What i find odd is that they aren't considering how some people or in this case pony might be named after someone else so you still don't actually know how long its been
You forget that most of G5 doesn't happen in main Equestria. The 3 Pony cities are placed next to the Dragon island which in the old G4 map would make them somewhere in the lower right corner of the map sorrounded by a bubble. That area was never explored in G4 since it was mostly swamps and forests
In My Little pony Friendship is magic season 10 comic books it was confirmed that unicorns can easily live for at least 90-180 years. it was a story about Twilight trying to help Moondancer find out about her family's past. Moondancer's family holds the record for the oldest living pony 400 years. and they also confirmed the foal giving age which is 50-100 years. about 500 years ago is the right answer
Wait I think there was actually 2 times pony tripes were seperated. In comic it shows Opaline hurting Fluttershy because she wouldn't wait for her turn. Then there were Chaos. But Twilight reunite ponies by making the crystals with her friends. Then there were peace. Og was still in ponyville and old Equestria. (In the new generation movie, er der a poster showing united ponies in bridlewood. Meaning that was after they build up Maretime bay, Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood. Also Elderflower mentions Dawn, which could be Luster Dawn. Izzy says that many moons ago the magic just disappeared. Argyle said it was 10 generations Ago. That means that after Twilight reunite ponies by making the crystals there have been peace, the old Equestria and ponyville tur ned into Maretime Bay, Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood (Maybe in Twilight's rule time or Maybe in Luster Dawn's). Then the 3 for seperated again and the magic disappears and crystals are seperated.
From what I've seen in the show a "Moon" is equal to 1 year as Twilight reads in the first episode that "Legend has it that on the longest day on the thousandth year the stars will aid in her escape..." while reading about The mare in the moon. We already know that Luna was there for a thousand "Moons" and we also get that she was there for a thousand years so the two have to be the same length
G5 retconned it a bit. Izzy now refers to the Briddle Wood olympic reference game that Hitch and Sparky participated as happening every 4 "purple moons" so purple moon would be a real indication of a ful year while a moon could be anything from a week to month to a season
If so, then it turns out, according to your logic, the portal to the world of colored people opens once every 30 years. THIS IS NONSENSE!. The moon in Equestria means a month, not a year. And in the original source it was said not about 1000 years, but about a much longer time.
@@MrConredsXits possible that it’s meant to be a reference to something such as the winter Olympics in our world which happen every 4 winters. Perhaps instead of just years, perhaps a purple moon is related to a type of session.
My friends and I did the math, and based on the ideas that have been presented to us (that ponies in G4 age at nearly the same rate that people do, and given the chance, live as long as the average human too.), we calculated that an average pony can live to be 80-100 years old, and on average each generation has offspring in their early to mid 20s. I counted 4 greats that Elderflower rattled off... so we are looking at 80 to 100 years. This is considering that Moondancer was revealed to be around the same age as Twilight at the beginning of G4, as she was one of Twilight's peers in school. This also makes her the same age as Twilight's friends, who were still around (according to the comics) to see everything break down. Twilight's reign didn't even outlast her friends lifespans... so with Moondancer being in the same generation, she probably not only saw the downfall, but after things calmed down, likely talked a lot about the paradise that Equestria used to be. If we calculate that elderflower is in her 60's or 70's, it is likely that she was a philly who could listen to Moondancer's stories for at least a small number of years before she passed away. This also means that Moondancer probally lived in Bridalwood at or near the end of her life.
those calculations are a but off since in the light cannon season 10 comics they actually talk about the ages the average foal giving age is like 50-100 but can vary largely unicorns can live up to 180 years and the oldest is actually in moondancers family around 400 or so it could be minimum of 300 years or so to like almost 800
I thought it would be 500-1000 years but after watching this it only begs the questions if any of the princesses are still alive I mean Luna and Celestia still looked young in G4 since they didn’t have bags under their eyes which usually gives it away nor did they sound old too. The only explanation is that Opaline killed them all or they are living in exile. The same goes with Twilight, Cadence, and Flurry who are probably still alive as Opaline keeps mentioning her. I mean who knows…
There is no doubt every alicorn and dragon from G4 should still be alive along with Discord. Mane5 however have no chance of outliving 4 generations unless there are shenanigans like with Pillars of Equestria
@jamesolszewski3782 In physical state they didn't look or sound like they we're in their 60s, because nearly every character at the end of the FIM series had bags under their eyes which usually happens until someone is approaching middle age. Idk they live for eternal lives, so they can probably just stay that way unless they gave up their wings to live a normal life.
@@lunarneo757Discord is depressed and when he listens to Fluttershy record message we see her cuddling him as we not sure if she is actually ghost of imagination of Discord but yes they did die
There's also the abandoned airship station in the Zephyr Heights royal palace, which looked like it couldn't have been out of commission for much more than a couple centuries - the Wonderbolts poster showed no sign of the ink fading. Plus the comic showed the Canterlot donut shop with intact donuts, which probably wouldn't last for the 1000+ years that many fans assumed to have passed.
It says it been left abandoned century ago according in comic so it likely they kept maintaining city even if Equestria is falling apart until they decide to abandon and left forget in century prior to present time
@@emanuelhernandez4519 if it was a billion years, that wouldn’t make sense, considering how technology has advanced but not a whole bunch after G4. Still, should’ve been after Twilight’s rule and death at least.
After watching chapter 6, Elderflowers tale, Legend of the guardians, real story about Opalines 1. attempt to get her dirty hoofs on pony and dragon magic and her little backstory, I have this theory about how everything went down : Before FIM s1 -Opaline was schoolmate with Luna and Celestia, they were the most popular foals in school and ignored her out of arrogance so she got bad (knowing them they probably didn't want to be friends with her because she was petty, short-tempered jerk) -From some reason, Celestia and Luna leave Skyros for some reason After FIM s9 -At some point Twilight discovers the Unity Crystals and their properties, becoming too fixated on them. -At some point, Starlight, probably, discovers Starlight Ridge and the place becomes popular resort. -Opaline does something bad in Skyros so she's kicked out. -Opaline arrives in Equestria and keeps causing trouble. -Twilight and her friends foil her 1. attack but she keeps escaping and trying again and again and again, her schemes getting better and better and more harmfull for Equestria. -Opaline at some point during the war learns and starts to steal cutie marks -After many failed attempts, Opaline seizes Firehearth Scepter (how I remember it was called), destroys it and sucks up its power, gaining ability to control dragons (part of a reason Spike's the DL now), brainwashing them, forcing them to turn on ponies, using their power to fuel her magic. -She conquers Equestria, for a few months -Seeing that Opaline will never stop and left with no other options to secure Equestrias future, Twilight and Luster (by then probably alicorn) make a final desparate attempt to stop Opalines reign of terror. -Unity Chrystals are used, stripping Opaline of her power and ensuring that nocreature would ever be able to steal pony magic without gaining the crystals. -Powerless Opaline menages to escape, thus barrier is enacted to keep her from finding the Crystals or dragons and causing anymore harm to poniekind . - Dragons go into hibernation so Opaline wouldn't find any to empower Dragonstone if she ever finds it. - Mane Six split up along with the crystals to keep 'em divided and harder to find. -Starlight, Sunburst and Trixie are tasked with hiding the relics to keep them from Opaline and other evil creatures. They do so with the most but keep the Special star. -Celestia and Luna decide to return to their homeland. -Applejack and Pinkie lead earth ponies to Marinetime Bay. -Rainbow and Fluttershy lead pegasi to Zephyr Heights -Most of the unicorns go to Bridlewood with Rarity, but some settle with Starlight, Sunburst and Trixie in Starlight Ridge. -Twilight settles with her family in Crystal Empire. -Over time, unicorns living at Starlight bridge evolve into aroricorns due to locations unique magical energies and develop their own magic separete form the unicorns.
