It looks like Paradise from other people’s perspectives but, it must be serious that they need to pack up and leave. Refurbishing old listed places costs a huge amount of money, they are like money pits and Scott and Katie have done a tremendous job with all the restrictions imposed on them. Scotland is a beautiful place and the islands especially, however living there 24/7 is hard on a person physically and mentally. I have become very fond of Scott and Katie and full of admiration. They are brave to have taken the project on but even braver to leave it all behind. I sincerely hope they find another Paradise with much less hardship. Katie is a stalwart and a fine lady. I totally agree with you. I live in a listed medieval castle in the Netherlands so I know how a money pit it is and very hard work and always something leaks or is broken which has to be fixed by ourselves because professionals don’t understand the building or don’t do this kind of things. It is beautiful living but it comes with litterly a price
Yep, totally agree, they have a lot of "pluck" as we say and will land on their feet, in spite of this hardship -- and at this time of year no less! I do not know all the details, but having to leave at this time of year especially is onerous. I predict your channel will only grow after this.

I discovered you four days ago by accident, binge watched, subscribed and joined the patreon, my very first! Your hard work, wit and excellent eye for good imafes had me from the beginning but Katie's voice and way with words are just a joy as are the glimpses of family via recipes and spirituality that weaves throughout. Katie, I thought that you and Scott had bought this property and help with maintaining the property around yours for the use of the quad and trailer. But my thoughts and best wishes are with you guys. So sorry for what you guys are going through. You were doing such a beautiful job on this property.
It appears that it was an arrangement with the owner to maintain, renovate and film this process of the house whilst living there in horrible conditions. The boats, quad, trailer were provided to them to take care of the property around there. In effect, they had to work and live under severe circumstances and then the owner reneged on the agreement and starved them out. I am guessing that the owner did not want the terms of this agreement published, hence their reluctance to publish their circumstances.

Seeing you drive home on that track i am speechless. What would you do if snowed in, or if the car packed up, or trees down, blocking access etc. No regular access to drinking water, food for pets let alone yourselves! Now no heat. Please get out now. It's insane. So dangerous. No access for emergency vehicles if ill or accidents. Guys you are so brave but for goodness sake, there is darkness in this place. I cant imagine who the owners think will ever live there - maybe someone with a good motor boat as a summer retreat, otherwise its madness.

We've learned that you two actually ARE interesting and can build a YT channel thourgh engagement and photography. Guess what? We spent years living in vehicles and then years on the English canals, we would always make our little space nice and homily.. then we'd get moved on or loose our mooring. Came north in 2004, after wifey got a teaching job in an island school with 60 kids.. been here 20 years now. Can't beat island life.. just maybe not a privately owned one. Good luck for the future.
You know, if you could find a bit of land with a cottage and barn near a town or village, you'd be set! You could use part of the barn for furniture restoration, live in the cottage, and the sheep on the land.

Scott and Katie, we have so enjoyed your videos and adventures on the Scottish isle! We will follow where ever you go. We have some familiarity with the challenges you faced there, my sisters husbands family have a cottage in the Yorkshire dales, they’ve owned it since the 1960s, and use it for holidays. However, no one has lived there for years. People tried to, but when it rained, water literally seeped up through the flagstone floor! It’s damp in places, the water is piped through from a spring, but the supply feeds two farms as well as the cottage and can run very low, or sometimes stop altogether. There’s a filter, but the water must be boiled before drinking. There is only one coal fire for heating, which also heats the water. Everything freezes up in winter, you can get snowed in for weeks! The cottage next door, which is a more modern rebuild, was sold two years ago, and the family toughed it out for two years before admitting defeat! We love going there, and always do a bit of work to contribute to the maintenance, but living there would be a different story! Once off the main road, it’s a mile of farm track and several gates to open and close to get to it, and the end near the cottage is unfinished and very rough. But like the Scottish isle, it’s an amazing place to stay. We hope so much that you find somewhere equally amazing, when one door closes another opens! All the skills and experience you’ve gained will go with you too, wishing you all the best, and look forward to your next adventure 😊

We were stationed in Berlin from 3/85 to 7/88. It was the best assignment we ever had. We traveled every chance we had. We went to the British NAAFI numerous times and took the British duty train every time we had visitors. Living in Berlin was a wonderful family experience.

