A technique I use to measure our juvie sharks in Monterey Bay is by using the drone shadow. One way to look at it is to appreciate the behavior of the surfers as very graceful and showing no aggression...
@ConstantinDV of course humans are the top predator due to weapons. A human without a weapon vs a Great White shark is no longer the apex predator. It's lunch
@@raymondsublett3108 To be honest, weapons are to a human what teeth are to a shark, a means of survival. It's not like we are using a cheat code or something, it's simply that people are better at problem solving than sharks. That doesn't mean that the solutions we come up with are not destructive or that they are wise. It just means what it means. As a side note, it is really disturbing to see people act so carefree in the presence of danger. Learning to co-exist with a top predator (or nature in general)/ accepting the dangers of swimming in the sharks territory and actively playing with fire are 2 different things. I hope none gets hurt and that people would be come more level-headed.
I tend to disagree with the statement that paddle boarders and surfers "have no idea" there are sharks near them; if you are in the water, particularly that area, a shark is always near by. Surfers know this, we respect that fact and are aware of it every time we go out.
Honestly I shouldn’t be surprised but I am just how reckless and annoying these people are. I would have assumed the first instinct a human should have when they are in danger is to quickly get away. But social media has eroded this brain mechanism and people would rather die for a couple of 👍🏻 on a photo. These sharks could easily nip at any of these people for going after them
At some point you are going to film an unfortunate encounter that doesn't end well for the human, the shark, or both. My opinion is that it be shown. As you've said, people are now associating your drone with a shark in the water and are using it to approach the sharks rather than just be aware. Making people aware there is a shark near them is fine, but having them use your drone to approach them is not safe and that point isn't getting through despite your best effort. Respect for the shark is being lost in the number of safe encounters that we see. Nothing will bring that point home faster than seeing an encroachment turn into an encounter gone wrong.
Well if the humans want to be foolish and follow a shark let them. Its their life if they want to be gobbled up. As long as they injure no one else but themselves. Go ahead I say, be dinner for Jaws.
When I was a kid in Australia, my family were visiting a family friend who was a fisherman. I went looking for him and found him at the top of the cliffs looking through binoculars. After saying Hi, he slammed the binoculars at my chest and ran off, saying “look at the windsurfer” I look through the binoculars, and see the windsurfer, who was sitting on the board. Then I see why our fisherman friend freaked out. There was a great white shark BIGGER than his windsurfing board, under his board, but deep down. Then, I realized that it wasn’t after a meal, it just wanted some shade from the hot weather. The windsurfer had no idea this ginormous great white was below him. Then I look down at the beach and see our fisher friend yelling ( couldn’t hear him from the cliff) and waving at the wind surfer. Eventually the wind surfer came in, the ginormous shark swam away. Then as the wind surfer approached our fishing friend. I could imagine what he said to him because the guys reaction was dramatic, he dropped to the sand crying, thinking how he was lucky to escape a great white shark, along with being in shock from the ordeal. But little did he know, that the shark only wanted some shade.
Around 4:30 the shark stops moving forward it seems. observing what the people are doing. I have seen another great white video where it just stays still and look at the people on the boat from underwater. I wonder what they are thinking or making out. what is there though process like.
I grew up, swimming, and boogie boarding in these waters, completely oblivious, thank goodness, to whatever was below me. But, now that I know, I’ll enjoy the ocean from afar! However, This Is Fascinating to observe! Thank you!! 🙌
Fascinating video. Sharks are very curious. I don't understand how humans feel so safe on a paddle board, that 11-12 foot shark could so easily capsize that board.
As always this is great footage of behaviours we don't usually get to see. It'd be really great if you could team up with a shark researcher on TH-cam and breakdown some of this behaviour even further. I find the way they interact with objects so fascinating and maybe someone like Kristian Parton (Shark Bytes) could tell us what research has been done in that area.
Trevor Ketchion is a well respected spearfisherman in Australia. In one of his videos he explains (his own opinion) that a shark is a very careful animal. If it gets hurt in any way, that compromises it's ability to get food. It will not attack anything without being very certain. Smaller sharks are also more dangerous, and more likely to bite. And that sharks in clear water are a different thing to sharks in murky water, especially the bull/Zambezi shark. Great videos. Love them.
Love watching your videos. Do you ever film the reaction of talking to any of the people that were close to the shark in the water? I’d love to see their reactions after the fact.
Thank you for the work & education you provide. It's so sad to see plastic & garbage in the ocean😢. We must be aware of leaving trash around when we go to the beaches.
Thank you for another spectacular video. I believe that your videos helps people understand sharks for what they are: Magnificient animals with an important place in our ecosystem, and that the risk of being attacked by one is very, very low.