And the story about Luster Dawn. My theory after that episode was that Luster Dawn was Twilight's second. So when she had to go on royal duties, Luster Dawn took over the Kingdom. Opaline was able to spread chaos because against the pony races when Twilight wasn't there to stop her from the jump! My theory is that Sunny's dad is a decendant of Twilight if you look at his cutie mark and the mark is on Sunny's bag!
Argyle explicitly said "ANCIENT" Equestria (aka 1500+ years), not "Equestria of my grandma's grandma". Newspony mentioned thousands of moons during unicorn games. Even ruins turned to dust, if you consider that pink tree from ANG as a Tree(house) of Harmony. Argyle said "10 generations since that blanket was made" in TYT episode. There's plenty of various indications, but why are you so obsessed with that old mare? It's clearly been established that you need to decrypt the stuff the says instead of taking it as a face value.
True. Besides, writers frequently make logical mistakes due to numerical miscalculations. It’s just fun to speculate an approximate timeframe with her anecdote, but it very well be much longer
If 1500 years have really passed there, then you have a question: Why are the ruins of Canterlot preserved, and they look as if only 100-300 years have passed and even some things have been preserved (fabrics and moldy food) and it is not necessary to write everything off to the fact that the Discord was holding everything up. He didn't have magic either. Everything is simpler here. Hasbro didn't think about the time frame, so everyone is right for themselves. One thinks 10,000 years have passed, you think 1500 years have passed, and I think 300 years have passed. Believe me, this time is quite enough for history.
@@Dan250simple Hollywood time That only logic Hollywood aren't exactly keeping in check of reality Because of this we name some of tropes after Hollywood Like how do booty traps still working in temple that been left untouched for thousand year
@@Dan250 Castle Mane-ia, though. The Castle of the Two Sisters had all kinds of things well preserved, and we know for a fact that it had been abandoned since the loss of one of the two titular sisters.
Twilight is a better friend than a ruler, to be a politician you should know how to play both sides of the coin and unfortunately Twilight was too good at heart for that, probably her friends died and she didn't know what to do without them, Twilight just can't cope without them we saw her fail multiple times in the show because she had no friends so yes I can believe that she couldn't hold peace alone, and Luster Dawn wasn't in a good position to be the new ruler because she wasn't the princess of friendship.
Makes so much sense, I don’t think Luster even had a chance, guess Opaline was supposed to rule along Twilight as a helper as she states she worked with her in Chapter 3, but probably overthrew Twilight by collecting enough dragon fire, and attempted to steal all pony magic. Still what the heck happened to Twilight if it’s been less than 500 years. I still feel bad for Twilight her reign was very short, but she probably had no idea how to work alone like Celestia who had to banish her sister for 1k years, and had to get use to all her friends dying over that same period. Probably the only friendship lesson Twilight missed.
@@lunarneo757 another thing, Celestia delegated the task of saving Equestria to others, I don't think Twilight could help helping and thus Equestria's other tasks were left unattended so the government fell apart, it's one of those things that some people are good at and some people aren't.
@@maxstroberger5404 There we’re a lot of flaws that Twilight had as the ruler of Equestria, no political experience besides being a good negotiator she probably had no economic, or government experience. Military wise no, I don’t think she made any reforms to the guards besides allowing other creatures to join, because the guards don’t look like they changed probably because they were in a period of peace. That was Celstias big mistake, she should have let Twilight get political lessons before becoming a ruler. The council of friendship had barely any experience as well with the exception of Applejack who runs the apple farm so she probably has to learn about profit, and economics. Rainbow as a Wonderbolt probably has military experience as the Wonderbolts are a parody on the Blue Angels who are a class of elite fighters, and the Wonderbolts have been seen in big fights like in the series finale. Still though Twilight should have at least worked close with ponies that at least had a good amount of experience instead of relying on inexperienced friends, sounds pretty harsh but it’s the truth.
I highly doubt Twilight's regin was that short lived. Afterall, Argyle did say that he studied "Ancient Equestria" which insinuates about a thousand years or so. Also Gen 5 has a way of breaking G4s canon a lot of the time or trying to tie the two together with very sloppy writing. I doubt the people who worked on G4s story would agree that it was THAT short of a timespan between both stories.
I honestly feel bad if the timespan between generation 4 and 5 is only just barely 200 years because it would reflect Twilight Sparkle as a terrible ruler. After all, Celestia kept the pony races together for over 1000 years, in which Luna was banished to the moon for 1000 years. Not to mention that Twilight and her friends saved Equestria multiple times, while also making it better by making new alliances and friendships with other creatures and making a school to keep teaching lessons about friendship. Even when Tirek, Crysalis, and Cozy Glow tore such alliances apart and very nearly brought Equestria to ruin, Twilight and everyone she has connected to through friendship were able to overcome it and Twilight prove herself to be a possible good ruler for Equestria, only for generation 5 to ruin that legacy. The fact that Opaline was able to succeed where Tirek, Crysalis, and Cozy Glow failed to do together was bad enough, but for Twilight's tenure as ruler and all the good she and her friends did to be undone within less than a century is just sad. This is definitely one of the drawbacks of generation 5 that I honestly hope gets fixed as the story progresses because I am a fan of generation 4 and I want generation 5 to live up to that legacy, not ruin it.
I guess Twilight was right all along. She really wasn't prepared for this. Not only did Equestria fall in less than 100yrs so to did all pony races face the brink of extinction as Griffons, changeling all other sentient races did get wiped out. With only 4 dragons so far. GOOD JOB, Princess Twiggly Wiggly. /)_-
After watching this vid I’ve now made it my head canon that after her friends died of old age twilight when into such a break down grief that it spiralled out of control making her a bad leader it the only thing that would make sense for me as after everything the crew went through just for 200 year of twi rule it crazy insulting, it happened to discord with his heart breaking grief in the comic
I actually think that between G4 and G5 there was something like Fallout: Equestria. And also, Elder Flower said "great-great-great-great-aunt Moondancer," but what if she meant just some indefinitely long timespan? It may be either 200, or 400, or even more years after Twilight's coronation.
I think that the Moondancer they refered to was the G1 version of her. Izzy mentioned her aunt Buttons (a G1 ponies) two times, so other unicorns refering to G1 ponies as there ancestors is just an easter egg. But still, great theory!! Keep up the good work.
I will potietically argue that Moondancer is probably a common name amoungst ponies (if the trading cards and comics are anything to go by). Even if she was related to g4 Moondancer, I would think she's further down the line than the Moondancer she's referencing. In short, you can't make me believe that Twilight's reign didn't last a could hundred years. (Celestia got a thousand years of peace under her rule, give Twilight at least 700 in my book). But that's just my opinion.
5:10 It's sad but it wasn't for nothing. Twilight didn't fail, all her work inspired Sunny who unite the ponies once again. It's like she said. "There'll always be darkness in the world, but there'll always be those who find the light."
If you are a statesman, your primary concern ought to be preventing state collapse and the attendant social collapse and degradation of the general welfare, not maybe inspiring a prophet some generations down the line.
@@zimmerwald1915 But Twilight did prevent "State collapse" by protecting her home time and time again. Though between you and me I'm not completely convince this is canon to G4. Maybe a parallel universe or something.
theres some lore he missed unicorns live like 200 years on average and moondancers family can live up to 400 along with the foal age actually being closer to 100 putting 500 years as like a minimum and 2000 as a possibility

