Considering the fact that steam engines need water in their boilers to keep them from exploding, I think putting diesel fuel in their tanks would turn them fiery inferno not long after it gets injected into the boiler.

Gordon was speaking straight up FACTS about how the audience feels about Henry's departure with no explanation. Episodes like this one, "Sodor surprise day" and "Up, up and away!" has Gordon speaking the truth of how dumb bad episode writing can be. Edward's departure did have a reason, though I wish we couldve saw Gordon holding resentment towards James considering he started it if he hadnt ran out of brakefluid and destroyed the back wall of Tidmouth Sheds from racing with Rosie in "The fastest red engine on Sodor".

Thomas only called them "those trains" because they were thrown in last minute. They were last minute additions to AEG. The script was written before they were put in.