Nice video thanks. Surface viz looks like it was from footage back in March? Dove the SM breakwater yesterday n got some invert. footage for my marine bio class. Very few pelagics just garibaldi. Plenty of smaller rays in surf zone for juvenile consumption. Worst viz in months post rain runoff brings nitrogen loads and spikes bacteria levels as well.
So I now know that when I see a drone, to get my camera out bc there is a shark nearby. Don't worry, I won't be in the water. I will be in a big axx boat bc I don't swim in the ocean. 😂😂😂 It's very commendable that you try to warn people with your drone.
what is scary about those people chasing the sharks, is sharks have a way to deal with territorial threats to them, its called biting. while it's clear those sharks have no real interest in eating those paddleboarders one of those people is going to tick off the wrong shark and get a bit for his trouble. granted they usually don't get particularly territorial unless they're hunting dinner. but people acting like that only increases the chances.
I found this fascinating. I'm sure your research will be very rewarding and very Interesting. I'm certain it will also be very beneficial for all who use the ocean too.
I don't know why, but that giant great white just floating in the same spot, facing those two woman on paddle boards freaks me out. If I knew I was being spied on by a great white, I'd pee myself.
Big fan here. It would be nice to know what to do, I know that you've said before its better to leave them be and give them space, but with these video and the risk a big shark represents, it begs the question: should you slowly but surely move away? And would there be a way for you to incorporate maybe a tiny siren that lets people know "danger - stay away". I'm going to look for something super light weight that may help. A flashing led and micro speaker with high output that doesn't intervene with your drone and drain its battery to much. IDK... I think you used to have a device that alerted people, what happened with that implementation?
Thank you for your fascinating videos and commentary, so informative. I’m quite grateful that you respect and appreciate these amazing creatures. I wish all humans would!
I've noticed the younger sharks tend to stay at the 'tail end' of the larger sharks when they interact with each other--not too surprising as a favorite food item for larger sub adult white sharks is smaller sharks.
QUESTION: @ 5:15 on - there is a white shark with something behind it's main fin on the top... what is that? Is that a tag for like GPS for researchers or is that a lure that is hooked in the shark?
So let me get this straight. The first woman we see is sunbathing on the front of their paddle board and boyfriend does not notify her. Several options I once had a very flat ocean day in the Gulf of Mexico I took one of those low profile open sea kayaks out. About 200 feet from shore I spot two large hammerheads swimming about 5 feet underneath me. Circling. Let’s just say I showed up quickly back at the rental spot and they smiled “did the sharks scare you”
I love your work and am a massive shark enthusiast and have dived with great whites and Bulls, As much as I love them I am fully aware of how devastating they can be in the wrong Circumstances. Serious question what are you going to do once the inevitable fatal attack occurs in 1 of your drone Filmings?
@Arthur Brumagem I don't wish this to happen nor do I expect such Footage to be Uploaded but rather an acknowledgement from him In that filming thousands of interactions Will ultimately lead to an attack on camera

Maybe it’s already happened he just wouldn’t share it maybe out of respect or any reason idk
The most adorable thing is watching juveniles just investigating things. It feels like watching a toddler notice the sky is blue.
What I appreciate about your videos is how you show human interactions and how they can affect marine life!
These sharks could easily nip at any of these people for going after them
yep, surfers are normally most respectful and aware of their surroundings cos they spend so much time in the water. Sharks can come and go in seconds.
Sharks are catching on knowing that if they see the drone, some people should arrive soon :)
5:41 Is he playing with the object?.
That's so cute, I love sharks. 🦈 ☺👍
So this will happen.
If they choose to approach a massive fucking shark and get hurt then that’s their fault not his let’s be honest
Im getting a drone to film attacks in florida def an anti shark channel Im startinh
Q
Well if the humans want to be foolish and follow a shark let them. Its their life if they want to be gobbled up. As long as they injure no one else but themselves. Go ahead I say, be dinner for Jaws.
Appreciate drones showing areas to avoid!
The monster fish actually wanted some meat on a cracker. Fisherman friend was right to be alarmed.
"Then, I realized that it wasn’t after a meal, it just wanted some shade from the hot weather." I'm sure it was sweltering in the water.
Did everyone start clapping at some point?
@@Ebmoclas19 No one else was around at the time.
@@alfredstimoli2590 All fish look for shade when it’s over 100 degrees.
Thank you!! 🙌
Such good images. Thanks for your videos. I normally avoid shark clips as not to spook myself out of the water. But I always watch your stuff.
Fascinating video. Sharks are very curious. I don't understand how humans feel so safe on a paddle board, that 11-12 foot shark could so easily capsize that board.
sharks are smart.... they know which end is front and rear.... and always investigates from rear.... smart move indeed.
I love looking at the beauty of the ocean... From the safety of my condo.
Exactly!!!