Can we really be that surprised though, when it didn’t even take a day for Chrysalis to destroy the unity between the tribes near the end of g4? Let’s face it- there was always a deeply rooted racism between the pony tribes that stemmed long before Twilight’s existence. And given the fact that there is separation in literally every other Gen of MLP’s own franchise- it will never truly be eliminated
The difference is that the characters during the season nine finale made an effort to remind everyone about unity. It could’ve been handled better in that finale of course in how they turned against each other, but what matters is that they managed to overcome it by teaching a lesson about accepting each other’s differences. Unlike in G5 where Twilight decided to pull a Starlight season five move of making everyone the same. Twilight showed Starlight that it’s better if everypony were unequal in prosperity than equal in misery. Only for Twilight to do a one eighty, all because they were too lazy to stop a single Alicorn when they’ve managed to defeat three powerful enemies all at once. Like I mentioned, the citizens of Equestria have been dumb before, but now they made The Mane Six and Spike look just as dumb, purely so we can make Sunny and her friends look superior to Twilight and the rest, instead of making their new cast stand on their own.
I personally have no issue regarding G5 being in the same universe/continuity as G4 just at a later point in time, especially since it allows us to explore the world more and lore. But from a worldbuilding perspective, the time difference is far, far too short for it to come across as realistic or viable. MINIMUM 500 years would have sufficed. Especially since with the way Sunny talks about Twilight and her friends, it makes it sound like mythology / legend, which would take hundreds of years. Even disregarding the fact that G5 makes Twilight's reign pointless, it makes the fact she's an alicorn pointless too. Alicorns are immortal or atleast extremely long living, Celestia and Luna easily lived for minimum 2000 years. If we assume Twilight was 25 when became an alicorn, and if this timeframe between G4/5 is correct, then she'd have been maximum 300 years old by the time she disappeared. Yet we know from G4 that extensively powerful Unicorns could live long lives like Star Scroll The Bearded. Many speculate G5's locations takes place on the South-East of Equestria, it fits the locations shown in G5 perfectly according to all the maps,
MY THEORY: Twilight probably gave up on the world when her friends died which made all creatures and all tribes to fall apart. She probably felt so alone and so lost that she made Luster Dawn an Alicorn (confirmed in the bat story) to deal with everything while Twilight was busy healing and grieving. And I think seeing Equestria crumble probably made her.. end it all. I know its sad and dark but hey thats life.
You also have to take into account the average life span of a pony. For instance, Granny Smith was a young adult when ponyville was founded and still alive after it was established wayyyy later, and the cutie mark crusaders barely aged from the years between when twilight was sent to ponyville and crowned ruler of equestria, and still only seemed to be young adults after the huge time jump in the last episode. The calculations should be a lot more when taking into account the unreasonably long lifespans of the ponies
since the rest of twilights friends are mortal, the spells protecting equestria cast by the elements of harmony would all fail, the everfree would expand and the stoned villains would be free ! In order to give the friendship trees the power they need to continue to protect pony kind, you'd need to infuse new artifacts with lots of pony magic, and i think twilight used alot of her magic to make new crystals to protect everything and got sent to a limbo like starswirl and the pillars had done to themselves everything crumbles so fast because her friends only live for one out of five lifetimes that it's been since then and twiley does something dramatic to save the dayss
As Sunny put it in her version of how the ponies got separated, 'an Earth Pony got hurt by a Unicorn'. Which could be a family/foal friendly way of saying that Applejack or Pinkie Pie may not have passed naturally. Judging from how things started to strain in the first half of Magical Mystery Cure, Pinkie is more likely.
@@karlthorkildson4650 Yeah for sure !! take that version with salt tho bc they do say it's their theory not facts, there could've been no pony on pony war too ! i think it would be coolest if; since the stone spells would eventually fade, Chrissy Tirek Cozy would excape and recruit more to their villian team and free opaline from Dawns spider Web;
@@mayowhishes People seem to get something backwards- the bubble/web is over Equestria, not where Opaline's castle is. Look at Misty's version of the G5 origin story and listen harder to the bat story.
This should be revisited with the Tell your Tale episode regarding Zipp looking through the book of all the previous Pegasus queens. If nothing else, it'd be hilarious to come up with a conspiracy about the violent and bloody history of the Zephyr Heights Crown, lol
Well, G5 isn't canon anyway. I mean, they can't even keep continuity between their series, so it doesn't really matter what they have to say about G4 at this point.
Yup i am in the same boat! Its not canon. The original writers and studio are not involved and by the looks of it other then teiloght making a 20 second hologram cameo and some weird spike wanabe dragon it has nothing to do with g4.
Still think it would have made more sense if Queen Opaline wasn't around when Celestia and Luna were kids. Mainly since... Where are THEY? If Opaline is still around and young, then the two sisters should be too in G5. With her fire immunity and color palette I would have thought "Oh hey, she has purple coat and immune to fire. Seemingly has a GREED for power, with a ego to match. She must be a child of Spike and Rarity.." Heck her name is even similar to Rarity's CAT, both Opaline and Opalescence can be shorted to Opal and relate to that gem. Rarity would treat her kid as a queen, filling her head with a power filled ego, etc.
In google search Celestia was 10,000 years old. And are we to expect that Discord is no longer around someone who is immortal? and what happened to the wendigos, whenever there is hate or mistrust against the 3 pony's tribes, there is always this story about a winter that never leaves, everyone was froze, so how is that possible and even in the gen 5 movie, all these ponies hating on each other, how come they were cover in snow.
Given what we've seen, the My Little Pony franchise hasn't been able to break even since the FiM series finale. So instead of creating the G5 we know, Hasbro would've been better off either letting G4 keep going (a Lady the Simpsons or SpongeBob), or just rebooting it.
One thing I think can help a little more on why celestia's rain was much longer then twilights is because she only had her my little peonies to deal with. While twilight did not just have ponies but also all the other races as well. They only mention on what separated the ponies but not the other species.
What makes it worse is that Oplolin is a garbage villain and the writers do not care about there own story let alone what come before honestly let’s just say this is an alternative timeline and not the main one
Cantersoft said it in his own video that it's likely between 1,000 to 5,000 years, which makes much more Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it would've been better if Twilight's fall was a deconstruction of the finale's "happy ending", where her rule crumbles partially because outlives her friends, (because curse of immortality) and Opaline's invasion is the final nail in the coffin" If anything, the biggest plot hole is that it turns out G4 is a book, so how would you explain this generation's existence?
They established in the G5 comics that Equestria fell right after the ending of G4, as evidence by Twilight’s friends still being around and Pinkie’s son Lil Cheese looking the exact age as in The Last Problem
Nah mlp g4 ended. Whatever they do now can be classified as something like dragon ball gt aka if you want it to be canon you can but its really not. We should not think that g4 is ruined because of another series. For example i love avatar but hate kora. I still love watching avatar even though the sequel is bad but i wont let that ruin my fun.
While this short of a timeline for such a fall to happen is quite sad, I don't find it surprising at all. There is evidence in both G4 and G5 that the ponies in that universe tend to be very dramatic and irrational at the most pointless times. Even the most logical ones, such as Twilight or Zipp, tend to have unexpected outbursts and episodes of insanity on occasion. The ponies also have a habit of drawing conclusions prematurely before fully analyzing the details or finding any proof. Some of the other creatures in the G4/G5 universe are known for these habits, too. In the last season of G4, the 'terror trio' took advantage of these habits and nearly divided everyone simply by running around and stirring up rumors. In the G5 comics, we see that a 'mystery pony' (presumably Opaline) tried out similar tactics but was a lot more successful, apparently.
Exactly, G5 taking place around 200 years after G4 makes sense given how easily ponies become divided, which means Opaline causing a civil war within a few decades after G4 is not really a surprise.
@@99ZondaS but then there’s the strange Aleutian of all the creatures, except for the ponies that took place. Mainly from the little creatures. It makes no sense. Sure maybe Discord had a small hand and maybe causing a little bit of discordy happenings to occur to some creatures, but for bunnies and rabbits and puppies to become a fusion like an avatar the last Airbender, it’s just weird. There is no indication of a cloud puff like species in G4, nor bunnies with horns, so for it to be 200 to 300 years just doesn’t add up.
That would mean the ponies who literally stood up to the evil 3 got fooled by the same tactic like 20 years later. It makes no sense and is literally bad writing. G5 already has many problems when it comes to linking it to g4 but trying to make the cast of fim look pathetic just sealed its fate and almost no one likes it for that reason alone. To be honest g5 comes of as bad fanfiction where opaline is a bad edgy oc with a tragic backstory (she already looks like one XD) who managed to beat the g4 cast. Its.....dumb
75 at minimum years of peace is a waste of time? no, all things considered, that's pretty great. celestia's 1000 year rule was likely far from great considering how much further technology has come without her than under her. rather than 1000 years of harmony, it seems more like stagnation. twilight brought great progress to equestria but progress comes with risk. opaline was that risk. after so much time without danger, they likely became complacent. and as her friends died, twilight's rule likely became less stable and harmonious until she could no longer keep control of vast swathes of equestria. and of course it all went downhill from there. but judging a ruler based on the last few years instead of the initial 100 or more is silly. just because in the end she failed doesn't mean everything before counted for nothing. plus, it seems she had a plan in case she failed with the message sunny and her friends saw in the crystals back in chapter 2.
