Jadon Sancho was signed by Manchester United to occupy their right wing position, but he’s spent a lot of time playing left wing.
At Borussia Dortmund, he had some of his most productive games at right wing, but for United, his best numbers come at left wing.
So, which is his best position? Maram AlBaharna explains.

So diplomatic of Maram to say AWB is not necessarily worse than Hakimi
its not really diplomatic since they are both very different profiles that can't be even remotely compared.

I’d love a video like this on Phil Foden; started out in midfield, and now Guardiola & Southgate tend to play him more on the wing (on either side, like Sancho) - and even as a false 9
Foden is absolutely brilliant as a false 9, he just has such a wonderfully intuitive sense of space and where and how to receive the ball.
He's naturally a 10 or a mezzala. Pep plays his on the wing or previously at false 9 because he's already got de bruyne in that role. When KDB comes off typically foden fills that role.

I love your analytical explanation of Sacho and Rashford. What I do not understand is why prior managers did not recognize this area where Rashford could improve, yet he repeatedly keeps doing the same thing on the pitch. Everyone who has seen Rashford play weekly could see these faults.
Yes. That's a tendency that needs to be coached out. Coaching failure there.

@@kukunase1686 he wasn’t coached for at least 3 years under Ole and Mourinho probably didn’t care as much since he was used more in transition and counters where having so many players around him was unlikely, especially with his pace.
@@karmaascendant3936 exactly, he was predominantly used for his pace in counter attacks. He hasn't really improved anything else since his debut under LVG. I remember several of his debut goals where he arrived late in boxes, it's been missing trait since.
He keeps doing it because WE LET HIM! He's been our left winger since 2016! And he's been horrendous for 5 of those 6 years so he's BOUND to do the same things over and over again UNTIL HE LEAVES

This is what I've been saying about Sancho to anyone calling him a fraud last year. Just because he doesn't try to take on defenders every time he has the ball, then passes back or sideways, doesn't make him a bad player. He just has terrible teammates.

He has to beat his man or play forwards sometimes. For 100 Million he's expected to do some things himself 😂 Bruno and the midfield can't be blamed for everything.
@@TetaTalk he can beat a man if he wants to, there's plenty of videos showing that. There's a difference between attempting to beat your man for the sake of it and doing it when it's a sure thing. At the extreme end is Rashford, who does it no matter the odds and keeps wasting possession
@@sususegar Rashford atleast contributes and it shows he tries, Sanch just slows the play down and plays backwards or sideways at best, he's got the ability clearly but has zero impact for the fee and hype he produced. Similar to Grealish in terms of high fee and expectations and little reward for it so far.

As a Dortmund fan for several years, I have seen Jadon grow and become who is today in front of my eyes, and I absolutely agree with Maram (whose Tshirt was amazing btw ❤️) that Sancho thrives of a offensively capable full back alongside him, who understands his moves and ideas. In the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons, he was deployed on the right wing and he was tearing it apart with Hakimi overlapping on that flank. Then comes 20/21 and Hakimi leaves for Inter, Meunier who is nowhere near Hakimi's offensive capabilities replaces as the right full back and Sancho's productivity drops to an all time low.
Lucien Favre gets sacked, Terzic comes in, moves him to the left where he can combine with Guerreiro (who if you ask me is the most brilliant full back in the world on the ball) and BOOM, Sancho starts banging again and gets his move to Manchester. In United, he has to play with Shaw and Wan Bissaka, who frankly speaking are nowhere near Guerreiro and Hakimi, both international full backs. So, if Ten Hag wants Sancho to fire on all cylinders, he needs to fix the full back situation.
Don't disagree with your overall point but Shaw played scored in the euros final for England. He is an international player. He isn't consistently good though... I mean no one at United is at the moment. AWB isn't an attacking full back, he might be able to learn but probably not.

@@TJ_Jones1 yeah, I dunno, I just assume there's a couple of people at Tifo that just love Utd, God knows they get enough coverage as it is. I swear old Tifo used to be way more diverse in its coverage of football before they seemed to go for opinion/comedy. Personally I'd love to hear more about the mid-table sides etc but I think since Alex left its just a bunch of guys half watching the prem and Seb just watching Bundesliga because he happens to live there. It is what it is but I certainly prefer the days before they seemed to go hard on JJ's waffle-bot style where he does analysis on games he can't even remember from four hours earlier 🤷♂️

Intuitively I think it makes a lot of sense for a right footed winger, when you play on the left as an inverse you would shoot way more, but the deep dive into the tactical setups that influence the distribution of his G/A is fascinating. Also shows just how bad the attack of ManU is right now...
Solid video, but i must remind you that it's been 1 day since we've had fresh Arsenal content... hope JJ has something ready for after the match. After another arsenal vid you should do another a video reminding us how awesome City/Liverpool are (will really drive viewing data), then maybe some more arsenal content (could bring Robbie/Ty on for an AFTV crossover, they'd have great chemistry with JJ).

Excellent explanation Maram. Regardless of left or right it shows that Sancho operates best with an overlapping full back. If Utd continue with the idea of inverted full backs then we may still not see the best of him.

Sancho is a really good short passer of the ball and a very intelligent player. And that's about it. Doesn't have the pace or acceleration to break down a block, even over a few yards. If anything, better suited to being a Number 10 for a lesser team in the prem.

IMO the data suggest he’s better on the right but needs a decent right back supporting him, and AWB is not it. He’s only better on the left in the current team. Sign an attacking fullback and a true holding midfielder then the whole shape of the team changes for the better as both fullbacks can push on and under/overlap with the CB and DM in a three rather than using the RB that shifts across

I don't think Sancho needs to play on the right, because of the presence of Bruno, as he is supposed to be the creator, but they need a more mobile striker to allow for Sancho to drive into the box and take shots, whilst maintaining their shape up top
Based on performance, the subs bench. Needs more intent in possession, taking on players, driving into the penalty area, producing an end product. Far too little of that so far.
I said it last season he needs to go out on loan yet for some reason United think he's a first teamer. The boy is absolutely terrible and only playing because of a price tag. If a youth player like shoretire or chong kept getting picked and putting in these performances people would be saying they're not ready. Sancho is at that level, he's garbage

Not playing for Man Utd, fr he'd be so good at City, where everyone is a prolific passer which enables his amazing movement after making a pass to beat players. Man Utd need to get 8s or 6s that link up with him super well, and can be relied upon to make return passes to him

As a United fan, just because Shaw is better than AWB and Dalot doesn't mean Sancho should play on the left. Sancho wants to pass, Rashford wants to shoot. Switching flanks means both players don't get to play how they want.

Good analysis.
Rashford has his skills and can be a really dangerous player. He's just lacking a tactical manager who tells him exactly what to do and what not to do. Sterling used to try and dribble to many players too. He used to play very wide as well. He doesn't do both anymore because he had a capable manager showing him how to be more effective. As you stated as a runner he's one of the most dangerous players around. If he has just 1 or 2 players to dribble he's great as well and his shooting technique is also great when he's not too far out.
That's why Rashford has stagnated for the last 3 years, he became very one-dimensional under Ole excelling mainly on the counter. He had a high scoring season but his overall game didn't progress.
Also, a modern attacker needs to be adept at playing in smaller congested spaces. Very common for even good opponents to employ blocks to squeeze the spaces.
