Almost every time on the Ford large sunroofs, it’s the plastic rail Ford uses that breaks parts of plastic off into the rail path. Sunroof Doctor has the parts and has a video. I did the same thing with not opening my sunroof for ever until I finally found those guys. The dealer wanted like 3K and it’s really a $150 set part.
on my 2016 f150 with the moonroof the biggest issue is the water that spills over the gutter system and runs right down the back pillar into the rocker panel, soaks the whole passenger side carpet. thank god they are aluminum bodies now. mine stays shut with the sunshade closed 99 percent of the time. just hate that overtime it rains hard i gotta go out and get the water out of the rocker area and shampoo my carpets to get the mildew smell out. what I'm saying is ill never have another moonroof unless ford changes the design. also yes i pulled my headliner down and made sure the drain tubes were clear and all four of them were completely clear its just a poor design I'm finding out. they look great and are nice when the weather is perfect to open up but the cons outweigh that two week gap of nice weather i get to actually use it haha.
I just got my tracks replaced I bought original Ford tracks $170 difficulties of replacing tracks 7.5 you must be mechanical inclined to job. I used dielectric grease on my moving components including rubber 👍🏻
So let me ask you a question I have a 2014 Lincoln MKX and it is stuck up front and will not open up Freon I think the seal will not let the class separate from front, what do you recommend
hey man, thanks for the video. I have a 2015 F150, so far I havent had problems with my moon roof except the fact that it never wants to open on the first try it will open but typically after 2-3 tries. I guess Ill order this grease, I really do not want anything to break with it. I know my dads truck has problems, he has a 2016 F150 that leaks and never wants to open, after it does it never wants to close. I definitely do not want that.
Hi thanks for the video, I wish I’ve know before. I took mine to the dealership the first time it happened and they said they lubricated and fixed it. The next thing I know it broke. Wouldn’t open all the way then wouldn’t close. The dealership told me $5,300.00 ok still looking around.
Why can they not just offer the trucks without a Dam hole in the roof? Looked for over a year, just gave up finding a Truck without 1. Have never opened mine yet, but have only owned it for a bit over 3 months.
Helpful video.. my 2015 f150 Platinum had moonroof issues. I just stopped opening it up about 2 years ago. Bout time to investigate again with your help.
What problems were you having? My 15 Lariat just sticks a ton, doesn’t want to open the first try. My dad has a 16 XLT that leaks, sticks and grinds when it opens. It also doesn’t want to close after it’s open, that might be more extreme but every truck review I’ve seen is different.
I have a 17 super duty and have never had a issue with it I’m nervous I’m ordering a 2022 f 350 super duty platinum with the moon roof and have heard issues with them exploding. On another note is there any way to get a discount plan on a new truck there’s no incentives right now , do u know of any way to get them ??? Thanks in advance !! On a side note my truck s Lives in a garage maybe that why i have never had a issue with my sun roof
Bruh, sit in your truck and have someone spray a water hose onto the moonroof while it’s obviously closed completely and then tell me how much water comes in and onto the water tracks and down the drain tubes. Lemme know if you have some coming in.
The only way to prevent these open roof problems is to not get one in the first place. I like having an open roof on my vehicles, but I no longer get them, mainly because they add a lot of weight, which is bad if payload capacity is a priority for you. Plus that weight is up high, which negatively impacts handling. The other reason I don;t get them is because they often break, which is a headache I don't want to deal with. Also, not getting a sunroof will save you money on the truck!

Ford updated the rails and sell them $145 retail price. My expedition 2018 sunroof also broke so I’m heading the dealer now for the parts.
I had two vehicles with moon roofs, both had issues. I’ll never buy a vehicle with a hole in the roof again.
Best way is to always tilt sunroof open before every sliding back. LOL it took me many years to figure out.

What's the TSB number?
Another reason I’ve had a 2015 & 2019 with no moonroof. Also why I wouldn’t buy a limited even if $$ wasn’t an issue.
I heard bad news about the Moonroofs before i bought my 2017 F150. Got mine without that option. Looks great though .

Great details thank you sir! Continue to share awesome useful content.

What type of grease did you use?
Not sure why both Ford & Ram think everyone wants one. Oversized & overpriced & gives less headroom at least in the Ford.
Have a link to that TSB by chance?
No. I was logged in.
@@DS-TRUCKS what site do you need to go to for that?

Being perfect inside is probably why you haven't had any issues.
Good video DS
This is because the dealers only have shadetree mechanics doing the work !!
I just never open mine

💀
Lol I got a kick out of this but sadly am having my moon roof on my 2019f250 leak and looking for anything that may help me see the issue

The best solution to prevent leaks is to leave it in garage on rainy days🤣
