Imagine knowing your movie will rely on the acting skills of a small child, and then finding this kid. Amazing.
Haley was nominated for an Oscar for this.
Lmao seriously tho! Like “hey kid, this movie determines if I will be able to eat for the next year or so… no pressure tho” 😂
E.T. was a similar situation. The audition tape for the kid who played Elliot is simply amazing, I'd suggest checking it out.
Lol, White people were hung in your country as well, black people didn't have an ownership on brutality and hardship. So, most likely the people the kid were referring to at the school were White
@@edmunddantes7097it made me cry when I first watched it 😂 he was too good
That was the mom, she suffers from a condition called Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy where a caregiver will make the person they’re ‘caring’ for sick. It’s an attention seeking disorder. Thank goodness it’s a rare disorder
I thought she was doing it for the insurance money. Because she started to make she other daughter sick right after.
@@HillarySunday-ex5bi You can see another example of "Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy" in season 1 of "True Detective."
I also love the touch of putting the mom in red while everyone else is in black, mourning. It really shows how attention seeking she is.
@@HillarySunday-ex5bishe was making the daughters sick because she wanted the attention and pity.
@@wendybooth4074Red was a huge theme for when ghosts were around. Cole's tent, the doorknob that always get locked, the balloon when Cole was locked in the "dungeon", the Mom's jacket and plenty more. This movie is great for a second watch just to see all the times they hinted at what was going on.
It was Kyra's mother who was poisoning her, not a doctor. The mom wasn't wearing a doctor's coat (which is usually white), she was wearing a bright red jacket at her daughter's funeral instead of black clothes like everyone else. her mom had a mental health condition called Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. A caregiver (usually a parent) who craves attention & sympathy resorts to inflicting injury or causes illness so other people will feel sorry for them & give praise for "being such a loving & caring" person. One of the most famous & horrific incidents is the recent case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard & her mother, Dee-Dee, whom she had killed in order to escape the abuse she suffered for years. Gypsy Rose ended up serving 10 years in prison & was released last December.
True. Lots of cases like that go undetected because the parent will change doctors before one of them can see the pattern.
What she said.
THIS!
Jesus that was a mouthful... good job tho
Also, as if a doctor would wear their doctor's coat to a funeral.
Props to my girl Toni Collette, mum to Cole, who chewed the scenery with this film.
AMAZING!
Toni Collette is one of my favourite actor! I loved her in nearly everything she's been in
She was nominated for an Oscar for this role and she should have won. She makes me tear up every time. Also, props to Donnie Wahlberg, a.k.a. Sgt Carwood Lipton from Band of Brothers, a.k.a. New Kid on the Block, as adult Vincent.
All hail Toni Collette!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽💜💜💜
Watching them watch this movie made me realize what a masterpiece this movie is.
They thought this was a drama about childhood abuse for like the first 45 mins of the movie, then they thought it was a horror movie for about 30 mins, then it became a feel-good movie about helping ghosts, and by the end they're both choking up ready to cry -- then and only then do they realize the main character has been dead the entire film and they literally saw it happen in the opening scene. Masterpiece.
Our minds literally shattered lol we are happy we went into this movie blind because usually we are pretty good at making connections throughout a film but all we could do is watch and see where the film would take with this one. Masterpiece truly!
This really is a masterpiece, every moment crafted to give all the clues and yet somehow manage to keep the mystery the whole time. I've seen dozens of reactions to it and only once have I seen someone guess the twist before the reveal.
@@enicole1203 The thing that's great about it is all of those movies work. They were fully engaged with the childhood abuse drama, they were scared in the horror movie, they were moved in the feel-good movie, they were shocked by the twist. It's like 4 different movies in one and all of them are good movies.
DOCTOR??? That makes no sense story-wise! What’s more dramatic, a mother poisoning her own child or a “doctor”?
Actually, where’d you get the idea there was a doctor? What doctor nowadays makes house visits???
The acting in this movie is so good Haley Joel Osment should have won his Oscar he was nominated for
Everybody thought he was going to be the next great actor. Shame his head kept growing without his face.
@@twelvecatsinatrenchcoat😂😂😂😂
@@twelvecatsinatrenchcoat Whatever your opinion of an actor's personal appearance, it is very inappropriate to post personally insulting, body-shaming comments.
He was haunting his wife without even knowing it
This right here! It’s crazy to even think about.
And that's a haunting notion..😦
Notice no one ever spoke to Malcolm and Cole knew he was dead the whole time that's why he was scared to talk to him at first
That’s what we ended up putting together once we realized he was dead! TOP 5 MOVIE
@@DaKidsReact Malcom is also wearing the same clothes for almost the entire movie. Same blue shirt with the blood on the back. He's always got a jacket on.
