No, that was never the purpose of a true drum circle. A drum circle is intended to facilitate the interaction of the great spirit with persons. A drum circle is not a musical, not a practice session. At a drum circle there is no pre agreed beat. It starts erratic and full of confusion. But, as the great spirit manifests itself everyone falls into a rhythm, a rhythm that facilitates the arrival of the great spirit who will gather up your spirit and fly with it. Unfortunately, the true meaning and purpose of a drum circle has been lost and forgotten. It has now changed into a musical show were people show off their drum and dancing skills while being self absorbed.

There are many “purposes” of a drum circle, not just one. It’s up to each participant as to why, but the main goal is to co-create with others and express spirit.