I am hating gen 5 so far. I am trying to understand but it's confusing the timeline makes no sense. But how can Opaline have known Luna and Celestia as foals. when that would mean she's a lot older than they claim because like I said looking things up. Luna and Celestia 9,000 years old and 10,000 years old, between the two sisters alone, something just doesn't make sense at all.
Early to late 60tys? Seriously? People don't typically go that grey until they are in their 70tys to their 80tys. I want to think it took more time between G4 and G5 because otherwise, we are talking cataclysmic collapse under Twilight.
I think atleast 900-2000 years ago, as spike previously stated in g5 that he was the dragon leader for centuries, dragons live for centuries I think he was atleast 1000 years old twilight did not outlive her friends as Lauren Faust confirmed, she maybe died at 100 years old so that’s why I think it’s maybe 1000 years or more, tell me if I said anything wrong
Seems the count of one generation of 15 to 30 years seems too short to me. This is human time scale. I remember Granny Smith being well, and in good health, definitely over a century. All indications in the show are she is not an outlier. Ponies like her as common as 70 years old humans today. Guessing here that 30 to 50 years is a real generation. My back of the napkin math shows a minimum more like 375 years. Admittedly a lot of unjustified assumptions.
You forgot about one thing, when we see twilight in g5 story, she is still young even the background story about the past events twilight is still young also when spike show up in the story again he his not buff like the ending of Gen 4 shows spike as buff dragon, yeah I know that redesign is a thing then why does twilight is not old in the hologram or the flashback which I believe that they retcon the fewer event of gen4 story to make gen5 and gen4 connects or having Gen 5 in alternate timeline which twilight does not rule for long, that's why she is young and that's why spike is not buff dragon because when the ruin hit the only allied by the ponies is the dragons in this timeline.
I don’t take the cannon of the show too seriously, there’s things in the main serious I cannot forgive but I still love mlp, I just kinda make up my own cannon and enjoy the show for what it is
you know at least when Beast Wars was made, the writers kept details ambiguous as to how far in the future that show was from G1 Transformers, later it got confirmed to be at least 300yrs in the future. doing this allowed the show to stand on its own but also have enough room to leave things open to what happened between shows and any connections made to G1 and or the comics was minimal hell Beast Wars even has their own take on the moondancer relatives joke with how Rattrap mentioned that Arcee from G1 was his Great Aunt, at first it was just a joke, but got incorporated into the lore and it didn't break the story. i think this was the writers intention as well, just make a joke about G4's moondancer having a relative, but in doing so it neglected to account for what this implies and like you said the timeline now shows that Twilight's rule and struggles in G4 were meaningless this just further enforces the idea that G5 should have been it's own series
Such a typical thing for writers these days to do.🤦♀️ tear down the beloved older characters to make the new characters story work or to make them look good. Star Wars is a great example of this. 😞😒 I was afraid this was going to happen when they announced that G5 was going to take place in the future of the G4 universe.
@InYourDreamsLOL there's a difference between a headcanon and what people agree on what media is canon to something. G5 is canon to g4 but ponylife isn't
This is really too far fetched to be real since we've already seen versions of G4 ponies from the previous three Gen so the same thing can be said for G5 here
No it can’t. Because it’s obviously confirmed that G5 is a continuation of G4, unlike generations 1-4 where they were all separate continuity’s from one another, aside from some characters and elements here and there but like I mentioned were separate versions.
Wow. That is absolutely depressing. Honestly, the only way I can see this working, is it Twilight fell into some sort of major depression after all of her friends passed away. Then maybe Discord got a little crazy and having the original Elements of Harmony gone would create provlems too. I get there's the whole "Student Six" but they will never be able to replace what the other five ponies have done.
This begs the question of how all the magic in equestria fell apart why dod spine become dragon lord so quickly? When did twilight send him and all dragons to sleep and make the stones? Why make the stones. Is the stones purpose instead of giving magic actially just a lock over the magic keeping it from being accessed? Also how the hell did oplene get any kind of lea way with this or beat twilight to need any of this. Her and her freinds have beaten far more dangerous foes then opolene and in fact her only magic she has is controling trees, stealing cutie marks, and lazer blasts, and i guess anti magic bubbles? But its clear the elements still exist and easily overpower so how did twilight not accomplish this? There are so many questions and every answer they try to give only makes 6 more even dumber questions that make the answers more and more dumb
My guess is like 25 to 75 moons mean years. Or maybe 100 but seems to many because in last episode they had some gray hair on main cast and side cast pony. And do they be like 55 to 65. So they did like up to 80 to 100. 100 mean they be like 150 or something be in less in sea world in real life lol.
Don't worry MC, I guarantee the writers will not remember Edler Flower or this time line and everything will become vague, confusing and up for interpretation again. Continuity is not even relevant when you have three platforms trying to tell the same story and contradicting or retconning each other by redoing scenes to try and connect the 3 differing visions.
Well, Twilight never had any proper training to be a ruler, her obvious mental problems were ignored or treated as harmless personality traits, it was never addressed that friendship has limits & cannot solve everything, the tree of harmony was an artificial bioweapon that was never properly studied & it enforced perceived order, ponies based on their tribes faced differing punishments depending on what the did(Pegasus filly threatens magic = Tartarus vs Unicorn mare that repeatedly alter time causing catastrophic results because she didn't grow up = being made the apprentice of an alicorn mare that once mind controlled a town), xenophobia & speciesism were common & considered normal for ponies, the education in Equestria was vastly limited as the concept of the world not needing somecreature to make it happen was feared, the hypocrisy of using magic to alter another's mind was considered ok yet at the same time mind control wasn't, Earth Ponies were hypocrites while Pegasi were arrogant and the unicorns were narcissistic with each of their cultures & only stayed united because of their obsessiveness towards Celestia, Starswirl & other ponies had no care that they banished dangerous creatures & artifacts to another reality with no magic thus polluting it, the Three Tribes created the frozen wastelands that surround the Crystal Empire & created a bioweapon for killing another species while leaving ponies unharmed, Rockhoof is a walking lie as his body is the result of absorbing magic(Not too different from Tirek), and Celestia transformed Twilight & Cadance into alicorns for her own convenience which resulted in Flurryheart being transformed by the spell on her mother which gives suspicion that Cadance can only give birth to alicorn fillies who are actually transformed Pegasus fillies(Possibly even near-full clones of Cadance depending how specific the alicorn transformation spell is pony to pony. Would certainly explain Flurries personality.). So yeah, 75-200 years for Equestria to fall apart, seperate into the three tribes, & other species to no longer be their allies is believable. It makes wonder if Hasbro turned G4 into a tragedy with G5 continuity to salvage the poor writing & lessons they did to G4.
150 to 200 years is long enough of time of peace and prosperity. Combine that with Celestia 1000 years reign, it is without a doubt, Equestria Golden Age. At last, nothing last forever, no matter how much we wish thing to be.
This is so sad. The more G5 goes on the more I don't accept that G5 is really canon. Twilight isn't a bad leader and I think the ponies and other creatures wouldn't simply destroy their cultural bondings over small racisim of ONE unicorn. The mane 6 could defeat the master of chaos, King Sombra, the changelings but not one alicorn? There are four good alicorns and an alliance of other various kingdoms. That's not the only lore break they did. It doesn't synchronize at all with G4.
Of course that’s the case. The reason as to why most fans are upset by this is because of how it wasn’t very long at all after the end of G4, making it feel like a major insult to the previous generation and it’s characters.
@@giannisalazar1077 they literally stated how it’s only been around five generations since the main timeline of G4, that’s at least less than five hundred years. Trust me, I wish they didn’t make Twilight’s rule crumble so fast, but that’s what apparently happened 😔
@@giannisalazar1077 you didn’t even watch the video that we’re commenting on then, the video is literally about figuring out how long it’s been since G4 with the old mare mentioning her great, great, great aunt Moondancer, which, if you don’t recall was one of Twilight’s very few friends before she met The Mane Six. I would love to give G5 the benefit of the doubt that there is some more reasonable connection to the ending of G4, but I’m pretty certain that MYM’s not doing any sugarcoating here. We only have three episodes and one special left to give a better explanation, but I’m not holding my breath for that one bit. G5 was a dumb idea in the first place. Mlp had such a great legacy, of course no other ponies could replace twilight and her friends and still be able to carry that weight.
I think its fairly obv that we arent meant to take her words as gospel. Its repeated many times that she isnt straight to the point. Plus theres many other things that contradict with this. Her age, the destiny carpet, the ruins, etc. Shes portrayed as a kooky old lady who tells stories and talks with spirits. What she claims is fairly likely to be stories she heard from ghosts, esp since despite moondancer being her ancient relative, she claims she was at the s2 wedding. Going doomer from an extremely shaky theory just is not good
I like to think that Twilight had a mental breakdown after their friends death and couldn't successfully rule Equestria without them, this is only justification.

