Thank you so much, I'll keep waiting for other recordings of her. Yes, the wobble and the bad diction were allways there, but in the spinto repertoire she was a good singer neverthless. She had a big and warm voice that she projected in a natural manner, although not allways very refined in modulation. She sang 28 performances at the MET (1979-1984), starting as second cast, but as years went on she became a star, especially during her relationship with conductor Giuseppe Patané.
i wonder where are the galina savovas of today?i heard her many times at the met in the 80s!! speciallly in gioconda!!a force of nature!!warm voice!!. this type of voices are dessapearing from the opera stages!!is alarming the spintos and dramatics like her, dimitrova, marton, statieva!! are no longer on the opera stages anymore!!allarmi!!allarmi!!
Yes, it's alarming. Where are the Savovas of today? I think the problem is in the singing schools or in the high pitch that instruments are tuned nowadays to make the sound brighter but resulting in a stress for the voices.
A good performance by Galina Savova, I heard her many times in the 80's in Lisbon and abroad. I knew she had this role in her repertoire but I hadn't heard her yet. The high notes still didn't sound too much covered as they became some years later. I really liked her voice despite a bit wobble. Thanks for adding this wonderful performance and please keep us updated if you have other recordings of her. I was told she retired and lives currently in Darmstadt (Germany).