I live on the shore of a sea loch and starting later this month ( nov ) its going to get stormy. One bad storm I lost my wooden dinghy. It turned up miles up the coast and I got it back :-) I've found all sorts of odd things on the beach after a storm. Good luck with the next part of your adventure :-)

Sounds to me, like it's a good job this cr*p is happening now, can you imagine having to go through this after maybe 2 or 3 years , heart breaking i know... the owners possibly are trying to make life difficult for yourselves and being petty by taking away the only source of heating, people can be awful, anyways good health to you and yours and chin up, there are bound to be new adventures just waiting for you two.

This video made me laugh, smile and also heartbreaking. Loved the Viking with an idea.. Katie I just burst out laughing when you found the wheelbarrow. What kind of people take your only source of heat. Monsters, just horrible. I do hope something better comes along and I will always be a fan.
Seeing you drive home on that track i am speechless. What would you do if snowed in, or if the car packed up, or trees down, blocking access etc. No regular access to drinking water, food for pets let alone yourselves! Now no heat. Please get out now. It's insane. So dangerous. No access for emergency vehicles if ill or accidents. Guys you are so brave but for goodness sake, there is darkness in this place. I cant imagine who the owners think will ever live there - maybe someone with a good motor boat as a summer retreat, otherwise its madness.

Not the island, not the critters, not the tide, you two are the reason why there are subs and why you've done as well as you have. Simple fact, accept it. Secondly, the top drawer photography accentuates your presentation. So what have we learned? We've learned that you two actually ARE interesting and can build a YT channel thourgh engagement and photography. Guess what? YA DON'T NEED AN ISLAND OR TUMBLE DOWN SHANTY TO HAVE YOUR CHANNEL BE SUCCESSFUL. What you are taking off the island when you leave is EVERYTHING you had that made your channel succeed. If nothing else, hook up with Ruth Aisling and Fandabobi Dozi and somewhere between the two is a great fit for the two of you. We spent years living in vehicles and then years on the English canals, we would always make our little space nice and homily.. then we'd get moved on or loose our mooring.
Came north in 2004, after wifey got a teaching job in an island school with 60 kids.. been here 20 years now.
Can't beat island life.. just maybe not a privately owned one.

Scott and Katie, we have so enjoyed your videos and adventures on the Scottish isle! We will follow where ever you go. We have some familiarity with the challenges you faced there, my sisters husbands family have a cottage in the Yorkshire dales, they’ve owned it since the 1960s, and use it for holidays. However, no one has lived there for years. People tried to, but when it rained, water literally seeped up through the flagstone floor! It’s damp in places, the water is piped through from a spring, but the supply feeds two farms as well as the cottage and can run very low, or sometimes stop altogether. There’s a filter, but the water must be boiled before drinking. There is only one coal fire for heating, which also heats the water. Everything freezes up in winter, you can get snowed in for weeks! The cottage next door, which is a more modern rebuild, was sold two years ago, and the family toughed it out for two years before admitting defeat! We love going there, and always do a bit of work to contribute to the maintenance, but living there would be a different story! Once off the main road, it’s a mile of farm track and several gates to open and close to get to it, and the end near the cottage is unfinished and very rough. But like the Scottish isle, it’s an amazing place to stay. We hope so much that you find somewhere equally amazing, when one door closes another opens! All the skills and experience you’ve gained will go with you too, wishing you all the best, and look forward to your next adventure 😊

We were stationed in Berlin from 3/85 to 7/88. It was the best assignment we ever had. We traveled every chance we had. We went to the British NAAFI numerous times and took the British duty train every time we had visitors. Living in Berlin was a wonderful family experience.

I live on the shore of a sea loch and starting later this month ( nov ) its going to get stormy. One bad storm I lost my wooden dinghy. It turned up miles up the coast and I got it back :-) I've found all sorts of odd things on the beach after a storm. Good luck with the next part of your adventure :-)

Sounds to me, like it's a good job this cr*p is happening now, can you imagine having to go through this after maybe 2 or 3 years , heart breaking i know... the owners possibly are trying to make life difficult for yourselves and being petty by taking away the only source of heating, people can be awful, anyways good health to you and yours and chin up, there are bound to be new adventures just waiting for you two.
My heart would shatter if I had to leave this amazing place , in a vicarious way it is . Whatever and wherever you go we go with you . Much like the crofters of the past we all wish to see each other thrive . ❤

The wheel barrow hunt was so flippin' funny. I laughed out loud at your devious sense of humor, Katie. 😆 I have never given sheep much of a thought but watching your sheep with you two has given me an appreciation for how sweet they can be. Too bad you can't take your new deer friend with you. They will definitely miss you and their sheep friends. Scott's love of animals is so visible in the joy he expressed finding the seals.