At the very very least G5 could’ve done to not completely trash G4 was not make her rein last no longer than a century. If Twilight’s friends passed and then the villain trio or some other big threat came along, Twilight wouldn’t have the friendship power to stop them at least. I would prefer Equestria to fall after Twilight’s rule, but at least it would make some amount of sense as to how Equestria fell under her. But nope! We gotta bring back all of the mane six in explaining Equestria’s downfall, because that’s what’ll be more marketable! Right? *sigh* Also, that one prophecy blanket in that TYT episode was said to have been passed down for ten generations. So, that means that the mane five were prophecized BEFORE the mane six were even born? What the actual hay? 😑
This is assuming that Elder Flower was accurate about how many "greats" there were. And recent events shows that a lot can happen in a short amount of time. The USA went from being the leader of the free world to a piece of crap country on the verge of "Civil War 2" in less than a decade. There's also the fact that no matter how much work Twilight and her friends did for establishing Friendship, they in no way have any control over it.
To be hip with the kids, of course. Never mind the fact that putting modern technology in a setting can leave the show severely dated as tech marches on in the real world. "It's just a cartoon for little girls to make them buy our toys, we don't actually have to put effort into it!"
So did many villains in the past. Including three all at once with Windigos on top of that, yet Twilight and everyone else couldn’t stop a single random Alicorn. Plus, it’s just terrible writing in general to have Equestria fall under Twilight, let alone when her friends were still alive.
Man, G5 IMO could have actually followed G4 AND kept things straight and sensible, but ... the more I think about this, the more disappointing this feels.
"The world changing events of G4 was a waste of time". Alright, a few things to note here. Just because Twilight attained peace and harmony in her timeline doesn't mean the world will stop having problems. Harmony must be actively maintain generation after generation. Unfortunately, Equestria failed to do so at some point, Princess Twilight done what she have to keep everybody from harming each other. Secondly, I don't agree with Twilight's legacy being all for nothing. If its not, then why Sunny and her dad still study ancient Equestria and read written exploits of the Mane 6? Remember what Twilight said in her speech to the Evil Triad at the end of season 9? "There will always be darkness in the world, but there will also always be those who find the light!" That includes those in the future timeline. Whatever cause the divide between the pony tribes, Sunny shined that light in her time and started the journey of returning harmony in Equestria.
There’s a clear difference between Equestria falling naturally and falling for the sake of it. It makes G4 feel like it was worthless because everyone forgot what Twilight and her friends fought for in only around two decades. All so we can make these new characters in G5 look better instead of having them stand on their own.