And that's why he said, "you're the only one who can help me. I know it." 🥺
"Im going to see you again arent i?"
The voice speaking Spanish on the tape was a ghost that Vincent was seeing/hearing. It wasn't Vincent speaking Spanish. Also, note the use of the color Red in scenes where ghosts are. The balloon and Cole's sweater at the party, the killer mom's attire at the funeral, Malcolm's closet doorknob.....
I think it’s a basement door, but same point lol.
Very famous story and nobody ever spoils it for the next person.
The little girl whose funeral they go to was poisoned by her mother. The woman wearing red is her mother.
Dude, I know we didn't have social media back in the day, but I still found it incredible that it never got out when it was in theaters. I still remember my reactions back then in the theater!!!!
I'm 55 and only watched this movie through another reaction channel last year. I had no clue what it was about, no one ever talked about it.
This movie came out before social media started ruining everything so we were able to go to the theater without any clue about the twist at the end. Great movie, thanks for the reaction video.
Sounds like an amazing experience to have with a bunch of other great people!
Right!!!! I remember being in the car the Monday after this movie came out and the DJ was telling the listeners to PLEASE not give away the ending for those who haven’t seen it yet. It was an awesome time.
You could here a pin drop in the theater when Malcolm realized he was dead. A great reaction again Kids...
I saw this in the theater, and, when the big reveal happens where Malcolm is shown to have died, the audience just gasped. It was such a shock. If you rewatch it, you'll see all the clues that Malcolm is actually a ghost, but it's so well done that you don't recognize the obvious. I agree that this one is a 10. Your reactions were really great!!
Appreciate the love! We enjoyed this from start to finish and we will definitely have to go back and watch to see all the clues we missed lol🤦🏾♂️

@@DaKidsReact yes no one but cole.talks to him. Even when the mom is around she never interacts. He says he keeps "losing track of time." Cole runs from him the 1st time he sees him...
Fun fact, the guy who shot Bruce in the beginning is actually Donnie Wahlberg. He lost a bunch of weight for this role to prove that he was serious about acting.
He was effing phenomenal in this short little part!💜💜💜
I love the mom-kid relationship in this film
It's so real and so heartfelt.
Good point. Super well written and acted by both of them. Feels 100% real. Movie would've suffered enormously if that relationship didn't work so well. That actress doesn't get enough credit.
@@twelvecatsinatrenchcoat She’s criminally overlooked across the board. Her work in Hereditary should have gotten an Oscar nod.

You won`t be sorry!
The end is brilliant - you get the emotional resolution between Cole and his mother and it’s all positive and uplifting…and then comes the twist. Which is why it’s even more gut kicking.
The mom was the one in red at the funeral
I’m loving this channel. You two are too cool and have become my favorite reactors on TH-cam. All the success in the world to you guys.
Appreciate the love and the kind words! It means a lot 🥲
You notice Cole was running to the church at the first because he was scared. He knew Malcolm was a ghost.
Imagine how terrifying it was to be locked in that room with that guy, who he actually saw and knew was in there with him
The actor for Cole tends to overshadow his mom's performance and Malcom's, but they were all outstanding!
1000% You will give "Shawshenk Redemption." I have never heard one person not be mind blown after seeing that. Y'all will love it,I'm positive 😊
Shawshank Redemption is still my number one movie of all times. Brilliant.
That was the mom. Not the doctor. Notice she is wearing red just like everything else in this movie. The doorknob, the restaraunt bill. The balloon. All things red. The clues were there the whole time but we didn't notice. What a great film. One of the best. Best plot twist for sure.
The child actor is soo amazing in this, I get chills every time I watch his performance
Haley Joel Osment. He's great in "Pay It Forward" too. He had an adult role in The Boys, but it was a small one.
Acted his a** off!!
M Night Shyamalan called out his talent, saying that he could turn it on and off at will. They'd cut the scene, start again, and the kid brought it back exactly perfect every time.
My recommendation for another Haley Joel Osment film is "Secondhand Lions". Osment matches step with Robert Duvall, Michael Caine, and Kyra Sedgewick; not an easy task.
Secondhand Lions is pretty good too, also stars Hailey Joel Osmond a couple yrs more grown
I love that film
Y'all are so compassionate and emotionally intelligent to understand everyone's feelings and what they were going through. And I believe "Cole" was nominated for an Oscar.
You’d think Vincent of all people should have known that suicide would be no escape.
No, I can understand the Mom being mad, as much as I understand Cole not wanting to tell her. She promised not to be mad if he told her the truth- that is, if he confessed to taking the bumblebee pendant. She couldn’t conceive any other possible explanation; so she believed he was lying to her. And as much as this was a mistake on her part, I honestly can’t really blame her. In a larger sense it meant she felt she was losing him. That’s why she got mad.
