He is at an age where it doesn't matter what the church thinks of him. He is obviously well respected, has a deep knowledge of the BOM. That said, anytime anyone questions anything about a religion they get bombarded. THAT is not healthy, questions are healthy. Whatever people decide is their "truth" let it be, no religion is perfect (but Mormon(ism). I thank this man for his courage and know he will be with God in a wonderful place. Love thy neighbor as thyself. We will be judged by the way we treat others, not by the judgment of man.

It was your work and research that has helped me discover my peace. As a Mormon [now former], many questions I had remained unanswered, the dots were all over the place. You helped connect them and now it all makes sense because of your wonderful work. R.I.P Grant Palmer, you are a good man.

Grant, as one with a Doctorate in Theology and psychology and as a clergyman who has spent over 30 years of studying Mormonism, no author or teacher has had a greater impact on my view of Mormonism. Most importantly, you have come to know the true Jesus Christ who will escort you from this life to that place he has prepared for you. I look forward to meeting you beyond the veil. May God bless you. Thank you for your courage in preparing for new life and sharing your wonderful testimony. Like many, God has deeply blessed me from your teaching and example. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Abundant Blessings, Father Jeffrey M. Dire

+Jeffrey Dire..... Amen Father. I am a former Mormon and Grant Palmer is truly a good and honest man. He is now hated by the Mormons and loped into being an "anti - Mormon". His knowledge is a real threat to the Mormon Church, and so it should. Many of us love this man because Grants hard work as a researcher has revealed truth, truth about Joseph Smith, truth about the culture and thinking of the Mormon, truth about Christ. I love this man.

Grant Palmer is one of the people who made his life truly count...What he did with his time here is still helping people - and his works will go on benefiting others for a long, long time...His actions, quite literally, echo on in eternity for the souls he helped guide to the Light.
Being raised Mormon and converting to Christianity later, I used to wonder why God lets Mormonism happen to people...but I think I've figured it out...To expose Mormonism and help Mormons see the truth, a person really needs a deeper understanding of it. You need to know their books, know their doctrines, know their "prophets". You HAVE to know their beliefs inside and out - and only with those tools can you effectively witness to Mormons. God puts people like Grant Palmer in that cult, but He pulls them out before it's too late and uses them to help others...I'm constantly impressed by Mr. Palmer, and look up to his example of being a warrior for truth.
God bless Ex-Mormons! God help the Mormons!

A great interview! Grant is an honest man and certainly put more than his big toe into the arena of religion. I'm impressed that he saw how Buddhism was so similar to Christianity. If you go to the essence of all the great world religions, you find the same thing. He mentions Baha'i in Indonesia being Hindu. Baha'i actually is an independent religion even though it originated in Iran and has its world spiritual and administrative center in Israel. I actually discovered Baha'i in Salt Lake City and have been an enthusiastic believer ever since. There was a Baha'i in Utah at that time named Kenneth Dean Stephens who was from a Mormon pioneer family. He was like Grant in his honesty and willingness to put way more than his big toe in. He got his Masters degree in religious studies in Chicago to prepare himself to teach at Mormon religious institutes. He taught comparative religion at BYU for a period also. He was brought before a heresy trial because of his expanding view of religion and ultimately became a Baha'i.
My feeling is that if you really want to understand the truth of religion, you need to look at religion on a world scale. There's a reason why, when you wade through the differences in culture, language and historical context, there's a remarkable sameness. It's like teaching children at different stages of maturity. You teach what they need and can understand at their particular stage of development. This is a good metaphor for humanity as a whole. The "my religion is better than yours" sounds a lot like "my race is better than yours". We should get beyond this. It's time.

People have discovered that section 132 wasn't added until almost 50yrs after JS died. Section 101 from the original 135 D&C and I believe the Book of Commandments.
I'm still learning there was so much corruption in the early church and it continues on today.
I know that BY was wicked and disgusting. I'm still learning and trying to figure out JS. In the current D&C it states that the church is under condemnation since it's inception. It's all right there.
I've decided, now that I don't need to know all these things, but that I need to learn how to come closer to Christ. I've had amazing spiritual experiences and it's been wonderful. I'm grateful for my learning journey.
I decided it doesn't matter what these people have or haven't done as long as I can come closer to God and teach my children to do so as well.
We don't need a go between between us and Christ. Christ is THE way He is the mediator He is the one who stands at the gate and employs no other servant there!

