  • The Crosscut Sawyer - USDA Forest Service 2007 - Publication 0723-2D02-MTDC - Missoula Technology Development Center. Crosscut saws are experiencing a revival not only in designated wilderness areas but in other backcountry settings. These traditional tools offer a safe and effective way to fell trees and buck logs when they are properly used and maintained. The 43-minute "Crosscut Sawyer" DVD shows experienced sawyers sizing up trees, evaluating situations, making safe sawing decisions, and pointing out common mistakes that occur during sawing operations. This DVD is a companion to the Forest Service "Chain Saw and Crosscut Saw Training Course." For Forest Service saw certification, field testing is also required.

Dolly Chapman is a total sawyering lumberjill legend! Always loved her style and grit. Wish I could take her sawyering class-- maybe someday I'll have time for that.

Gone at 49!!!! What a shame. That's to damn young but I have a feeling Eric left a piece of who He was behind for his friends to share with others. That's how you have honored His memory. A great video, as I am an absolute novice, I'll bookmark the video for review and be careful while I hone my crosscut skills. Thank You & Regards JimmyMorrocco

Nice job, especially those slow motion close ups showing what is happening as forces compress or pull apart the wood fibers.

these old school videos trip me out. 21st century youtube instructional videos speak directly to the camera and these old videos use conversation with another person on video as the instruction. "it looks like we need a complex cut," says speaker one. "okay," says speaker two. "and there's a widow maker up there," says speaker one. "okay," says speaker two.

What I don't understand about my two man saw is why I can't actually saw further than 2 - 3 inches into the tree. The thing is two flimsy and really hard to pull. Does anybody have some suggestions on how to fix the problem.

I think the tree at 26:40 deserves a brace and bit and a stick of dynamite.
    For safety purposes.

Thank you for a great video, I'm sharpening up my great grandfather's old saws to use at boy scout camp this weekend. What are you using for a lubricant when you are bucking logs?
    Thank you,

Kirk Rogers I apologize. I guess I was just sick of seeing these comments on quality videos that I enjoy. Sometimes I respond without considering things. Mostly I removed them to prevent further trouble and because I realized that they didn't help anything.
