Custodians working as civil servants are usually paid quite decently, actually. In CA its around $20 an hour at entry level, often with quite generous health benefits and retirement plans. Lots of people don't realize it's really not a bad job at all. It varies by location, of course, but as a near entry level job (6 mo experience), with no college education, it's pretty darn great.

Its easy money specially when you have great work ethics. You have to like the the job. Its a real satisfying job at the end of the day.