Sooner or later they have to say how much time has passed cause you cant let it up in the air how things got this bad under twilight that is bad story telling.
2:15 Elder Flower said "great-great-great-great-aunt Moondancer," so more like Moondancer's sister continued the family bloodline.

You forget that most of G5 doesn't happen in main Equestria.
Moon is a month. It refers to the cycle of the moon. Which is a month long.
This also means that Moondancer probally lived in Bridalwood at or near the end of her life.
those calculations are a but off since in the light cannon season 10 comics they actually talk about the ages
the average foal giving age is like 50-100 but can vary largely
unicorns can live up to 180 years and the oldest is actually in moondancers family around 400 or so
it could be minimum of 300 years or so to like almost 800

After watching chapter 6, Elderflowers tale, Legend of the guardians, real story about Opalines 1. attempt to get her dirty hoofs on pony and dragon magic and her little backstory,
I have this theory about how everything went down :
Before FIM s1
-Opaline was schoolmate with Luna and Celestia, they were the most popular foals in school and ignored her out of arrogance so she got bad (knowing them they probably didn't want to be friends with her because she was petty, short-tempered jerk)
-From some reason, Celestia and Luna leave Skyros for some reason
After FIM s9
-At some point Twilight discovers the Unity Crystals and their properties, becoming too fixated on them.
-Opaline at some point during the war learns and starts to steal cutie marks
-After many failed attempts, Opaline seizes Firehearth Scepter (how I remember it was called), destroys it and sucks up its power, gaining ability to control dragons (part of a reason Spike's the DL now), brainwashing them, forcing them to turn on ponies, using their power to fuel her magic.
-She conquers Equestria, for a few months
-Seeing that Opaline will never stop and left with no other options to secure Equestrias future, Twilight and Luster (by then probably alicorn) make a final desparate attempt to stop Opalines reign of terror.
-Rainbow and Fluttershy lead pegasi to Zephyr Heights
-Most of the unicorns go to Bridlewood with Rarity, but some settle with Starlight, Sunburst and Trixie in Starlight Ridge.
-Twilight settles with her family in Crystal Empire.
-Over time, unicorns living at Starlight bridge evolve into aroricorns due to locations unique magical energies and develop their own magic separete form the unicorns.
So twilight's rule was short lived
And the story about Luster Dawn. My theory after that episode was that Luster Dawn was Twilight's second. So when she had to go on royal duties, Luster Dawn took over the Kingdom.
Opaline was able to spread chaos because against the pony races when Twilight wasn't there to stop her from the jump!
My theory is that Sunny's dad is a decendant of Twilight if you look at his cutie mark and the mark is on Sunny's bag!
@@ronaldpagar6513 I like that theory, it could be possible that they're still alive!

