Hey I have a question what should I study first for my cdl permit? I’m confused I don’t know if I’m studying for test that I won’t need . . Should I only study the general knowledge. I need the steps to what should I be studying and what should I learn for the cdl permit I’m in Philadelphia thank Barry
Hi zaysick27. It depends on what class of CDL you want: Class A, Class B, or Class C. It also depends on the type of work that you want to do. For example, I have a Class B CDL which I use to drive a school bus. First, you'll need a MEC (Medical Examiner's Certificate,) which certifies that you're fit to drive a CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle.) No matter what, you need to pass the General Knowledge Exam. For school bus, you'll also need to pass the School Bus Endorsement Exam and the Passenger Endorsement Exam. Then after passing the written exams, you'll need to pass the Skills Exams which consists of the Vehicle Inspection Exam, Basic Vehicle Control Exam, and the On-road Driving Exam. Don't forget that you'll need to pass a Vision Exam at the DMV. Take a look at the following video for more detailed information about what you should study: th-cam.com/video/bkvnTklnVHY/w-d-xo.html Good luck, and thanks for watching my videos.
I would give the prospective company a call and ask them what they require. There are a few trucking companies out there that will train you. But for starters, if I were you, I would start of by getting my MEC, then take my General Knowledge exam, Air Brakes exam, and Combos exam. Check out th-cam.com/video/F4uAT-CRLio/w-d-xo.html
Barry Branton is the general knowledge exam hard? I know I have to take the air breaks test but for some reason I'm not worried about it altho everyone say it's the hardest of the 3.
Hi Barry, just wanna say THANKS for all the helpful videos. I got my learners permit class A yesterday. Your videos contributed to my success like 60%. God bless u
Hi sir bc. That's great news! Thanks for sharing that information with me. I really appreciate it. I'm happy that I could be of service to your cause. Your success is my success, and with that, I proclaim, "Congratulations to you on your success! And, may the Most High richly bless you, too!"
I take my CLASS B test on thursday. been watching all of your vids. i feel very confident and i still have a good 4 days to study. thanks bud. I WILL PASS
Hey Barry thanks for everything I got my CD in the mail Friday and I have just been studying and forgot to thank you so thanks again you've been really helpful
Hello Barry. I think these videos are great. I took the test 3 times already and got overwhelmed. I just discovered your videos and will use them with the book. I keep over thinking the test. I am scheduled to retake the test next week. Crossing my fingers.
Thanks, Leslie. You practice your result. In other words, to be successful in your chosen endeavor, you must invest your time and effort toward your goal until the results you achieve are both positive and automatic. May I suggest you start off by watching this CDL General Knowledge Exam Series: th-cam.com/video/J5o9ogeFKac/w-d-xo.html I have received a lot of positive feedback on it from my subscribers.
Leslie Bryant Hi Leslie! Same happened to me, but I made the mistake of asking the wrong people questions instead of referring to the study guide.....I was only prepared for the 'S' endorsement! Two questions in on the GK, and I went up to the counter insisting they gave me the wrong test 😂 I'm going again on Tuesday! Good luck to you.....please update us
I just want to say thank you Barry for going over the question / answer study giude of the CDL Knowledge study / prep book. I am searching for a study giude to get my A drivers license.
Hi Laura. Wouldn't that be your state's CDL manual? I have a link to it if you need it. By the way, if subscribed to my channel, I have a message for you: th-cam.com/video/UgJUBK24HgU/w-d-xo.html
Watching This Video So I Can Pass CDL A Because I Enjoyed Your Video, I'm 20 Years Old And I Wanted Get Job Those Public Transit Bus So That Much Of Experience Of Driving!!!
Hi Detroit 313: For a public transit bus, I suggest you apply for the job first, then once hired, I believe all you will need is the CDL B (Air Brakes). Get your MEC (Medical Examiner's Certificate) first, then make sure you can pass your eye exam at the DMV, and then study for and take the (1) general knowledge exam, the (2) passenger endorsement exam, the (3) air brakes endorsement exam, then you'll have your CLP (Commercial Learner Permit), then 14 days later, study for and pass your pre-trip (air brakes) exam, your driving skills exam, and your road test. You'll need to use the transit bus company's bus to test. Thanks for watching my videos. Check out these videos for studying for the General Knowledge exam: th-cam.com/video/J5o9ogeFKac/w-d-xo.html
It's my pleasure. Thank you for watching my video, and thank you for commenting. I will be uploading a new video later tonight. It will be scheduled to be released tomorrow at noon Eastern Standard Time.
Dream Skate. I know the feeling. For me, a while back I decided to study how to study and how to take tests. There are many areas that I need to work on, but I'm sure that you will be successful with what you want to accomplish. You might consider watch this video, entitled, Fastest & Easiest Way To Get Your CDL at th-cam.com/video/_mCZse4GjdI/w-d-xo.html
My pleasure, Dream Skate, and thanks for watching my videos. I know you're going to pass your exams just fine. If you don't have a manual yet, click on this link for your state's CDL manual: drive.google.com/file/d/0B4ayFJQLMK-DeWltanNJUWU5aXc/view
Your success is determined by you, though I do recommend that you get a good night's sleep, eat a light breakfast, carefully read each question and be sure you understand what the question is asking you before you answer, and stick with your first answer, in other words, don't go back and change your answers. Statistics show that the first answer is usually the best answer. And, good luck, though I doubt you'll need it. Let us know how you do. Thanks.
If you can watch all of my videos, then I believe that you're sure to pass at some level. The question is can you watch all of my videos? th-cam.com/video/dR-8oXz1pDU/w-d-xo.html
Hi Barry. This is Darryl. I passed the general knowledge test thanks for the video again. I have to retake the air brakes test again.Could you upload the air brakes test for Georgia. Thanks again.
