- All things must pass, and August 2016 had to end somewhere, and this was it. Matt, Alan and friends were participating in the Oban Sea Kayak Race, which is a 12 mile round trip of the Island of Kerrera, which is just offshore from Oban. I arrived the day after with Matt somewhat hungover from winning the GOLD medal for novices, and celebrating wildly in the bars of Oban, dancing on tables, abusing the Constabulary, sticking 2 fingers up to authority, baring their backsides in restaurants etc. Anyway we finally hit the water rather late, after saying goodbyes to Alan and the others, and decide to repeat the round Robin of Kerrera, so that Matt could fully appreciate what he'd missed the previous day in his headlong rush for the Gold Medal. As you will see we failed gloriously in our mission, but had a really excellent day in the process, the weather conditions being exceptional, and really showing up the natural beauty of the area to it's full potential. The following days though, were a bit of a disaster as far as paddling was concerned. The plan was to go over to Mull, and paddle down to Iona and that area. Of course the weather was having none of it, so we ended up having a night near Fort William, then on to Moidart and Tioram Castle. The day after that, the weather really took a dive, so we headed homeward, with a plan to see Alan at North Berwick, and paddle that area closer to home. Matt decided to call it a day, I stayed over one last day, but there was no let up with that wind, and I decided to call it a day, and that last day was in fact the 1st of September, finally ending the August that was indeed august.