Great footage of these beautiful creatures.🦈
You can totally not worry about me chasing your drones lol
Better than anything I’ve ever watched during Shark Week
As always this is great footage of behaviours we don't usually get to see.
It'd be really great if you could team up with a shark researcher on TH-cam and breakdown some of this behaviour even further. I find the way they interact with objects so fascinating and maybe someone like Kristian Parton (Shark Bytes) could tell us what research has been done in that area.
The juvenile shark was stoked that it FINALLY came across a.....FRISBEE !!!🥏 🤣🤣
Fascinating, there are some big WS here locally. Thanks 🦈🦈🦈🦈
Great footage, as always
Love it. Who knew drones were the future of shark observation and potential shark warning system. Brilliant. Liked and subbed....
Australia is using them at many more swimming beaches now !! 👍
people using your drone to chase sharks, good grief, let the sharks live their natural lives
After seeing dozens of whites from my paddle board, let me assure you, they are top of the food chain and could not care less about your presence.
Always such quality content 🦈
Loved the intro scene on this video
Great video as always!
Yeah but the shark was VERY HAPPY about the FRISBEE !!!🥏 Woohoo 👍🤣🤣
Beautiful footage as always!
Thank you
These creatures are very sophisticated and it’s great to learn about them.
the sharks’ interaction with the plate is so adorable to me 😂
Great work! Thanks for sharing your creations with us!
Thank you for another spectacular video. I believe that your videos helps people understand sharks for what they are: Magnificient animals with an important place in our ecosystem, and that the risk of being attacked by one is very, very low.
So many comments so little sense.....thank you...common sense is so uncommon these days
Thanks! This was shot in the last couple of weeks.
The bird when saw the shark underwater. ( Run ) 🏃🏃🏃🏃 😂😂
Sharks are fascinating to watch but I really loved listening to the music in the background it felt calmer
I totally agree, makes perfect sense as well.
I found this fascinating.
I'm sure your research will be very rewarding and very Interesting.
I'm certain it will also be very beneficial for all who use the ocean too.
Thank you so very much I grew up in Hermosa and sadly far from now… what a beautiful video
The people using the drone to get closer to getting bit by a shark are the reason darwinism exists.
I don't know why, but that giant great white just floating in the same spot, facing those two woman on paddle boards freaks me out. If I knew I was being spied on by a great white, I'd pee myself.
Dude your videos and narration/voice make for such relaxing enjoyable viewing!
After deep sea fishing, I realized how hostile the ocean is. Cast out some meat and within seconds, something was chewing on it
What an amazingly beautiful animal... not humans, the sharks lol
Had to laugh at the two women on the paddle boards waving the drone away, ' oh don't look at me you perv'.
pretty sure that if any of those idiots get hurt, other idiots will blame it on you
bird at 6.27 was like....this looks like a good place to dive for fish....NO NO NO heeeeellll no
Put a Banner on your Drone: "Shark! Keep your f**kin Distance!" :-)
I love your channel! Beautiful! And I can tell you have a deep love and respect for sharks!
Thank you!
I love your channel! The visuals are stunning and the music is spot on!
I love sharks and I love your channel. I trully enjoy your vids. Keep doing what you do!
Love from Spain! :)
Thank you for your fascinating videos and commentary, so informative. I’m quite grateful that you respect and appreciate these amazing creatures. I wish all humans would!
Beautiful creatures, amazing footage 🙏
I've noticed the younger sharks tend to stay at the 'tail end' of the larger sharks when they interact with each other--not too surprising as a favorite food item for larger sub adult white sharks is smaller sharks.
Great video!
QUESTION: @ 5:15 on - there is a white shark with something behind it's main fin on the top... what is that? Is that a tag for like GPS for researchers or is that a lure that is hooked in the shark?
Yeah, it's a tag. Many juveniles where Carlos films are tagged
That bird literally ran on the water!!! He wanted NO part of that sharks shenanigans lol. 😅
I enjoy watching your videos, can't get enough. hanks!🌴😎🌴
When the seabird dived and was like NOPE im outta here :D
So let me get this straight. The first woman we see is sunbathing on the front of their paddle board and boyfriend does not notify her. Several options
I once had a very flat ocean day in the Gulf of Mexico
I took one of those low profile open sea kayaks out.
He won’t show it as it will dispel the belief that these sharks are harmless to humans.
Make money off the millions of clicks it will garner!! Humans + sharks = clicks
@Arthur Brumagem I don't wish this to happen nor do I expect such Footage to be Uploaded but rather an acknowledgement from him In that filming thousands of interactions Will ultimately lead to an attack on camera
I am a swimmer and wondered about your thoughts on swimmers off the SoCal coast..particularly those of us who swim from the Cove in La Jolla to the Scripps Pier.
Your videos are so relaxing.
beautiful footage thoughh wondering do the sharks ever notice or respond to the drone or noise it makes
