I have Blake and Lamb double long springs in #2, #3, #4, also Oneida Victors in #2, #3, Bridger in #5, and Sleepy Creek in #11, #3, and #4 1/2 all in dozens or more. I love double long springs more than any other type of trap. I have plenty of the other types like jumps, coils, body grip, DPs, that I use, but I will use a double long spring if I can. I also have a truck load of single long springs for muskrat, mink and coon in size 1 1/2. Sometimes I wonder if I have some kind of trap fetish because I love steel traps and have more than I could ever use, so I collect them too. I just wish I could have bought a dozen of the Sleepy Creek #2 double long springs before they went out of business because that still nags at me to this day. Great video, thanks for making it.
X2 on the #2 sleepies. Should have laid into about 36dozen of them while i could. Southern snaresand supply bought sleepy creek and all their stock and mfg equip. He plans to rwmake them again but going to offer cast jaw options too!
I recently bought some victor #3 double long springs that some guy modified. (baseplated, installed step down pit pans) my problem is that when I set them and bring the springs back to the dog side of the trap so the loose jaw can lay flat it doesn’t do that, it naturally wants to rotate the springs back to 3 and 9 o’clock. I thought it was the wax on it making the surface slippery but I recently boiled and removed all coatings and it’s still doing it. Any idea what’s going on here, all 4 traps I bought r doing it, ever see anything like that when modifiying traps? Thanks!
Like the content will be subscribing. But with that said, the offset is actually not so muvh for animal comfort as it is for holding power. It allows the kaws to close a little more which allows the springs to lock up higher on the jaws.. love longsrings tho. Currently looking for some #3 or #4s. Hard to find sleepy creek #3s at affordable price.
@@JeanPierre-Pete-Espil Not one of those traps is a leg hold... they are ALL foot hold traps. Leg hold is used by animal rights groups! Just a heads up! dave
I went homeless living in the wilderness for three years! I survived of these and a compound bow a good knife and a old military alice pack! My folks actually though I was deceased! I came back got a job and bought a farm!
Offset jaws also make for a stronger trap lockup by letting the levers or spring eyes ride up the jaws further, reducing leverage on the jaws. Simple physics.
Interesting ,from South Africa.
Didn't know steve-o trapped lol just messing around, thanks for being informative and casual and easy to listen to about the subject.
Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel. Looks good. May binge watch one of these nights.
Hope you find some wisdom in there somewhere lol.
I recently picked up an old victor #1 jump trap. It worked perfectly for a medium sized opossum.
Great video. Love them longsprings.

Funniest thing I ever heard. Another trapper on youtube stated very mater of factly that a person cannot catch canines with longsprings
I catch all my coyotes and everything else with longsprings.