If 1500 years have really passed there, then you have a question:
Why are the ruins of Canterlot preserved, and they look as if only 100-300 years have passed and even some things have been preserved (fabrics and moldy food) and it is not necessary to write everything off to the fact that the Discord was holding everything up. He didn't have magic either.
Everything is simpler here. Hasbro didn't think about the time frame, so everyone is right for themselves. One thinks 10,000 years have passed, you think 1500 years have passed, and I think 300 years have passed. Believe me, this time is quite enough for history.

I hate it when alicorns are made to be tools of politics.

Totally agreed, I never understand why people think gen5 erases everything Twilight and the gang accomplishmented
Yes I was waiting for something like this!!
I think you did the math wrong... It's impossible to be 75 years. Specially If Elder Flower is 60 years old at least.
theres some lore he missed
unicorns live like 200 years on average and moondancers family can live up to 400

And thats why g5 is terrible. The writers really did F up.
Irs been said that they where going around for months doing it not 1 day. Lol
Many speculate G5's locations takes place on the South-East of Equestria, it fits the locations shown in G5 perfectly according to all the maps,
MY THEORY:
Twilight probably gave up on the world when her friends died which made all creatures and all tribes to fall apart.
In order to give the friendship trees the power they need to continue to protect pony kind, you'd need to infuse new artifacts with lots of pony magic, and i think twilight used alot of her magic to make new crystals to protect everything and got sent to a limbo like starswirl and the pillars had done to themselves
everything crumbles so fast because her friends only live for one out of five lifetimes that it's been since then and twiley does something dramatic to save the dayss
does not conflict with the lore at all it's so accurate twily is not a good leader on her own >:3
As Sunny put it in her version of how the ponies got separated, 'an Earth Pony got hurt by a Unicorn'. Which could be a family/foal friendly way of saying that Applejack or Pinkie Pie may not have passed naturally. Judging from how things started to strain in the first half of Magical Mystery Cure, Pinkie is more likely.
@@karlthorkildson4650 Yeah for sure !! take that version with salt tho bc they do say it's their theory not facts, there could've been no pony on pony war too !
i think it would be coolest if; since the stone spells would eventually fade, Chrissy Tirek Cozy would excape and recruit more to their villian team and free opaline from Dawns spider Web;

