although i'm from this era of music and until recently would have agreed with you, but there are two all girl bands out of japan, lovebites and bandmaid who are on a par, if not better. i've been a metal fan all my life and lovebites are probably the most talented i've heard, nightwish also deserve a mention
I had the same thoughts until I heard Lovebites, they are currently the best metal band on the planet, "Edge of the world" th-cam.com/video/jQKf8Dy_chA/w-d-xo.html
Gen exer here. Grew up on Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, etc... on her comment "They don't make solos like this anymore" Miyako & Midori(Lovebites), Kanami(Band Maid) replied "Hold our beers!"
sorry but I totally disagree I totaly love this song and this band but that level of talent absolutely exist today in young bands . I know a few of them but you will never hear of them unless you search youtube because recording lables will never promote them . they are looking for quick mindless and meaningless pop songs . The talent IS there, just not out there
The quality of this video is so amazing that people forget that it was filmed over half a century ago and was recorded in a Granada TV studio where any movement or sound from the audience might have distracted the crew. Cameras were about the size of a washing machine and weighed as much as a man. Colour television broadcasting had been introduced in Europe by the BBC just three years prior to this, and it was only in November of the previous year that Granada began broadcasting colour. The fact that this film still exists is miraculous as it was expensive to archive film. This was long before the existence of autotune, in-ear monitors, on-line vocal coaches, radio mics, etc., and yet it looks and sounds as if it could have been filmed yesterday.
Imagine having been the kid with the cranky day, that threw a tantrum about not wanting to go, that stayed home that day. Would be the regret of a lifetime.
Today, 54 years after this video, Deep Purple are still and permanently touring (singer, bassist and drummer the same as in the video). They even had a sensational new album out last month. Ian Gillan was the first person to sing Webber‘s Jesus Christ Superstar (1969).
A band full of rock gods. Ritchie Blackmore guitar John Lord keyboard Roger Glover bass Ian Paice drummer and Ian Gillan vocals. They don't make music like this anymore.
Thanks for inspiration to do some stats digging, here's a first estimate from the Llama AI - will have to see which Mmle Swift hasn't reviewed yet ... Ian Gillan said his 'talent' was to be able to scream in tune. Case proved? I would suggest that you check out "Smoke On The Water" even if you have not heard it before, you may recognise the riff. The organ D.P tended to use they call The Beast; a Hammond played through Marshall (guitar amp) stacks. Keep Reacting!
One of the most talented rock bands ever, and one of the most popular bands in the 1970's. Another great band from that time period, and also considered one of the greatest ever, was Led Zeppelin. I would recommend their song Stairway To Heaven Live at Madison Square Garden 1973 official video.
I chuckled when you said your comment about the commitment to grow that luscious hair!!😅😅 It was NOT a commitment AT ALL back in those days, it's just what we did!! I myself had hair very similar to the guitar player!!😅🎉❤ It was the 70s and we were rebelling!!😅
Just stopped by to check out this reaction to Child In Time. A good introduction to the band. I love the studio version of this song, Ritchie's guitar sounds like it's heading to the stratosphere. This song is a masterpiece as is the album In Rock. Songs like Black Knight, Speed King and Hard Lovin Man are definitely bangers worth checking out. Their Machine Head album from 1972 has songs like Smoke On The Water, Space Truckin and Highway Star. Burn, Strange Kind of Woman, Fools, No One Came and Mistreated are also great. I highly recommend you watch the live 1970 in London video of Mandrake Root. You can almost hear the foundation for speed metal being laid. All master musicians who in live performances pushed their instruments to the limit. Any Jon Lord organ solo was just as meaty as any guitar solo. He was the first musician to amplify the Hammond 3 organ. I subscribed and will be checking out more of your content. Thanks for doing this video.