Hi Darryl. That great news. Congratulations on passing the CDL General Knowledge exam. Here's that link you requested: th-cam.com/video/FEv7ZVWAYVo/w-d-xo.html
Some questions on the GK test. Aggressive driving is what? The act of operating a motor vehicle in a selfish, bold or pushy manner, without regard for the right or safety of others. Istractor/ trailer is considered what? GCWR, GVWR GVW What are escape ramps? How do you know if your tractor/ trailer have yellow ABS? Where to place your triangles on a curve and where to place your triangle on a devided hwy? exhaust system defect/ exhaust system can let poison in the cab or sleeper berth Broken leaf is 1/4 will be put out of service. The low beams can be used in the day??? Those are some questions and answers i remembered on the GK. tes
Let me guess. Did you take your test in Florida? Section 2.10.1 on Page 2-23. See www.flhsmv.gov/handbooks/EnglishCDLHandbook.pdf I quote, "Aggressive driving is the act of operating a motor vehicle in a selfish, bold, or pushy manner, without regard for the rights or safety of others."
Barry Branton is this for all states I live in New York would this help out and are the test computerized in all states or just this help out on all state test??
Well I am about to head to the DMV now to take the combination vehicle test portion of the CDL permit. Wish me luck and I was hoping you could resend me the link to the motivation video/ key for success?
It's bad luck to wish someone good luck before a performance, and that's all taking a test is. It's just a performance. It's like a dance that you do for the examiners, nothing more. So, instead, it's tradition to say, "Break a leg." You'll do just fine; I'm sure. I have two motivation programs for you, which are: (1) The New Twelve Step Program - Fulfill Your Intention th-cam.com/video/T0um7XlDqq8/w-d-xo.html and (2) The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel th-cam.com/video/41fWJbjqMu0/w-d-xo.html Both of them have helped me in some way to get me to where I am now, so believe in yourself, my friend.
Hey Barry thanks for the video it was really helpful I liked and subscribed any other tips I live in Denver Colorado I'm trying to get my CDL Class A if you have any other videos please let me know thanks.
Hi Barry I just want to say thank you for all your hard work ! I have subscribed to your channel and have told my friends of your hard work and great videos. I live in California and need to get my Class B CDL because am going to be a public bus diver. I apologize if this is a redundant question I need to pass the General knowledge part 50 question they say you can only miss three ! Do you any videos on this or any good resources for passing the General knowledge part 50 question part of the test once again if you have answered this question i do I do apologize I just have no where else that's legitimate for correct answers Thank you again Greg .
Hi Gregg. Thanks for watching my videos. My suggestion is if you haven't already obtained your MEC, you might want to get that first. So, you're going for a Class B CDL license. If you're going to be driving a public bus, I believe that you'll need to pass your GK exam, your passenger endorsement exam, and you're air brakes endorsement. I recommend you also obtain your CA CDL manual at www.dmv.ca.gov/web/eng_pdf/comlhdbk.pdf and review Figure 1.2 on Page 1-10 for what sections to study. I believe that you'll need to study Sections 1, 2, 3, 11, 12, and 13, which covers the general knowledge exam, then study Sections 2, 4, 11, 12, and 13, which covers the passenger endorsement exam, then study Section 5, which covers the air brakes endorsement exam, and then for good measure I would also study Sections 10, 11, 12, and 13, which covers the school bus endorsement exam; that way, if you don't get the public bus driver job, you can fall back on being a school bus driver. (Please don't knock it. It's actually a pretty good gig. In fact, that's the way I went, and the company paid for all my training.) Disclaimer: Watching my videos is not intended as a replacement for studying the CDL manual of your state. I recommend studying the CDL manual in depth.) Good luck to you, Gregg. I hope you pass, and please let us know how you do. Take care.
Thanks, Greg. I'll try. Keep in touch, and please let us know how you do. Maybe after you take the GK exam, you could tell us about a question you encountered on the exam.
Congratulations on your decision to obtain your CDL. It really depends on what you want to do, that is, the kind of driving you intend to do. I obtained my CDL for driving a school bus, which required I obtain a Class B CDL with a Passenger and School Bus Endorsement. I wasn't required to obtain the Air Brakes Endorsement because my company only uses hydraulic brakes for the school buses. So depending on what you want to do, I would suggest taking a look at Fig. 1.2 on page 5 of the Illinois CDL manual at www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/dsd_cdl10.pdf Review the sections that are applicable to the class of CDL and the endorsements that you wish to obtain. The other suggestion is read the questions carefully and think about what they're asking you before you put down your answer. Be sure to make sure your answer is locked in (into the software that the DMV is using) before going to the next question, and finally, stick with the first answer that you give. I've heard that stats tend to show that test takers who go back to old questions that they already answered and then re-think their answers and then make changes usually do worse. Get a good night sleep, don't eat a big breakfast, and good luck to you.
Jeremy Pontanini ....do we take both the general knowledge and air brakes test the same day, or can we choose to take the knowledge test one day than the air brake test the next????
I took them all on the same day, mainly, because I didn't want to go to the DMV more than one time to take all the so-called written exams that I was required test for as a condition of my employment. With that being said, I advise that you do what works best for you. If all you want to take is one test per day or whatever, then I suggest you do that, if there isn't any reason to do otherwise, which you think might be a problem for you down the road. My company wouldn't start training my until I passed the three written exams that I told you about and had received my Commercial Learner Permit or CLP.
