He is like a life guard in the video so it's as if he fell in love with a local who comes to the pool. In the song it says "This isn't what I signed up for." As if to say that he signed up for the community, not for the sole purpose to fall in love. The dissolving colors, to me, represent the love that he bottles up inside of himself, maybe the colors presenting themselves are his true feelings for this person presenting themselves.

I THINK the video (with the song) tells about how it feels to fall in love. It’s frustrating, confusing, overwhelming, but at the same time it was exciting, colorful (?), and can lift you up. At the start of the video the man probably felt confused by his feeling, but by the end of the video he just fell head over heels in love :v lol

Here’s my long winded theory about the song + video! I think he’s going through a phase of falling in love when he didn’t want to or didn’t know he would and how he feels after he does. here’s why I think this. In the beginning of the video he walks in and sits on the diving board, he doesn’t jump right in or worry about the water and the pool is the love, he doesn’t dive right into it. Then the song begins he throws little petals in the water, petals that later form the swimmers which fits in later in the video. He stares at the petals for a moment and tilts to the water almost like he didn’t even know he was falling in the pool sort of like when you fall in love, you don’t know until it hits you like that water hit him. Like the lyrics he says in a pool full of your love. he ends up sinking to the bottom of the pool almost as if he’s taking everything in the petals are like his emotions and he looks up at the petals and looks like he’s realized what’s happening and tries to come up for air. When he comes back up for air the petals are swimmers. They’re like his emotions that he earlier threw in the pool, they pull him around in the pool or the love and he tries to come up for air constantly. Towards the middle the swimmers close in on him as he looks shocked as they grab him to throw him up. While he’s up in the air he looks scared or unsure and feels like everything is moving slowly until he falls just like that and that’s when he officially falls all the way. After he’s fallen the notes of the song just slow down and he dissolves like when you’re in love you just feel like you’re literally dissolving. I think the lyrics “and this isn’t what I wanted” also shows how it wasn’t his intention to fall but in the end he wants to be.
Finally got to this! Breathtaking. Heart stopped when he got thrown in the air and then when he dropped back in. Agree with Cory K on this being about him being messed with. I thought he was ripping pieces of the paper into the pool but I guess they dropped in like flower petals like "She loves me, she loves me not..." and then he kinda gets a weird kind of confirmation when he goes up for air and the petals turn into those swimmers (which is perfect btw) but then they drag him down and throw him up so... it's like when your crush turns out to like you back which feels awesome, but then is weird about being in a relationship (them dancing around him instead of engaging), which makes you feel insecure af, and the combination of those emotions almost makes you lose yourself/forget who you are and why you even like yourself. I was worried about the dude when he turned into a bunch of smoke, that it represented his death, but maybe that's what it's about... losing yourself for a minute. Glad he was ok. For how much I've listened to this song I haven't ever looked up the lyrics, besides knowing most of the chorus. I might have a different idea after I read the lyrics but this is what I got out of it from watching the video and overlaying my own feels and experiences etc
*im not 100% sure on this but for those who are confused about the video clip* The man is at first hesitant to get into the pool, which represents love he then drops into the pool, meaning that he’s fallen in love. As the song says, “I just wanted you to watch me dissolve, slowly, *in a pool full of your love* “. When he comes back above the water and sees the women around him, this shows that he’s trapped in love and cant escape easily. He’s then dragged under - which could mean suffocating or hectic love. He’s then spat out of the water meaning he could have been left alone by love - but only momentarily as he then falls back into the pool or “love”. When he dissolves and comes back up - this could be him melting for someone / finding his true love as we see him in the end, by himself fairly comfortably floating in the water, catching his breath. Like this true love he’s found is like a fresh breath of air or he’s finally able to breathe from having had to deal with suffocating or troublesome past relationships. The song / video is basically saying that love is rough until you find the right one. *again, I’m not 100% sure if this is correct, but this is what I picked up from the visuals and words together*
Maybe when he isn't "dissolving" she isn't ready for him but he is still as you said trapped in love. I get this from the "poolside kicking in dirt kicking in sand" and when he finally gets to dissolve she finds out that she is ready for him to get "mixed in" with her pool of love. Thats just my thought on it other than that your interpretation is good. 👍

I think he’s going through a phase of falling in love when he didn’t want to or didn’t know he would and how he feels after he does. here’s why I think this. In the beginning of the video he walks in and sits on the diving board, he doesn’t jump right in or worry about the water and the pool is the love, he doesn’t dive right into it. Then the song begins he throws little petals in the water, petals that later form the swimmers which fits in later in the video. He stares at the petals for a moment and tilts to the water almost like he didn’t even know he was falling in the pool sort of like when you fall in love, you don’t know until it hits you like that water hit him. Like the lyrics he says in a pool full of your love. he ends up sinking to the bottom of the pool almost as if he’s taking everything in the petals are like his emotions and he looks up at the petals and looks like he’s realized what’s happening and tries to come up for air. When he comes back up for air the petals are swimmers. They’re like his emotions that he earlier threw in the pool, they pull him around in the pool or the love and he tries to come up for air constantly. Towards the middle the swimmers close in on him as he looks shocked as they grab him to throw him up. While he’s up in the air he looks scared or unsure and feels like everything is moving slowly until he falls just like that and that’s when he officially falls all the way. After he’s fallen the notes of the song just slow down and he dissolves like when you’re in love you just feel like you’re literally dissolving. I think the lyrics “and this isn’t what I wanted” also shows how it wasn’t his intention to fall but in the end he wants to be.
Finally got to this! Breathtaking. Heart stopped when he got thrown in the air and then when he dropped back in. Agree with Cory K on this being about him being messed with.
I thought he was ripping pieces of the paper into the pool but I guess they dropped in like flower petals like "She loves me, she loves me not..." and then he kinda gets a weird kind of confirmation when he goes up for air and the petals turn into those swimmers (which is perfect btw) but then they drag him down and throw him up so... it's like when your crush turns out to like you back which feels awesome, but then is weird about being in a relationship (them dancing around him instead of engaging), which makes you feel insecure af, and the combination of those emotions almost makes you lose yourself/forget who you are and why you even like yourself. I was worried about the dude when he turned into a bunch of smoke, that it represented his death, but maybe that's what it's about... losing yourself for a minute. Glad he was ok.
For how much I've listened to this song I haven't ever looked up the lyrics, besides knowing most of the chorus. I might have a different idea after I read the lyrics but this is what I got out of it from watching the video and overlaying my own feels and experiences etc

The man is at first hesitant to get into the pool, which represents love
he then drops into the pool, meaning that he’s fallen in love. As the song says, “I just wanted you to watch me dissolve, slowly, *in a pool full of your love* “.
When he comes back above the water and sees the women around him, this shows that he’s trapped in love and cant escape easily. He’s then dragged under - which could mean suffocating or hectic love.
He’s then spat out of the water meaning he could have been left alone by love - but only momentarily as he then falls back into the pool or “love”.
When he dissolves and comes back up - this could be him melting for someone / finding his true love as we see him in the end, by himself fairly comfortably floating in the water, catching his breath. Like this true love he’s found is like a fresh breath of air or he’s finally able to breathe from having had to deal with suffocating or troublesome past relationships.
The song / video is basically saying that love is rough until you find the right one.

Maybe when he isn't "dissolving" she isn't ready for him but he is still as you said trapped in love. I get this from the "poolside kicking in dirt kicking in sand" and when he finally gets to dissolve she finds out that she is ready for him to get "mixed in" with her pool of love. Thats just my thought on it other than that your interpretation is good. 👍