I too wasn’t angry when Mormonthink revealed the facts to me. Had been inactive for a decade. Why? I knew the true nature of Mormonism. When my dad abandoned our prosperous perfect family in favor of partying and adultery, the leaders and ward blamed it on my sweet devoted Mother. He didn’t pay a dime to his wife and 7 kids, bought a Benz and a bachelor pad, started donging any lady willing. Hearing bishops say “he must have left for some reason”
Seeing leaders tell “yer dad is awesome” stories to my destitute grieving mother was eye opening. Mormon kids wouldn’t play w us or date us. I know, if I heard this I’d think “ must be more to the story” but there isn’t. Mom had 3-4 jobs and ladies in our wealthy ward mocked her for giving out samples at grocery store, her 4 TH job on weekends. She never went after him for $, he owed 150k. Courts would have garnished wages, she didn’t wanna embarrass him. Our ward treated her like Typhoid Mary. Moving to a poor ward helped a bit. It was the most unchristian behavior I could ever imagine.

History books are written by those with opposing views, usually, and are left to glean from them what we can, Abraham took Isaac up the mountain to kill him with a knife ....to us in the 21st century would this be seen as logical? probably not ! wouldn't some of us question....of course we might ....is this man any different ? he sees that jesus shows tough love to the disobedient, this is hard for many to understand .. but it is clear he knows god's love isn't that worth knowing? Church leaders say stay in the ship zion even if the waters seem rough, we may get wet, even if we fail,we will ALL inherit; I would still nail my love for Christ to the mast as did joseph smith

Honest, brave man. One correction. It was briefly mentioned that Baha’i is Hindu. This is inaccurate. The Baha’i Faith is an independent world religion that claims to fulfill the expectations of the Bible, the Muslim prophecies a as well as Buddhist and Hindu prophecies.

Tough one. I've been wondering about the Church, besides the nice feelings and the prayers. On the one hand, there are great revelations like the word of wisdom, restablishment of the priesthood and ordinances, proclamation to the world (before all the gender issues began to spread), patriarchal blessings containing a lot of personal elements the patriarch couldn't have guessed, personal revelations and blessings, details in the scriptures like Melchizedek or the urim and thummim, but on the other hand, all these issues addressed by Grant Palmer. So what's the deal? Was Joseph a con artist and he used Jesus for his personal success, taking advantage of others and possibly putting his own soul at risk? How did he get so many ideas? It's hard to believe all this comes from a man. To me it's either what it claims to be (and no man could see God and live, so they had to be transfigured when they saw the Lord in the temple, same as Moses or Joseph during his vision, so I don't have a problem with the fact that they didn't see the holy beings with their own natural eyes), or it's a very serious problem, more serious than the interview suggests. Because if the church is not what it claims to be, all this organization and set of beliefs are in my view too much to have come from men (it goes beyond what most religious sects preach), so yeah, the other possibility is that it could come from Satan, and that's a pretty big one...

All the answers to your questions about how Joseph Smith came up with his “spiritual ideas” are in Grants first book: Mormon Origins.
Just because something is too good to be true does not mean it’s true. I was very active Mormon, including RS President, for 42 years. Finally, I’ve allowed myself to hear something beyond “my own testimony”. Best wishes.

It seems like the church leaders listened to Grant Palmer about the church moving closer to Christ and at least making an attempt to disclose a more truthful telling of the Mormon church.

Very nice, Grant Palmer. At least for me, the best part of getting out of Mormonism was getting out of Christianity and from underneath Jesus and "the atonement."

Actually, I still love my Mormon and Christian family and friends and often attend their churches for the music and the laughter of children and some nostalgia, and for funerals. Plus, I always leave some pretty good material and references in the song books. My coming or going or leaving has no bearing on the reality - Jesus is dead and not coming back.