The crazy thing is that Deep Purple just released their 23rd studio album (=1) this July! This line up of DP (Mark II) first came together in late summer of '69 and lasted to the summer of '73, when the singer Ian GIllan quit. He handed in his resignation from the band 6 months beforhand. The bassist Roger Glover were subsequently fired from the band. The band went through several line up changes and broke up in the summer of '76. The band was in hiatus until 1984, when the Mark II reunited. Several line up changes later, the band is still producing new music and tours extensively. Now there is only one original founding member left of the band from '68, that's the drummer, Ian Paice (76). Today the rest of the band (Mark IX) is; Vocals; Ian Gillan (79), Bass; Roger Glover(78), Keyboards; Don Airey (76), Guitar; Simon McBride (45).
Ian Gillan was the original singer for Jesus Christ superstar. Check out his Gethsemane performance. Fantastic. Deep Purples Highway star is another banger!
For the younger ones, this is NOT playback. It's was just live sound from the show... No autotune, no pre-recording, it was not perfect but it was real music...
Those 5 guys have as much musical talent as every band put together in this century. 1964 (Beatles) to 1994 (End of Grunge) the best 30 year stretch for music for humanity. React to that era and you hardly can go wrong. As for more Deep Purple, try Highway Star from Made in Japan, official video, it is another banger from this magical band. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥
Agree in principle, however the music dark ages for me started in the early 80's. Only a few bands since then can cut it : Evanescence, Coldplay, The Warning
@@Nick_the_Gold_Bach Queensrycue, the Cult, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Halestorm, Plush, Dorothy and Liliac along with the Warning for me. @@Nick_the_Gold_Bach The ladies I talk about are bands that really Rock: Halestorm, The Warning, Plush, Dorothy, Liliac, Samantha Fish and others. Try them, you will not regret it! Rock is still alive because of them for me.
All masters at their craft, exceptional musicians. Ian's vocals are on a different level as well. Such a great band. Also check out the guitarist's next band called Rainbow. They are great as well. Also great live, check out the 1977 Munich Rainbow concert - "Mistreated" and "Catch the Rainbow" are fantastic.
Yes so pure, No auto tuning, no voice modulators or changes. Just a rare talent. something no muso has today, they only know auto tunning voice changers and electronic crap. no sole. no life.
Jon Lord plays a Hammond B3 (later C3) organ with rotating Leslie speakers. He fed the thing through a Marshall guitar amp to raise the volume to be able to compete with Ritchie Blackmore's guitar. Thanks for the reaction. Greetings from Belgium.
For some reason, the radio stations that play "classic" music, think the 80s are it, but those of us that lived it , know the late 60s to early 70s are the greatest years for music, just look at the top albums that came out 65-75, absolutely amazing and largely forgotten by the radio
Great reaction to a classic !! Ian was the star in the first "Jesus Christ Superstar" Musical production before Joining DP, and yes he has a unmistakable 1/8 note vibrato. He told his bandmates he had to stop singing this song after the 1972 "Live in Japan" Tour, because he was afraid it was damaging his voice. He still sings the song live, but a more subdued scream. Ian Paice's cymbal work is a classic too and Blackmore's guitar is legendary, and is credited with the beginnings of "Speed Metal" !!
Hi There and thank your finding Deep Purple. They, together with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin are considered the originators of what we now call "heavy metal". Enjoy.
Admit it, you're a sixties/seventies lady really aren't ya? The look on your face makes me think you've a heavy rock soul. Good on ya. I'm a seventy year old bloke loving this music as I grew up in England.
Oh yes! Deep Purple is one of the best rock bands of all time. You probably know their song "Smoke on the Water", even though they had many great hits. Thank you, I hadn't heard this song for a long time, amazing. Hey!, you followed the rhythm of this song perfectly 😊👏. I'll see you next time, take care. 👋
One of my favourites growing up and this is a great performancw. The audience had to be quiet for the recording. That is why they didn't headbang. No autotune, so you had to sing really good. Great reaction sweetheart
Sadly the keyboardist Jon Lord passed away a few years ago. But this is an epic song with great vocals & great instrumental playing....probably topping stairway to heaven ...but that's a tough one to choose between.