Thanks, Lou. I'm glad you like them. I'm currently working on a new CDL video to cover Section 1 of the model CDL manual, which was commissioned by the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.) goo.gl/FfkAAp However, if you would like to learn more about your CDL manual, consider taking a look at a video I did about it at th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.htmlm38s I discuss how the CDL manual is (usually) made up of two parts. To find the CDL manual of your state, look in the description of that video for a link to all 50 states. Thanks for watching my videos, and congratulations on your decision to obtain your CDL.
You're welcome, and thanks for watching my videos. Please review the following video for the answer to your question: th-cam.com/video/bkvnTklnVHY/w-d-xo.htmlm59s
I don't know if this is true in every case, but for the most part, I believe you have 90 minutes to take the 50 question General Knowledge exam for your CLP. Source: dmv.dc.gov/service/knowledge-test
Hey Barry is your 2017 CDL General Knowledge Exam Prep 50 Q&A video much different from The 2018 CDL GENERAL KNOWLEDGE EXAM 100 PRACTICE STUDY? Also is it much different in the state of TEXAS? I'm preparing for it now and a little bit scared. I'll be taking it for this new job with the CITY OF DALLAS and I need my class B CDL license.
Barry are all CDL General Knowledge Test about the same from state to state 'ie is Texas CDL test the same as Ohio or Colorado? The 2017 version had 50 questions and I noticed the 2018 had 100 PRACTICE STUDY. Please Help!
General, most states have 50 questions; however, I believe some could have more. If I were you, I would call your local DMV office to find out. There might be minor differences with respect to state regulations, but the core material is all based off the same content, that being produced by the AAMVA, which was contracted by the FMCSA, which is a federal agency. With the exception of Virginia's CDL manual, all the other state manuals' content is basically the same, with the above state differences in regulations which I already mentioned in the third sentence above.
I have been studying for my Cdl to obtain my permit through the dmv process, but at this point I am kind of clueless as what steps to take once I get to the skills test part!!...I am unsure of how will I prepare or practice in order to to ace my skills part! Can I accomplish by myself or do I need a person who or instructor during practice? I thought I had it all figured out and now I'm filled with alot of questions on the skills part!😪
First, take knowledge exams, which would be your written general knowledge exam and whatever written endorsement exams you would need for the job you will be doing. For instance, as a school bus driver, you will need to take the general knowledge exam, the passenger endorsement exam, and the school bus endorsement exam. See Figure 1.2 of your state's CDL manual. The skills tests are the last thing you test for, and you will perform those tests in front of an "DMV" examiner with your CMV (commercial motor vehicle). Usually, if you are working for a school bus company, they will provide you with a CMV (school bus) to perform your skills test on. See Section 1 of your CDL manual for more info on what those skills tests are. You will also need your MEC. See my video on MEC: th-cam.com/video/M_9sYubsYE0/w-d-xo.html
Hello Barry, Do these questions apply to the New York CDL test questions or are the questions universal to all the 50 states? I am asking you because I have studied many sources including the DMV CDL book, CDL Examination book by REA, Bumper to Bumper, and online test banks as well. I just want to pass on the first shot and start training. Thank you for your guidance. If you can recommend other study guides or videos, please let me know. Enjoy your week. John
Indeed, John. Thank you. Please check out this video in reference to your question: th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.htmlm37s and please refer to the description for links to the various state CDL manuals.
Hey Barry ! What's steps do I need to get my cdl class A license in Delaware and also does your questions and answers videos is also for someone like myself who's lives in Delaware !
Delaware is based on the federal CDL template. Notice that they're basically the same CDL manual: Download Delaware CDL Manual: www.dmv.de.gov/forms/driver_serv_forms/pdfs/cdl_manual.pdf?120815 Download: CDL (federal template) Manual: goo.gl/FfkAAp
"Check the tire mounting and air pressure. Inspect the tires every two hours or every 100 miles when driving in very hot weather." According to 2.14.1 - Vehicle Checks (Tires) on Page 2-29 of the Montana CDL Manual media.dojmt.gov/wp-content/uploads/Montana-CDL-Manual-Dec-2015.pdf
+catherine lay nj book saying that inspect everything cargo, tires, etc etc. at every stop at 3hrs or 150miles to cool the tires if it's hot to the touch incase of tire failure.
NEWS FLASH : The link at www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Commercial/CDL_Manual.pdf doesn't work anymore, but I found a new link at driving-tests.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NJ_CDL_Manual_15.pdf for "2.14.1-Vehicle Checks. Do a normal vehicle inspection, but pay special attention to the following items. Tires.- Check the tire mounting and air pressure. Inspect the tires every two hours or every 100 miles when driving in very hot weather. Air pressure increases with temperature. Do not let air out or the pressure will be too low when the tires cool off. If a tire is too hot to touch, remain stopped until the tire cools off. Otherwise the tire may blow out or catch fire." Please see Page 2-29 of the NJ CDL Manual at driving-tests.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NJ_CDL_Manual_15.pdf
Do you know how many times you can take the CDL written test if you fail? I am so scared to take it! If I pass then what is the next step? This is for school bus... Thank you Barry
That's what I did, that is, start out as a school bus driver. Being scared and excited at the same time, it's an amazing feeling. I would call up your local DMV and ask them. Asking questions is free. Do you have the job already? I have a video for you: th-cam.com/video/1OxUGjTnQsI/w-d-xo.html
Hello I have the book but sometimes really hard to study. I have to obtain my CDL for public bus driving in Illinois. Is there links for KNOWLEDGE, PASSENGER, & AIR BRAKES ?