It was the mom (or possibly the stepmom?) who was poisoning the girl. The way she was talking and interacting with her in the video- that isn’t how a doctor would be. And also the way the father reacted as he was watching, the way he confronted her afterwards? this was an _intimate_ betrayal.
One of my favorite movies of all time! ❤
The mother had been keeping the girl sick for sympathy for herself. She eventually killed her but now she was doing the same to her youngest daughter.
It’s not sympathy
It’s attention
Research Münchausen syndrome and Münchausen syndrome by Proxy
The latter applies to this “mother”
@@NF40375 seeking sympathy and seeking attention are one in the same. she WAS seeking sympathy because sympathy gets you attention, very warm "i'm so sorry youre daughter died. you were such a good parent" type of attention
Any time you think you're having a bad day, just remember that Malcolm was dead and still had to go to work.
😂😂
I'm SO GLAD YOU GUYS DID THIS ONE!! Easily one of my favorites of all the movies I've suggested!! Thank you guys for putting this one on here!❤❤❤
Appreciate you Vi!! Great recommendations as always❤️
fun fact: M. Night is from Philly (penn valley, philly suburb)! every single one of his movies take place in PA somewhere... and he always uses philly as the marker on the map. i did a biography paper on him back in the day this movie influenced me when it came out.
Director M. Night Shyamalan is from Philly. He has a small acting role in the movie also as the doctor (Indian guy) who tells Cole's mom he is concerned about his bruises and is calling a social worker.
Thanks to Da Kids for reacting to The Sixth Sense, one of the best movies out there. When you watch it again, knowing the twists and turns in the plot, you'll really appreciate the craft and art of this movie's script and acting, editing, filming and directing. It delivers a high standard of film making. Also, enjoying your reactions to Breaking Bad.
Appreciate the love and support! We will definitely have to watch it again and really grasp how great of a film it is! This was a great one 🔥
The guy that plays Vincent is now on Blue Bloods. He is also a member of NKOTB
Donnie Wahlberg, he was also in Band of Brothers.
You've both left out the most important part of his resume, that he's Markie-Mark's brother.
@@twelvecatsinatrenchcoat Good Vibrations
The color red appears with death or dead people. When Malcom was watching the play, there are fewer people and there is a red light.
I got chills when you realized the twist.
Never saw that coming😬
In the Pop-Tarts scene, it was a ghost who opened the cabinets. If you ever get a chance to watch the original "Poltergeist" movie from the 1980s, it establishes that ghosts can move objects like that. Other ghost movies have established the trope about the temperature getting cold when ghosts are upset, and the light halo in photos around the heads of people who are in the presence of a spirit.
The doctor speaking after Cole is locked in the closet is m knight shyamalan, the director and writer of the movie
Thanks for another awesome reaction. I have to admit that I had a few laughs when I saw your reactions to the ghosts. What's great is that as cool as you guys are, you guys have deep thoughts when it comes to these films.
21:44 "you have to add some twists and stuff (to your story)"
"what kind of twists"
guy on the right, instantly: "somebody dying"
SOMEBODY GET THIS GUY AN AWARD HE GUESSED IT
At first. Cole was apprehensive about Malcom. The penny scene where he asked Malcom “how could you help me if your don’t believe me?” Was a hint to Malcom that his purpose in the afterlife was to help him. Physically moving the penny was the tell
Another favorite from this director is “Signs”. Must watch it. 😊
YESSSSS
My favorite Hayley Joel Osment movie is "Secondhand Lions".
26:24 NOPE. "Hanged" is correct when talking in this context. You got it right.
I just left the same comment lol
Kendrick also named this movie in one of his diss tracks. It's a classic
You guys have to watch all the M. knight movies! They all have twists like this!
The guy that shoots Bruce Willis in the opening scene is actually First Sgt Carwood Lipton from Band Of Brothers!
So, the doctor in the hospital who called in the social worker to ask 'procedural questions', that was the movie's writer/director, M Night Shyamalan. He does a cameo in every film he makes.
Shyamalan was born in India but his family move to the US when he was very, very young; he grew up in Pennsylvania. Family is very important to Shyamalan, so all his films are shot in Pennsylvania to allow him to go home and spend every night with his family.
Consider, Cole lives in one of the earliest major cities in the US, Philidelphia. The housing there may have started off as single-family units, but most have been carved up into apartments. It's no wonder Cole sees 'dead people' everywhere every day.
The color red was a clue to signal the involvement of a ghost. Shyamalan took special care to change the color of anything that was originally or ordinarily red so only 'ghost touch points' were red. Anna (Malcolm's wife) wore red dresses, red sweaters, and red blankets. Kyra's mother wore a red blazer and bright red lipstick. Even the volume dial on the tape recorder laying young Vincent Gray's session became progressively red as the dial hit the top volume limit. And the doorknob on the basement door was red glass. In this film, red tells you where the ghosts are.