For me, one of the best live performances ever. I struggle to listen to music that isn't fast as hell most of the song. It's a rare song that can run as slowly as this song does for much of the run time but still keep my attention.
Great reaction, really, its very difficult to find people never heard of Deep Purple. Smoke on the water along with Hotel California were the most overplayed songs on radio
I always get a real buzz out of seeing twenty somethings reacting to the music of my late teens and early twenties. I am 71 now and still love my DP, as well as Rainbow, Boston, Led Zeppelin etc etc LOUD!
@@SwiftReactions wow! A very young 40! Welcome to the DP rabbit hole! So many great groups from the late 60s and 70s. Plenty of great songs by DP. You really should have a listen to Rainbow, formed by DP guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, try Kill the King, Stargazer and its sequel A Light in the Black. Please try Boston too, More then a Feeling was their great hit from their first album in 1976. I bought that album for this song and loved the rest of the album. Singer Bradley Delp (RIP) had an awesome voice too.
Waiting for this one. Ian Gillan vocals, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Jon Lord on the Hammond organ, Roger Glover on bass and Ian Paice on drums. It was a live recording in a TV studio, so everyone was told to be still and quiet Love the little Flight Of The Bumblebee that Jon puts into it 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 If you like that, you might want to try Inside Looking Out by Grand Funk Railroad. There is a great live one on YT.
Iron Maiden is a great band. Another much older band is King Crimson, check out the studio version of 21st Century Schizoid Man. Insane musicianship, won't disappoint.
This MK II version of Deep Purple was incredible and they are still influencing bands today. The drummer of Band-Maid, Akane Hirose, credits Deep Purple's drummer, Ian Paice, as one of her main influences and the band as one of her favorites. The organ that Jon Lord is playing is a Hammond. The B3 and C3 models were a staple of hard rock bands from that era and the Hammond sound is still used today but usually in a synthesized form rather than having to pack around a heavy Hammond and keep all of the glass vacuum tubes, complex components, moving parts, and wiring in working order.
Some suggestions from my youth 67 now would be anything by Deep purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, YES, ELP, Genisis, Jethro Tull, rolling Stones, The Animals, The Kinks, King Crimson, The Moody Blues, Tangerine dream and Hawkwind. Just for starters
Yeah there were some great bands back then, but it's not easy to find many with this much raw musical talent. For another example of their fine musicianship, listen to Lazy from their Machine Head album.
This is my favorite line up , Mark 2 , then Mark 3, then Mark 4, then Mark 1 ! Next , have you heard of Tommy Bolin ?? Tommy was in Mark 4, of Deep Purple , but he did solo stuff also !
A truly remarkable performance, one that I didn't discover until TH-cam reactors started to cover it. Before that, I really only knew 'Smoke On The Water', and more recently discovered that it was written about something that actually happened.
Funny you mention Maiden, Purple's Ian Gillan was a big influence/inspiration to Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. If I'm not mistaken. It's nice to see the classics respected, thank you for choosing awesomely!
Gracias gracias por traer a tu canal a una de las mejores bandas del mundo!!! Adoro a Deep Purple 😊. GRACIAS!! 💜💜💜💜💜
Ian Gillan, the original "Jesus Christ Superstar"... an absolute powerhouse of a vocalist :) That entire lineup were incredibly talented musicians, easily hall of famer's, each and every one of them.
Was conscripted to our armed conflict here at the South point of Africa at the time . This song meant so much to our generation and is still relevant today . Apart from the GREAT music , the message is universal .
Child In Time is a Masterpiece. It is the format of songs to come. Songs like Stairway to Heaven, Freebird and many more. Deep Purple Mark ll is the greatest collection of talent in the business.. And Mark lll is slightly behind them. Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice and Ian Gillan were off the charts. Jon Lord, Lord of the Hammond. Roger Glover is one of the greatest Producers in the business and a great Bass Player.