I want to get a CDL license for class A what do i need to do first? go to the dmv and take the General Knowledge test and if i pass where do i take the Air Brakes test. and Combination Vehicle test and Pre-trip inspection and how much is those test cost and do i need to take Endorsement Tests or the skill test? i know i ask alot but i just wanna to make sure what i need to do first cause i don't have anyone to help me
Hi, Letran, thanks for watching. First, make sure your regular driving license is in good standing. Second, get your MEC. Now, passing the CDL General Knowledge Exam gets your foot in the door, but by itself, it's not enough. The Endorsement Exams are for the type of driving you want to do. After you pass the written exams, then you get a CLP or Commercial Learner Permit, then you can take the Vehicle Inspection Test, the Basic Controls Text, and the Road Test, which you have to do driving the type of vehicle that you'll be driving commercially. Check out my video on it: th-cam.com/video/-XYZQzd1Ulo/w-d-xo.html Also, check out Section I of the CDL Manual Playlist: th-cam.com/video/bkvnTklnVHY/w-d-xo.html

Hi Paul. There's no need to. 49 of the 50 state CDL manuals are based on content by the AAMVA which was contracted by the FMCSA to distribute a model CDL manual to the various state DMVs to be used by CDL applicants, such as yourself. Few states have state-specific sections in their respective state CDL manuals, but if they do, the state-specific section is in the front of the respective state CDL manual. See th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.htmlm38s and then you can compare your NJ CDL manual driving-tests.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NJ_CDL_Manual_15.pdf to the model at the FMCSA at www.fmcsa.dot.gov/sites/fmcsa.dot.gov/files/docs/2005%20CDL%20Driver%20Manual%20-July%202014%20-%20FINAL.pdf Good luck to you, and thank you for watching my videos.
1 st attempt failed on first section but the questions are very similar to the book. A few were worded very different which i know to look out for now tho
No problem. I believe you'll pass it on the next try. You might consider reviewing the CDL manual and highlighting the areas that you saw on the exam. Then maybe you could share a few of the questions you saw with us. Click the following link to retrieve the CDL manual for your state: drive.google.com/file/d/0B4ayFJQLMK-DeWltanNJUWU5aXc/view
I’m trying to get my cdl class b to be a concrete mix truck driver. Is the test long? & what exact study guide should I be studying for ? I heard it’s only 2 exams the general knowledge and air breaks.... please let me know
For the most part, but you should be aware of Delaware specific information in their CDL manual. Additionally, you need to study Section 6 for the Class A General Knowledge exam. Please refer to Figure 1.2 in Section 1.
Hi Pedro. Take a look at this video: th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.htmlm11s In it, I discuss state-specific questions from the state-specific section of your CDL manual.
Barry burton i got a question sir? My question is i got a school bus driver position offer, offered to me can you tell me what i need to study? There paying for the training to obtain my class b? Thank u.
First, get your MEC. Second, study for the CDL general knowledge exam, your school bus endorsement, your passenger endorsement, and if you're school bus has air brakes, study for your air brakes endorsement. You will also need to study for the pre-trip inspection. See th-cam.com/video/bkvnTklnVHY/w-d-xo.html and check out my playlists for the appropriate videos to watch.
Thank you so much, goldigums! I happy to say that I just completed and uploaded Part 2 of the new series, entitled, CDL General Knowledge Exam Practice Study Questions and Answers. You can see Part 1 and 2 at th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_Hso9xEvnbAptD1fUW-hGf1.html And, thanks for watching my videos. I really appreciate it.

