One HUGE con to me on the Soho disco is that they didn’t provide a leather loop for the extra portion that you’re not using on the strap and eventually, it starts to curl upwards.
Few months back i also debated which one to get between these two bags but in black. Gucci has always had my heart and eventually chose it. Because i know if i pick the YSL i would still want the Gucci. ☺️ I love the colors of these two bags!
Great review ! I have both bags and love them both , I have the Gucci Soho Disco in Red and the YSL in Black with the black hardware. I’ll never get rid of these , in my opinion , classic bags , and so happy I purchased them years ago as they both have gone up in price significantly. Both zippers of both of my bags are super easy , and my YSL has also domed up a bit on top but not as much as yours. To me the Gucci Soho Disco bag is more casual , and the YSL Lou Camera bag is more “dressy” , over all love both and will keep them forever ; I’ve had the Gucci for like 3 years and the YSL for like 2 years , both are still super clean and in pristine condition ❤️🖤. Keep them !!
I've tried on both, and being plus sized I found the crossbody drop on the YSL much better! Plus I liked that the YSL was a bit dressier. Thx for the comparison!
I have the YSL camera dark beige..wore it almost daily this summer..it is a versatile day to evening bag. It lays so beautifully against the body. The peaking top does not bother me for some reason, you get used to it..many bags have wonky aspects to them. Adore this YSL and I have several. Love the tassel added myself ❤️
Yeah…understandable it is annoying..one of the reasons I could not get on board with the Channel 19 bag, cause how the bag flap flops backwards with the heavy short chain..even with organizer. Everyone has their bag defect limits 😀 Love watching your videos.
I personally prefer the Gucci because the strap is a little wider and I find it more comfortable! That little bit makes a bit difference for me! And I know people complain the end sticks up, I use a little bit of fashion tape and it sticks down fine with no damage as of yet. I have honestly only used the YSL 2 or 3 times although the leather is lovely. Btw your silver Tiffany bracelet is lovely and sparkles like crazy!♥️♥️

Thanks so much for doing this, Melinda. They are both fantastic bags but I think I am leaning more towards the YSL now. The capacity seems to be just a little bit larger, enough for my ventolin puffer on top of the stuff you put in. It also could be dressed up and down whereas I feel the Soho is strictly casual. You have been really helpful in making my decision. I love the Gucci Marmont Camera bag too but I can’t believe how much they cost now. In Australia they have gone up $1000 in the past year so they are now way more than the YSL.
Got my YSL camera bag last fall. Great bag for trips…used it in Vegas too!😊It does poke up but I think it does that because how it sits against the body. Still love it - Gucci Marmont camera bag did the same.
I have my way of preventing/reversing the peaking on the YSL camera bag. What you do is bend the 2 strips on each side of the zip in towards the inside of the bag, keep doing it all the way towards the corners of the bag. Massage it that way whenever possible and when unzipping the bag, push the zipper down towards the inside of the bag every time you open and close it. In other words, don't pull the zipper upwards, but push it down whenever you slide it.

I think the zip on my Gucci Soho Disco is a slightly easier than yours, however since I mostly use it for travel and on public transport I consider it a pro rather than a con. You're going to feel if someone is tugging on that tassel!! I actually keep hold of the tassel if I'm in a really crowded train. The distorted top on the YSL would be a deal breaker for me and it's actually put me off from buying the bag. You are so right about storing the Disco correctly, I do the same and i've had zero issues with it. It's a fabulous bag❤

Yes, the YSL is a cooler toned beige and the Gucci is a warmer, richer beige. I can see the value in keeping both so that you can have a functional, carefree bag for a wider range of outfits.
Great videos on pros and cons on both Gucci and YSL. 15:51 So happy I kept my Disco. For a smoother zipper use a Qtip with a little Vaseline on the zipper. Funny my Gucci Disco has a smooth zipper and my YSL has such a stiff zipper ( I had to return it twice ) for that reason. Great comparison 😊

I have the Gucci bag in black, and it is my go everywhere bag. I do not own a nude bag, because I think color transfer and dirt would show too much for me. I am not opposed to cleaning a nude bag with leather cleaner if it wouldn’t make the leather look worse. If anyone sees my comment, how do you keep your nude bags looking nude?
I had this one for 3 years before they exchanged it and never had any issues with color. The one thing to avoid is dark denim, or dark clothes. If you are unsure you can take a white cloth and rub the clothes, if no color comes off on the cloth you're good to go!

They both do the same thing (poke up) I think it’s how they are being manufactured. I also have the GG Disco Bag. I Love them all they are so comfortable to wear. The Lou top poking up makes me crazy too! I have it in black and since day one it has done it! I think it is a design flaw in how they stitched the top to the front of the bag, and how they attach the lining, thats my thought anyway.... maddening!
Have you noticed when the lou is unzipped, the leather piece attached to the zipper wants to stand up straight? Bah!! That said the bag just has something striking about it, the chevron with the logo, just beautiful. Most “normal” women that aren’t bag crazy like me never notice the top poking up. I still love mine, I decided to try to look past the zip (but it does creep into my brain 🤣) and just enjoy how easy it is to wear, how striking it is, and how much it holds.
I attached the tassel on my Lou camera bag to the hardware under the strap so it’s stationary. Mine also has the puckering at the top, but not too bad. I was actually in the Coach boutique yesterday and they mentioned they use beeswax on all their zippers. I found that interesting bc my coach bag zippers are always smoother than my luxury bag zippers. I may try the beeswax on my new Givenchy moon cut out bag bc the zipper gets stuck a lot. I like the soho disco, in that beige. Nice year round color.
That is a good idea for the strap. Coach uses good zippers. I have a wax pen for zippers I bought on Amazon I am going to try that and see if it helps.
I had a Michael Kors jet set crossbody bag, similar shape to these, and the strap broke off! So now I’m debating between these two bags. My one question is, can both go out if it’s a rainy day? Great video!!
Thanks! In general I don't carry leather bags when it rains but I think these both would be ok with a few sprinkles. Probably the YSL would do a little better because of the type of leather.
Love both bags also but I did recently purchase the YSL camera bag. Haven’t received it yet but now I’ll have to wonder about the lump at the zipper. I have a coach camera and it sits flat like the Gucci one so we’ll see how I feel about that.

Dear Melinda, I am trying to chose my next daily bag, and I’ve shortlisted the YSL camera bag and the LV Odeon PM. I really value your opinion, so I’m curious which one would you chose please?
I have both bags and love them both equally. However the tassel on the Gucci is a little loud when walking at a normal pace. I find I just have to hold it down while walking, which is a little annoying.

That is true! You really would feel someone pull that tassel. The warped top makes me crazy on the YSL.