Really enjoyed your reaction. Well in keeping with colors, Try Pink Floyd, one of the greatest bands ever. Comfortably Numb Live Pulse 1994 is spectacular
Wonderful! When one of the most iconic live performances of all time is created in a TV studio having told the audience to sit still! Epic! There are so many tracks to enjoy from them with a few line-ups too! Make sure you don't miss the early days of Rainbow as a suggestion - especially the live tracks! Just wondering if time travel is a thing yet ........
A band of great musicians? A Flock Of Goats! The guitarist Richie Blackmore went on the form Rainbow. Since that he has gone on to play in Blackmore's Night - British/American traditional folk rock band formed in 1997
Lead singer Ian Gillian sang the part of Jesus on the original album of Jesus Christ Superstar. There is a video of him singing Gethsemane in a studio that really shows his talent.
Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are for me the 3 best and they invented hard rock, listen to "War Pig" live in Paris by Black Sabbath or "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin and you will be ready to appreciate the excellence of the genre, good listening
"I don't think I ever listened to a deep purple song". Good thing you did not only listen, but also feel this time. This isn't a song you just casually listen to. Watching the song connect with your emotions tells me that it won't let you go, just like it doesn't let any of us here go 🙂
Can’t agree with you more. Great sincere reaction! If you add more older music of this caliber and intermingle it with the current good music that you have it will help your channel grow faster. Thank you for your reaction. I subscribed.
70 years old got my 10-year-old granddaughter can 4 year old granddaughter watch this with me and then we practice the screaming he does it makes for a great time my grandkids and I have a great time yelling
You mentioned that guitar solos aren’t done like that anymore. If you haven’t listened to Lovebites yet, you might want to check them out. You’ll get 2 for the price of one guitar solos in their songs, as good as this.
You've not listened to a DP album? I remember seeing the Granada TV programme at the time. I could've seen DP at Leicester's De Montfort Hall but didn't want to go with our school music master. Sometime later I mentioned it to T2's Peter Dunton who replied 'We supported them there.' Do you know T2's It'll All Work Out in Boomland? Listen, maybe. The difference between music then and now? Then, a music of revolution done with skill, imagination and structure. Now, kids learning popular music at universities. Its untrue that 'anyone can do it'. That is an invention from the 1980s corporate education system/business. One cannot be taught composition; music has to come from a deeper place. The progressive music scene in its myriad forms was the vanguard of a cultural revolution. Listen to DP's Machine Head, Free's Fire and Water, King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King, Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left, Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die, Van der Graaf Generator's Pawn Hearts, Fairport Convention's Liege and Leaf. Great music from a changing time.
The world was full of bands and live performances like this from the late 1960's to the early 1980's. As the boy bands , ass wriglers and synthesisers took over, the rock and blues stopped......replaced by pop nursery rhymes aimed at 10 yo girls and their 70 yo grand parents. Deep Purple were one of the best live rock acts ever, but here in Australia , we could go to the local pub for a drink and witness a band this good, but never hear of them again......those that made it were mostly exceptional live , but their watered down and over produced recordings were often not as good as the live performances. Label execs and producers can do a lot of damage to a bands music in the recording process. lol
Jon Lord keyboard, the great Richie Blackmore, also from Rainbow, lead guitar, Ian Pace drums, Roger Glover bass and Ian Gillan lead vocals, and needless to say there is not a band today that can match this!!
And now you know why us "old farts" that grew up listening to music from 65 though 84'ish really don't think much of modern bands and their music!! :) .... ROCK ON BABY SWIFT. (BTW - you'll not go far wrong with Uriah Heep - th-cam.com/video/LkyiQyXGHOE/w-d-xo.html)

It was a live recording in a TV studio, so everyone was told to be still and quiet
Love the little Flight Of The Bumblebee that Jon puts into it 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
If you like that, you might want to try Inside Looking Out by Grand Funk Railroad. There is a great live one on YT.
Thanks Baz!
So glad you chose this song! Truly one of the best songs ever by a great band. 70s rock rules!