Hi Barry, Is there anyway you can send me a downloadable link for my crews? I would like to make flash drives for them to get their CLDL's Thanks in advance! Hope S.
For Class B, I recommend watching the following: (1) General Knowledge: th-cam.com/video/KmEabXqTrGU/w-d-xo.html It includes Section 2 questions and answers. Why is Section 2 important? The following video explains: th-cam.com/video/qcCKkDjPGBs/w-d-xo.html You will also need to watch the following videos for your required endorsement exams: (2) School Bus: th-cam.com/video/z2TRTkTAdGs/w-d-xo.html (3) Passenger: th-cam.com/video/6BkM_NKlIIA/w-d-xo.html
Virginia's CDL manual is interesting. It's not in the same format as manuals derived after the AAMVA model. For one thing, the order of the sections don't match the order in AAMVA manuals. However, I do believe the content is approximately the same, not including state-specific content. Consider taking a look at the Virginia CDL manual at www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/dmv60.pdf

These videos are in no way intended to be a replacement for you studying your state's CDL manual. Here's a link to it: www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-7C.pdf To drive a school bus, one that doesn't require air brakes, you would need to pass the CDL general knowledge exam, the passenger endorsement exam, and the school bus endorsement exam. If the school bus had air brakes, then you would also need to take the air brakes endorsement exam. If one other hand, you going to drive a city public transportation bus, then you would need to take the CDL general knowledge exam, the passenger endorsement exam, and the air brakes endorsement exam.
I took my test in Montana, so I would suggest referring to the Florida CDL manual. Please see www.flhsmv.gov/handbooks/EnglishCDLHandbook.pdf and you might want to take a look at Figure 1.2 on Page 1-2 to determine what sections you will need to study.
Hi Sammy. I took my test in Montana, so you should probably check your state's CDL manual. This video here is only meant as an additional study aid and is not intended to be a replacement for you actually studying your state's CDL manual. However, you might want to take a look at this video on state-specific questions at th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.htmlm6s Also, you can also download the CA CDL manual at www.dmv.ca.gov/web/eng_pdf/comlhdbk.pdf and then refer to Figure 1.2 on Page 1-10 to see what sections of the CA CDL manual you should study. Good luck to you in your studies.
For the CDL General Knowledge exam. yes, of course, and to further your studies, you should also review the following General Knowledge playlists: (1) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_Hso9xEvnbAptD1fUW-hGf1.html (2) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_GJoMV9Zy6jcw3tq5Wj_RCv.html and (3) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_E68lz6zb_U_wUpuD7qFc6H.html
I suggest you show the examiner Page 2-18 of the CDL manual, which states the following, "If there are two (left) turning lanes, always take the right turn lane (of the two left turn lanes). Don't start in the inside lane (the left lane of the two left lanes) because you may have to swing right to make the turn. Drivers on your left can be more readily seen. See Figure 2.14. Reference: goo.gl/FfkAAp (Parenthetical comments added to enhance clarity.)
It depends on what you want to do with your CDL. I suggest you refer to Figure 1.1 in Section 1.0 to determine what class of CDL you need and Figure 1.2 in Section 1.1 to determine what endorsement exams you need to take. Refer to the Federal CDL Manual at goo.gl/FfkAAp and then check out this video about state-specific questions: th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.html

Hi Chris. My videos are intended as a study aid and not as a replacement for your own independent study of your state's CDL manual. Please click on the following link, locate the CDL manual issued by your state, download it, and then study it. drive.google.com/file/d/0B4ayFJQLMK-DeWltanNJUWU5aXc/view
Hi Rory. Thanks for the question. I've got three playlists for you for General Knowledge. (1)th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_FqUw5O-37sWQWlYNEGJDMN.html (2)th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_GJoMV9Zy6jcw3tq5Wj_RCv.html (3) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_E68lz6zb_U_wUpuD7qFc6H.html
Hi Carlos. Thanks for watching my videos. Some states have state-specific content in the first part of the CDL manual, and some state's don't have any state-specific content. The second part of the CDL manual is produced by the AAMVA and is provided for the state's to distribute through their DMV offices. See th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.htmlm37s for an explanation. I do provide a link for your state's CDL manual. See drive.google.com/file/d/0B4ayFJQLMK-DeWltanNJUWU5aXc/view If you're in New Jersey, then see driving-tests.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NJ_CDL_Manual_15.pdf If you're ready to start studying to take your CDL General Knowledge exam, subscribers to this channels have complimented me on the following video series: th-cam.com/video/J5o9ogeFKac/w-d-xo.html
Eazy Rider :) I took the GK with the 'P' & 'S' endorsements here in NY. I failed miserably the GK, but passed the 'S' and failed the 'P'.....trying again this Tuesday. I recognize almost all Barry has posted
Joshua Henderson My understanding, at least here in NY is the CLP, or permit, is like any other permit and it has restrictions on it until you take & pass the road test.
I took my GK test today and i didnt pass but I missed it by a little. I was hit with a question that i hadnt seen in the manuel. It was about wide turning and it had a nick- name?. If anyone knows what im talking about please leave a comment below. Im re-taking the GK test again friday:)
Kym BodyByKym ...are we required to take both knowledge and air brakes test the same day or can we take one the first day than take the other test the day after
I know when you go for class B license for CDL there is 50 questions at the DMV for it. But what about class A ? Is it still 50 questions? Or is there more?
Of course. All the content in 49 out of 50 state CDL manuals is based on content from the AAMVA, which was contracted by the FMCSA, so you're good to go.
Hi Mr. Ramos. It's good for every state. Your best bet to pass the general knowledge exam is to watch all of the videos in the following general knowledge playlist: th-cam.com/video/J5o9ogeFKac/w-d-xo.html
Barry Branton ok cool but I’ve taken the test once b4 and failed by 1 and the general knowledge test was only 50 question ,so which video is the best to study for the 50 question I️ don’t want to confuse or overwhelm myself ? Thanks
You don't just want to pass the exam by the skin of your teeth. What would that say about the kind of person and driver that you aspire to be. As a commercial motor vehicle driver, you have a duty to yourself and to the public to be the best CMV driver that you can possibly be. Therefore, you should watch the playlist that I recommended to you.
Thank you!!! My videos are good for all states in the US. I recommend the following videos: 1. CDL Opus: th-cam.com/video/K6N3nyoVIfs/w-d-xo.html 2. Combo video playlist: th-cam.com/video/PybuByjuBGY/w-d-xo.html 3. General Knowledge: th-cam.com/video/HOFMikRv9Bs/w-d-xo.html 4. Air Brakes video playlist: th-cam.com/video/apepahLizdE/w-d-xo.html 5. Passenger video playlist: th-cam.com/video/6BkM_NKlIIA/w-d-xo.html 6. School Bus video playlist: th-cam.com/video/z2TRTkTAdGs/w-d-xo.html 7. Hazmat1: th-cam.com/video/R65PUpgnu70/w-d-xo.html 8. Hey Barry looking to be a truck driver here soon just turned 21 and about to head to Indianapolis for training live in Alabama. I was curious before I go I need to get my permit from the DAMN first for a class A CDL and I was wondering if the questions in this vid will be the only ones on the permit test or will it include all subject like air brakes, pre trip inspection, ect?
I was looking up and I would actually want a license to drive a truck for a company how should I go by that .
Hi Mauice, check this out: th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_GMtfrFgssQGro75CkQVdNK.html