I don’t care what anyone says, G5 isn’t canon and that’s final
@@liquidnation9992 You are totally valid. We can all still enjoy G4 and block out G5. I do that with many sequels to different media.
It's explicitly Canon what are u on lol
She must be a child of Spike and Rarity.."
Heck her name is even similar to Rarity's CAT, both Opaline and Opalescence can be shorted to Opal and relate to that gem.
Cantersoft said it in his own video that it's likely between 1,000 to 5,000 years, which makes much more
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it would've been better if Twilight's fall was a deconstruction of the finale's "happy ending", where her rule crumbles partially because outlives her friends, (because curse of immortality) and Opaline's invasion is the final nail in the coffin"
If anything, the biggest plot hole is that it turns out G4 is a book, so how would you explain this generation's existence?
They established in the G5 comics that Equestria fell right after the ending of G4, as evidence by Twilight’s friends still being around and Pinkie’s son Lil Cheese looking the exact age as in The Last Problem
Hasbro really messed up Lauren Faust’s vision of mlp.
Granny smith was there when ponyvile was founded! She is ancient! Like i give her 300 years tops!
You forgot about one thing, when we see twilight in g5 story, she is still young even the background story about the past events twilight is still young also when spike show up in the story again he his not buff like the ending of Gen 4 shows spike as buff dragon, yeah I know that redesign is a thing then why does twilight is not old in the hologram or the flashback which I believe that they retcon the fewer event of gen4 story to make gen5 and gen4 connects or having Gen 5 in alternate timeline which twilight does not rule for long, that's why she is young and that's why spike is not buff dragon because when the ruin hit the only allied by the ponies is the dragons in this timeline.
well, sh*t...
I didn't expected it to be so bad :/
2:15 MOON DANCER THE MOON DANCER THAT WAS A BOOK SHYCO
Well it is logical step
We as humans go from countries that stay for thousands years for countries that change name and sides in less than hundreds.
But then how does Equestria Girls fit in?
I don't know if I believe this old mare, according to what we've seen of her, she must be living in her own stories that she's heard over the years
I mean if twilight is princess of friendship then why would she do it?
I don’t take the cannon of the show too seriously, there’s things in the main serious I cannot forgive but I still love mlp, I just kinda make up my own cannon and enjoy the show for what it is
you know at least when Beast Wars was made, the writers kept details ambiguous as to how far in the future that show was from G1 Transformers, later it got confirmed to be at least 300yrs in the future.
doing this allowed the show to stand on its own but also have enough room to leave things open to what happened between shows and any connections made to G1 and or the comics was minimal
hell Beast Wars even has their own take on the moondancer relatives joke with how Rattrap mentioned that Arcee from G1 was his Great Aunt, at first it was just a joke, but got incorporated into the lore and it didn't break the story.
i think this was the writers intention as well, just make a joke about G4's moondancer having a relative, but in doing so it neglected to account for what this implies and like you said the timeline now shows that Twilight's rule and struggles in G4 were meaningless
this just further enforces the idea that G5 should have been it's own series
I think Celestias and Lunas rule goes way past 1000 years but yk just thinking
Such a typical thing for writers these days to do.🤦♀️ tear down the beloved older characters to make the new characters story work or to make them look good. Star Wars is a great example of this. 😞😒 I was afraid this was going to happen when they announced that G5 was going to take place in the future of the G4 universe.
The one thing that twilight stood for, was the one thing she couldn't fix in the end...
Tbf, twilight didn’t have a group of 6 ponies to pawn her problems onto like celestia did

Idiot Moondancer is her grandgreat great great great aunt? Something like that.
Moondancer has a sister.
G5 should have been it's own thing not connected to G4 in anyway
Technically Twilight or discornd or Cadence or flurry could stilll be alive
Maybe she's still hiding so e were
Only 75- 200 years the royal sisters should still be alive and mabey the other princesses.
Maybe SPECIES segregation made sense, don't you think

What about that quilt? Wasn't that supposed to be eight generations after Twilight?
well TYT episdoe did have sunny father say Ten generations at some point
It makes sense for the kingdom to fall apart no kingdom ever last forever
Of course that’s the case. The reason as to why most fans are upset by this is because of how it wasn’t very long at all after the end of G4, making it feel like a major insult to the previous generation and it’s characters.

G5 was a dumb idea in the first place. Mlp had such a great legacy, of course no other ponies could replace twilight and her friends and still be able to carry that weight.
I think its fairly obv that we arent meant to take her words as gospel. Its repeated many times that she isnt straight to the point.

Right? *sigh*

Well you can blame Opaline for destroying Twilight and her friends' hard work.
So did many villains in the past. Including three all at once with Windigos on top of that, yet Twilight and everyone else couldn’t stop a single random Alicorn. Plus, it’s just terrible writing in general to have Equestria fall under Twilight, let alone when her friends were still alive.
It is just sad
Man, G5 IMO could have actually followed G4 AND kept things straight and sensible, but ... the more I think about this, the more disappointing this feels.
this is an insult to g4
that would turn g5 into a sinking ship
"There will always be darkness in the world, but there will also always be those who find the light!"
That includes those in the future timeline.