Iron Maiden is a great band. Another much older band is King Crimson, check out the studio version of 21st Century Schizoid Man. Insane musicianship, won't disappoint.
Loved it. Great in concert!
Smoke on the Water is their biggest hit. That would be a good start down the Deep Purple rabbit hole. Yeah. Peace
If you loved the musicianship of Deep Purple you will LOVE Rush and Supertramp
@@dsomerville5293 That’s an eclectic mix but a really good one.
@@nigelclinning2448 the common theme is their outstanding musicianship, out of the box songwriting and amazing audio production of their albums.
Nopp !!!
You listened the best singer in the world
Some suggestions from my youth 67 now would be anything by Deep purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, YES, ELP, Genisis, Jethro Tull, rolling Stones, The Animals, The Kinks, King Crimson, The Moody Blues, Tangerine dream and Hawkwind. Just for starters
Yeah there were some great bands back then, but it's not easy to find many with this much raw musical talent. For another example of their fine musicianship, listen to Lazy from their Machine Head album.
Pure fire. Thank you for the reaction…
This is my favorite line up , Mark 2 , then Mark 3, then Mark 4, then Mark 1 ! Next , have you heard of Tommy Bolin ?? Tommy was in Mark 4, of Deep Purple , but he did solo stuff also !
@kevinlundgren1169 Also replaced Joe Walsh in The James Gang.
A truly remarkable performance, one that I didn't discover until TH-cam reactors started to cover it. Before that, I really only knew 'Smoke On The Water', and more recently discovered that it was written about something that actually happened.
Hi Alex, that makes me happy. Thanks for letting me know. Thanks for your support.
Funny you mention Maiden, Purple's Ian Gillan was a big influence/inspiration to Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. If I'm not mistaken.
It's nice to see the classics respected, thank you for choosing awesomely!
Cheers David!
Gracias gracias por traer a tu canal a una de las mejores bandas del mundo!!!
Adoro a Deep Purple 😊.
GRACIAS!!
💜💜💜💜💜
Excellent job Always live or Video 50s threw 80s 😊
Ian Gillan, the original "Jesus Christ Superstar"... an absolute powerhouse of a vocalist :)
That entire lineup were incredibly talented musicians, easily hall of famer's, each and every one of them.
This is from when music was music and not some computerised crap with autotune. Jon Lord was brilliant on keyboards.
Pure greatness!!!!
I think I just might do that... thanks
Super!!!!!!!!
A band of great musicians? A Flock Of Goats! The guitarist Richie Blackmore went on the form Rainbow.
Since that he has gone on to play in Blackmore's Night - British/American traditional folk rock band formed in 1997
I enjoyed your reaction, It was in my teens when this came out and influenced my music taste, along with Led Zeppelin and black Sabbath, Yes…..
Dire Straits should be in that list, too;) Sultans of Swing, Telegraph Road, Tunnel of Love, mind-blowing live performances.
This riff was originally "It's a Beautiful Day" (great San Fransisco 60s band-worth checking out) instrumental piece "Bombay Calling"
Lead singer Ian Gillian sang the part of Jesus on the original album of Jesus Christ Superstar. There is a video of him singing Gethsemane in a studio that really shows his talent.
I saw them live about six times back in the 1970s.
‘Invented hard rock,” hardly that. You ignore The Who, Cream, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Blue Cheer, and most especially, The Beatles
Try highway star....
Or status quo...
Thanks. Welcome 👋
Genioooos 💜💜💜💜💜💜!!!!!
Great reaction ❤
70 years old got my 10-year-old granddaughter can 4 year old granddaughter watch this with me and then we practice the screaming he does it makes for a great time my grandkids and I have a great time yelling
I love that!
Doing their thing
yes....girl
The "secret"?
Little Stage!!!
HERE WE ARE THE "MEN"!!!
Label execs and producers can do a lot of damage to a bands music in the recording process. lol
A raw and polished live ‘70s British audience performance lol
The 70's what a time.
“The cries of WAR” 😢
They just released a new album with three of these men still in the band.