Hey Barry thanks for everything I got my CD in the mail Friday and I have just been studying and forgot to thank you so thanks again you've been really helpful
My pleasure. Thanks for letting me know you received it. Good luck to you. I hope you pass. Thanks, again.
Good luck to you.....please update us
Awesome, Leslie. You're a true champ!
Thanks
My pleasure. Studying for your CDL is a highly profitable use of your time. It's an amazing investment that will pay off for years to come.
I think I'm almost ready for the Real test at the DMV. I'm going to drive over there this WEEK!
Great! That's good news!
gratitude for the video beloved.. I passed the test today 💚
Congratulations! That's great news! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for taking the time to do this for All of Us

Thank you! your videos are very helpful I'm studying ahead of time. I still don't have the job but making every effort.
Dream Skate. I know the feeling. For me, a while back I decided to study how to study and how to take tests. There are many areas that I need to work on, but I'm sure that you will be successful with what you want to accomplish. You might consider watch this video, entitled, Fastest & Easiest Way To Get Your CDL at th-cam.com/video/_mCZse4GjdI/w-d-xo.html
thank's Barry I appreciate that. I'm going to watch it and keep on studying.
:) good looking out man I really appreciate it!
You and people like you are the reason why I make and will continue to make these videos. Thank you for watching them.
Thanx for posting this I'm going for a CDL test wish me luck
Your success is determined by you, though I do recommend that you get a good night's sleep, eat a light breakfast, carefully read each question and be sure you understand what the question is asking you before you answer, and stick with your first answer, in other words, don't go back and change your answers. Statistics show that the first answer is usually the best answer. And, good luck, though I doubt you'll need it. Let us know how you do. Thanks.
Hi Barry the question and answers help me out a lot.
Hi Anita. That's good to hear. Thank you for watching my videos.
Thanks so much I should pass this time off your passing answers thanks Barry god bless

GCWR, GVWR GVW
What are escape ramps?
How do you know if your tractor/ trailer have yellow ABS?
Where to place your triangles on a curve and where to place your triangle on a devided hwy?
exhaust system defect/ exhaust system can let poison in the cab or sleeper berth
Broken leaf is 1/4 will be put out of service.
Barry Branton Lubbock, Texas. There were 1 question that wasnt in the handbook.
I like Texas' CDL manual. It looks awesome: www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-7C.pdf
Thank you, Kym. Good job on posting those questions for us.
Some of the questions at the dmv aren't in the book.
Right. Some states include state-specific questions. See th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.html
I bet lol
Hey Barry thanks for the video it was really helpful I liked and subscribed any other tips I live in Denver Colorado I'm trying to get my CDL Class A if you have any other videos please let me know thanks.
Sure. Check out my latest playlists. For example: th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_HGMz65WXrwIJAEMe4IorDQ.html
Take care.
Thank you very much for your quick response and thank-you so much
My pleasure, Greg, and thank you for watching my videos. I really appreciate it!
Keep the good work up I know it's not easy thanks again have a great day
Thanks, Greg. I'll try. Keep in touch, and please let us know how you do. Maybe after you take the GK exam, you could tell us about a question you encountered on the exam.
good video and questions. thanks.
Thank you, ilya. Much appreciated.
I have liked and subscribed 💚
Thank you, SP
taking written for permit tomorrow. illinois. all I've been doing is watching your videos for the last week. any advice? thanks
Jeremy Pontanini ....do we take both the general knowledge and air brakes test the same day, or can we choose to take the knowledge test one day than the air brake test the next????
could you please take him on different days but I think it's best to take them all on the same day you get three chances to pass each one
Outstanding videos thanks.
First off, thank you for these great videos! If I need my class A permit with air brakes, what should I study?
You're welcome, and thanks for watching my videos. Please review the following video for the answer to your question: th-cam.com/video/bkvnTklnVHY/w-d-xo.htmlm59s
Excellent! So I need your “General Knowledge” video, “Combination Video” and “Air Brakes” section. Then later I’ll need the skills test section.
Of course. Please check out my playlists: th-cam.com/channels/Qbq6jFNaoLbIwgLgDTgCTA.htmlplaylists
Combos: th-cam.com/video/PybuByjuBGY/w-d-xo.html and I have playlists for the other items.
Hey Barry I answered 20 something questions within the time I was given for my test which was 12 minute test...
I don't know if this is true in every case, but for the most part, I believe you have 90 minutes to take the 50 question General Knowledge exam for your CLP. Source: dmv.dc.gov/service/knowledge-test
Just viewed your video mate, really love the content. Subbed straight away, We should connect!
Thanks, Llew!
You should do just fine. Congratulations on the new job! Thanks for watching.
I was told there are 100 questions at The DMV in beautiful Utah.
Do you have the Arkansas general knowledge and air brakes test
The one you're watching should work
I have been studying for my Cdl to obtain my permit through the dmv process, but at this point I am kind of clueless as what steps to take once I get to the skills test part!!...I am unsure of how will I prepare or practice in order to to ace my skills part!
@@BarryBranton Thanks alot! I'll continue to study and watch vids.
Hello Barry,
Do these questions apply to the New York CDL test questions or are the questions universal to all the 50 states? I am asking you because I have studied many sources including the DMV CDL book, CDL Examination book by REA, Bumper to Bumper, and online test banks as well. I just want to pass on the first shot and start training. Thank you for your guidance. If you can recommend other study guides or videos, please let me know. Enjoy your week.
John
Indeed, John. Thank you. Please check out this video in reference to your question: th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.htmlm37s and please refer to the description for links to the various state CDL manuals.
Thank you, Barry!
Thanks! Do you have class A and Air Brake question and answers too?
Have you seen my Air Brakes videos? th-cam.com/video/FEv7ZVWAYVo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks a lot I m appreciate you so much
Thank you for watching.
Hi I’m looking for videos to help me pass my cdl pre trip and road test
Class A or Class B, C?
Studying this will prepare me for CDL* general knowledge portion of cdl written exam? Or are there many other questions in your other videos as well
Check out these 26 CDL General Knowledge videos: th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_GMtfrFgssQGro75CkQVdNK.html
wow 26 videos seems like a lot of material? the only way to be prepared for just the knowledge portion is in all 26 of the videos?
My book says stop every 3hours or 150miles to check the tires.
"Check the tire mounting and air pressure. Inspect the tires every two hours or every 100 miles when driving in very hot weather." According to 2.14.1 - Vehicle Checks (Tires) on Page 2-29 of the Montana CDL Manual media.dojmt.gov/wp-content/uploads/Montana-CDL-Manual-Dec-2015.pdf
haha i think he was checking his cargo load every 3hrs or 150miles ..but yes 2hrs or 100 miles for the tires.../great job barry
I was told the test was 200 questions
Do you know how many times you can take the CDL written test if you fail? I am so scared to take it! If I pass then what is the next step? This is for school bus... Thank you Barry
That's what I did, that is, start out as a school bus driver. Being scared and excited at the same time, it's an amazing feeling. I would call up your local DMV and ask them. Asking questions is free. Do you have the job already? I have a video for you: th-cam.com/video/1OxUGjTnQsI/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for the info! These are so helpful..
I know there is 25 questions on test but if there's anymore could you put on there for Georgia,Thanks.

