t covered up
@@tambrasmith4199 I'm praying it doesn't freeze anymore down here.. going to be planting stuff this week.
