Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I had the book for a bit. Been learning oil painting but I had to finally humble myself about really observing the subject vs simply drawing what I "think" I see. I recently started utilizing the same book. Though I enjoy the style I have developed over the years of drawing, I really want to be able to capture what I see everytime (not hope I get it) and then apply my own style.

The book itself is a little expensive for me but it seems worth it by the way you describe and categorize the techniques in them.

The plates are on the public domain, so I’d start studying them and seeing some practical guide videos on TH-cam.

Tbh I see it more as an art education discussion than a instructional book. That said it definitely gives guidelines to what to focus on your drawings, it’s just not a step by step thing.