The best part of this film is that it's so very 'rewatchable'.
The first time you watch it, it's from Macolm's POV.
The second time you watch it, it's from Cole's POV.
After that, you just keep finding details you missed in previous viewings and just how good the story and acting is.
The real tragedy of this film is how it has been misinterpreted.
The STUDIO didn't understand what the film was, so they marketed it as a horror story. But it isn't that.
It was Shyamalan's first well-funded studio-backed production, and the studio had say in how to advertise it. And they damaged Shyamalan's reputation in the process.
Shyamalan does these amazing movies that demonstrate how spirituality exists in the everyday mundane world. We Americans think spirituality is a part of existence separated from ordinary life, but it's actually the foundation of existence.
Shyamalan 'clothes' his stories in the costume of familiar genres; if you only see the superficials, you miss the point. But if you dig deeper, you find deeper truths.
Because the STUDIO marketed this film as a horror story, Shyamalan got the reputation of being a 'one-trick pony', his films always having some weird 'twist'. And they aren't written or shot that way. The assumption is the genre is the reality and the 'twist' is just something dramatic and a lazy artifice. The genre is not the foundation of the film; it's window-dressing for the real meat of the film. What's rea and enduring is the relationships and the spirituality, it's the humanity.
So "The Sixth Sense" is not a horror story; it's a story about fear and forgiveness and courage and healing and family. "Signs" is not an alien invasion film, it just appears to be one superficially. "The Village" seems like a gothic costume drama, but it isn't. "Unbreakable" is construed to be a superhero film, but it's not. And that's just the top of the Shyamalan film list. These al have more to it.
I keep comparing Shyamalan to Rod Serling, who through his tv series "The Twilight Zone" he presented these morality tales dressed up as different familiar genres while telling a very different, almost behind-the-scenes, story. We understood Serling. We celebrated him. But Shyamalan does something very similar and some think he's using the shtick of the 'weird twist' to 'save' an otherwise unimaginative story. Yeah, that's not it.
I am very impressed with how well you grasped what was going on! You got so much of what was happening, and even the editing captured all the important points in the story! The only thing left out (and it rambles a bit, so I can understand leaving it out) was Anna's discussion of the ring she was selling; that explanation of 'imprinting' on an object explains why she was holding her dead husband's wedding ring. It's said that our mourning holds the dead back from moving on; Malcolm doesn't so much haunt Anna as Anna is anchoring Malcolm. I think Shyamalan wasn't as elegant in his explanation of the ring as he could have been. Too often we impose on others the role we want them to perform for us, and that becomes restrictive for both parties.
Still, you recognized and understood on a human level a HUGE amount of what was going on in this film. VERY impressive!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Final question: Do you think this was a 'horror film'? If not, what kind of film would you say it is? (And it's fine to disagree with me.)
I saw this in the theater when it first came out and still remember everyone gasping at the reveal. So good!
This one really pulled on the heartstrings. Suspenseful and heart-wrenching. Classic. I also want to say that you have such good hearts. It's so clear that you're good people. Thanks for sharing. Peace. :)

The guy who made this movie is beyond great. Many of his movies are on this level. I like Unbreakable with Bruce Willis again and Sam Jackson. Thats a good one too
It took me a long time to realize that skinny kid that shot him was Donnie Wahlberg from NKOTB. He lost alot of weight just to do that part. Almost unrecognizable.

You were right the first time when talking about the scene with the executed people. They were hanged, not hung. People are hanged , pictures are hung 😊 👍
You were correct when you refered to them as having been hanged. A person is hanged and an object is hung. If a person is hung, well, that means something different 😅
With regards to why Malcolm's wife was cold in the basement, I've always thought that since Vincent was around, so were the ghosts following him ;-)

nice reaction and commentary 😀
In retrospect, there are so many clues that should tell us what's really going on, but we follow the events from Malcom's point of view and also "only see what we want to see": a scared Cole running off to church, Malcolm always wearing the same coat, nobody except Cole ever talking to Malcolm directly, the table served for 1 person, the locked door, her different attitude while she had clearly stated her respect for his dedication even if it put her second, etc. But the movie is so well crafted in that each time there is viable alternative interpretation that we are pushed to believe. And usually each clue is accompanied by a new piece of information that distracts us, while the steady pace prevents us from thinking it through more thoroughly, so we stick with the "easy solution". I've only seen a few reactors who figured it out early, and that was either because they were pausing a lot to analyze (thus breaking the pace), or because they were familiar with M Knight's later movies and went into this one expecting a major plot twist. Definitely a movie worth watching a 2nd time, from a completely different angle.