    • @Shelama

The Mormon church, of course, issues essay after essay precisely because they know their own position is weak - therefore "doubt your doubts, and follow the leader regardless lest you listen to Satan, and our evidence is so weak that you actually really need a burning bosom."
And they know that Mormons who leave the Mormon church are not "weak" but, rather, serious, honest, curious and informed. Hence, their predictable, standard 'shame & blame' game. And preaching fear to their flock.
And the TBM sheep indulge self-consciously farcical and childish self-validation by mouthing "weak, weak brick, and awesome."
Of course, one has to also remember that the weakest parts of Mormonism aren't anything unique to Joseph Smith (or Sidney Rigdon or Oliver Cowdery, etc), but, rather, the belief that Jesus died for their sins, and that the Bible is reliable history and the word of a god.

The restorationist themes expressed in Mormonism came from Sidney Rigdon, who had previously been a preacher in the American Restoration Movement (Stone/Campbell), which predated the Mormon Movement in the early 1800's. The American Restoration Movement was not Mormon at all but was a trans denominational movement in early American Christian circles dedicated to a return to a primitive Christian model as a solution for the dilemma of sectarian Christianity, which it's divisive nature was deemed to be antagonistic with Christian teaching in the New Testament. The ecumenism of the American Restoration Movement didn't work, of course, but it did foster an interest in the return to the primitive church, which remains until this day.

Anyone interested in what the Bible says about the afterlife? Then read this in order, and pay close attention to what it says.
“Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:” John 11:23-25
“Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” John 5:28-29
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:” 1 Thessalonians 4:16
Did you catch what this says?
    1) You are in the grave until the resurrection.
    2) There will be 2 resurrections. The resurrection of life, and the resurrection of damnation.
    3) The saved will come up in the resurrection of the last day.
    4) Jesus is our resurrection meaning He will resurrect us.
    5) Jesus will speak and those in the graves will be resurrected.
    6) This first resurrection takes place when Jesus returns.
“For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.” Ecclesiastes 9:5
“The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down into silence.” Psalm 115:17
“Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.” 1 Kings 1:21
“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:” Acts 13:36
“Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,” Acts 2:29,34
“No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.” John 3:13
    1) The dead do not know anything.
    2) The dead don’t praise the Lord.
    3) The condition of the dead is silence.
    4) Death in the Old Testament was commonly described as sleeping with their fathers. Death is a sleep.
    5) David when he fell asleep the last time, was laid with his fathers.
    6) David’s bones were still in the sepulcher. This was proof enough that he had not yet ascended to heaven.
    7) Jesus told us that nobody had ascended to heaven.
Conclusion. We sleep in the grave when we die, in a silent, unconscious state, until Jesus returns and speaks to those in the grave and they are resurrected at that time.

What about SIN?! He doesn't say sin one time? It is not an "experiment" it is realizing you are a sinner,,repenting of your sin and doing the great exchange ...give Jesus your sin,he paid for on the cross, believe Jesus was raised from the dead.then you receive Jesus' righteousness. That is the Gospel. Mormons do not have the true Jesus of the Bible. Only the JESUS OF THE BIBLE can save you! NOT "9 QUALITIES OF JESUS",! YES YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN, but he is not clear, he is all over he place?? JUST READ THE BIBLE NEW TESTAMENT AS A CHILD. REPENT AND TURN TO JESUS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

The Bible says I am the Way, the Truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me! Jesus did teach on hell! He said "the wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God." "Except a man be born again he shall not see the kingdom of God." That Book of Nephi is a novel! None of that is true, so that is why the Mormons are so confused! It is blasphemy to say that the devil is Jesus brother. He was a fallen angel! A created being! Jesus is the 3rd person of the triune God. The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are one.

Reading The Holy Bible , acknowledgement of our
Almighty Creator God and accepting the sacrifice at the cross of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ
is ALL we need for a satisfying and complete relationship with our gracious GOD .
Mormonism has nothing to add to what God has already given to us !
And as new evidence about the mormon “church” come to light
including science , archeology , DNA
etc and etc , we end up with the
fantasy of the bucket full of holes that could not hold any water.
It is so sad that so many thousands of genuine people have been deceived in such a snakeish way ! !

As far as I know, Smith claimed to be a true prophet. And at least some of his prophecies didn't come to pass. Yet Mormonism teaches that if even just one of a prophet's prophecies do not come to pass, he cannot be a true prophet.
That should cinch it for anyone. The rest is just quibbling, compared to that glaring deficiency.