Check out my video on it: th-cam.com/video/-XYZQzd1Ulo/w-d-xo.html Also, check out Section I of the CDL Manual Playlist: th-cam.com/video/bkvnTklnVHY/w-d-xo.html
i read the book several times do you think studying these tests is enough to pass

Barry Branton thanks
hey Barry .can you please show me the Nj exam videos please thank you
Great help for class A what do i need to study sir ?
Hey Vanessa! If I were you, I would refer to Figure 1.1 and 1.2 in Section I of your state's CDL manual.
Barry Branton thank you
1 st attempt failed on first section but the questions are very similar to the book.
How many general knowlege questions where on the test
50
I’m trying to get my cdl class b to be a concrete mix truck driver. Is the test long? & what exact study guide should I be studying for ? I heard it’s only 2 exams the general knowledge and air breaks.... please let me know
General Knowledge exam is 50 questions. It's not long if you know the material. Good luck!
Hey Barry is this video for Delaware and is it for a class A license ?
For the most part, but you should be aware of Delaware specific information in their CDL manual. Additionally, you need to study Section 6 for the Class A General Knowledge exam. Please refer to Figure 1.2 in Section 1.
Cool thank you brother
Hi Barry, is the test multiple choice or I have to type the answers? Thanks.
True. They are multiple choice. You select the correct answer.
do you think it's the same one for Texas?
See th-cam.com/video/bkvnTklnVHY/w-d-xo.html and check out my playlists for the appropriate videos to watch.
good stuff thanks sir
Thank you so much, goldigums! I happy to say that I just completed and uploaded Part 2 of the new series, entitled, CDL General Knowledge Exam Practice Study Questions and Answers. Thanks in advance!

You could recommend that they visit Barry Branton DOT com or www.barrybranton.com
Trying to get my b license should i study 100 questions or the 50
For Class B, I recommend watching the following: (1) General Knowledge: th-cam.com/video/KmEabXqTrGU/w-d-xo.html It includes Section 2 questions and answers. Why is Section 2 important? The following video explains: th-cam.com/video/qcCKkDjPGBs/w-d-xo.html
You will also need to watch the following videos for your required endorsement exams:
(2) School Bus: th-cam.com/video/z2TRTkTAdGs/w-d-xo.html
(3) Passenger: th-cam.com/video/6BkM_NKlIIA/w-d-xo.html
will this study guide word for Virginia resident?
Virginia's CDL manual is interesting. It's not in the same format as manuals derived after the AAMVA model. For one thing, the order of the sections don't match the order in AAMVA manuals. However, I do believe the content is approximately the same, not including state-specific content. Consider taking a look at the Virginia CDL manual at www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/dmv60.pdf
Will this work in Michigan
I recommend watching the following: (1) General Knowledge: th-cam.com/video/KmEabXqTrGU/w-d-xo.html It includes Section 2 questions and answers. Why is Section 2 important? The following video explains: th-cam.com/video/qcCKkDjPGBs/w-d-xo.html
Hello Sir ,is it for CDL A and b
See Figure 1.1 of Section 1 of your state's CDL manual.
Are these questions on the test for Texas bus drivers?
Barry Branton okay thank you
You're welcome. Good luck to you, and thanks for watching my videos.
hey barry is this for florida test?
I took my test in Montana, so I would suggest referring to the Florida CDL manual. Please see www.flhsmv.gov/handbooks/EnglishCDLHandbook.pdf and you might want to take a look at Figure 1.2 on Page 1-2 to determine what sections you will need to study.
hi is this accurate for California b class license test?
Good luck to you in your studies.
hey Barry, do these sample question apply in California?
To be safe, if I were you, I would study the California manual: www.dmv.ca.gov/web/eng_pdf/comlhdbk.pdf
Barry Branton will do also. thanks
What should I study for my cdl permit and how long is the test
It depends on what class of CDL you obtain and what you plan to drive with it. Check out Fig. 1-2 and Fig. 1-2 in Section 1 for that info.
Is this the same for california
Cali is a tough cookie. Check out Fig. 1-2 and Fig. 1-2 in Section 1 for that info.
Is this CDL for California too
For the CDL General Knowledge exam. yes, of course, and to further your studies, you should also review the following General Knowledge playlists: (1) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_Hso9xEvnbAptD1fUW-hGf1.html (2) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_GJoMV9Zy6jcw3tq5Wj_RCv.html and (3) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_E68lz6zb_U_wUpuD7qFc6H.html
I failed my general knowledge test because i chose to use the right lane of the two left turning lanes, it said the correct one was the left. WTF!
Will this work for Indianapolis??
Indeed, it will. However, I recommend watching the following playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_GMtfrFgssQGro75CkQVdNK.html
Thank you
Do i need to know all this if all I want is a c class ?
I would say that it's best to refer to Fig. 1.1 and Fig. 1.2 in Section 1 of your state's CDL manual.
Does this test pertain to the state of illinois
th-cam.com/video/kqKoJaNHaXw/w-d-xo.html
How many test do I have to take for my CDL license
It depends on what you want to do with your CDL. I suggest you refer to Figure 1.1 in Section 1.0 to determine what class of CDL you need and Figure 1.2 in Section 1.1 to determine what endorsement exams you need to take. Refer to the Federal CDL Manual at goo.gl/FfkAAp and then check out this video about state-specific questions: th-cam.com/video/mSR1i_4stVg/w-d-xo.html

Do I have to write out all answers. (?)

hello berry will this video help obtain my Class B CDL?
Is this for California test?
Thanks for watching, friend!!!

Hi Rory. Thanks for the question. I've got three playlists for you for General Knowledge. (1)th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_FqUw5O-37sWQWlYNEGJDMN.html (2)th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_GJoMV9Zy6jcw3tq5Wj_RCv.html (3) th-cam.com/play/PLz9u0GMKwC_E68lz6zb_U_wUpuD7qFc6H.html

My pleasure, Rory! And, thanks for watching my videos. I really appreciate it.
This test apply for all estate in USA, or yes only per specific estate?, example only in California or Nevada pardon?
I'm studying to get my cdl permit.
me too i passed the air brake and combination tests today failed general knowledge ,no i know thats backwards i think
Eazy Rider :) I took the GK with the 'P' & 'S' endorsements here in NY. I failed miserably the GK, but passed the 'S' and failed the 'P'.....trying again this Tuesday. I recognize almost all Barry has posted
i have all my endorsements now 2 weeks of school left thank for the knowledge
Stan Posoa what's the difference between the cdl and the permit or is it the same??
Joshua Henderson My understanding, at least here in NY is the CLP, or permit, is like any other permit and it has restrictions on it until you take & pass the road test.
I took my GK test today and i didnt pass but I missed it by a little. I was hit with a question that i hadnt seen in the manuel. It was about wide turning and it had a nick- name?. If anyone knows what im talking about please leave a comment below. Im re-taking the GK test again friday:)
Kym BodyByKym off tracking?
Javier Lopez No that wasn't one of the choices are I would have Remembered that choice.
Button hook?
Javier Lopez Do you know this question. WHEN GOING UP A HILL and your speed is to slow and THERE'S traffic behind you what should you do?
Kym BodyByKym ...are we required to take both knowledge and air brakes test the same day or can we take one the first day than take the other test the day after
This includes hazmat?
No. Hazmat is an endorsement. Check out these two hazmat videos: th-cam.com/video/R65PUpgnu70/w-d-xo.html
IS THIS FOR CALIFORNIA
Thanks for watching, friend!!!
I know when you go for class B license for CDL there is 50 questions at the DMV for it. But what about class A ? Is it still 50 questions? Or is there more?
As far as I know, it's the same.
In PA it's 70 questions for CDL A.
www.dot.state.pa.us/public/DVSPubsForms/BDL/BDL%20Manuals/Manuals/Commercial%20Drivers%20Manual/Comm%20Manual%20English/PUB%20223.pdf
Phuck Coocle are they all mixed up as in the general knowledge air breaks etc
Does this work for any state? What about Georgia?
Of course. All the content in 49 out of 50 state CDL manuals is based on content from the AAMVA, which was contracted by the FMCSA, so you're good to go.
Is this for NY
Hi Mr.
I thought the test was 200 questions
This one?
My videos are only offered as a supplement to your own, independent study of your state's CDL manual.
