Just started to watch your vlogs from beginning what a lovely down to earth family you are lovely to see a genuine true life vlogs you do keep it going hun ❤
Oh thank you so much @SL-kk1lk that is such a wonderful thing for you to say ❤❤❤ I love making the videos and I am hoping I am getting better at editing them. 😍❤🐴
Important point in this excellent video is that you do have to keep an eye on a horse wearing a grass muzzle. They will enlist their friend horses to free them from a grass muzzle while you aren't looking. Ask me how I know. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh this just made me laugh @AHinton-f9i I put a pony pad saddle on the foal the other day just so he could wander about in it and my mare 'Hope' spent the entire hour he had it on trying to remove it for him! He wasn't even bothered about it but she was horrified! They are so funny together and the three of them are a proper little family unit from different corners of England ❤
I mentioned a grass muzzle in an earlier post to one of your videos. One of my horses really benefited from one. I did not do the gradual introduction that you suggest. I would have him wear it for a few days and take it off for a couple of days, depending. They worked great for my easy keeper. It is far better than having one founder. Another method is to only let them graze at night. The grass has very little sugar at night. In my case, I could not easily do that.
Yes you did @406dn7 and that's how this video came about! Oh poor Hope is NOT impressed at all but it is definitely helping! Doing extra research on it has really helped too as there is a girl right by us who's pony was living in one 24 hours a day, literally for months on end until it could get it off on a tree branch or something. Poor thing had no life and never left the field. Thankfully the pony has now been taken off her and has had the medical care she needed. Its taken about 3 weeks to get her to where she will wear it and eat a little. The first time it went on she just stood there looking at me for a couple of hours. She's definitely a thinker and you could tell she didn't understand the situation at all. She does struggle to eat with it on so I definitely cant leave her for too long. Yes I've been leaving it off completely overnight and putting it back on after school run. It really has made a difference! I'm working on the vlog at the moment and how she got on with it. I always put the information side video up before the vlog though ❤💕🐴
This is an excellent article!! Superb!! Wish I had seen it long before! I learned it by trial and error with two EMS horses after near disasters with laminitis. Vets are essentially useless, I cannot believe how many are clueless. They take X-rays and give very vague useless advice or none at all. They just want your money. This woman telling us the goodies on muzzles is RIGHT ON! Thank you!
Mental stimulation is so important for horses. I loved riding on the beach unfortunately where I live cars are so inconsiderate of horses and just speed past you. I actually got thrown from my mare she got spooked poor thing. I knew who it was because we lived on a loop road, so I took Jayda back home and paid that man a visit limping and all 😂
Its everything isn't it @Abbey-pb6fd I've said it to a few people over the years, go and stand in your garden and see how long you last before you need to either go in the house or walk around the streets or something. There are soooooooooo many horses that just stand in the field which is fine but they just love going out with the new sights and all the different smells. I think it is a little like prison otherwise unless you have 30 acres of forest wilderness!
I have just brought one for my cob with EMS. I brought the greenguard one second hand because my vet said its much better for his teeth that the bucket types.
I'll have to have a look into that style, was it expensive @hannahtuck3052 ? I love how our little TH-cam community is growing with all of these super helpful comments! ❤🐴💕
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream Yes brand new! but I was able to pick the muzzle part up on ebay for 25 and Ive ordered the headcollar bit new. Fow now its attached to my horses regular field headcollar. so far I think its quite good! xx
Thank you for this video! I have an insulin resistant gelding that I fight to keep weight off. I really hesitated to try a muzzle because he is boarded and I can't get out there every day to check on everything. Hmmm, need to think more.
I think you have to do what's best for you as well as your horse @susanchaney5059 . Could you not put his muzzle on it the day and take it off as soon as it is dark?
Strange how different things are called different things in different areas isn't it @nicolaxoxo1one comment I had called it a grazing bucket! I quite like 'grazing bucket' 🤣🐴🤣
I absolutely hate grazing muzzles, it teases the horse to be on grass without being able to graze normally. Why not have eating muzzles for people overweight? The more the horse is limited to eat and chew normally the more it needs dentistry. I had horses all through 1970s on ad lib hay (what I would call rough hay) and rough grazing (a mix of mature grasses limited grazing. They were yard kept (an old crew yard on farm) so had free in and outside access as they wanted. Never needed dentist and were fit and healthy in mind and body. It is better to fence off a s mall area so cannot overeat than the muzzle with free access in and out of stable.
I have to say I am not 100% convinced with the idea either @josephinestecak4945 . Its just so hard to know what to do for the best though isn't it and at least with videos like this we can get quite a few of the facts out. There are people in our area that put the muzzle on in spring and its on until late autumn... Never taken off! Poor ponies.

@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream awwww thank you so much for the kind words! 🫶🦄
You're welcome @becauseunicorns1108 ❤ I have unicorns in my emoji list now thanks to you! 💕🦄❤
Excellent video full of good information, as the mince pies are now in the shops I'm wondering if I should try a muzzle 😊
Oh heavens @karenmackinnon7385 how am I supposed to not eat mince pies at Christmas???
Oh this year is going to be hard... 🤯😅💕
It helps a lot if you buy genuine sheepskin covers for the area of the muzzles that might rub on the horse’s head
Yes they are lovely @nicolaxoxo1 Thank you so much for your helpful comment ❤❤❤

I always call them “GRAZING muzzles” never heard them referred to as “grass muzzles”

Do they make them for humans? I'm struggling to lose weight!
Oh heavens wouldn't that be good @MiriamPendleton !!! 🤣🤣🤣
I don't know about you but jaw wiring might be the best option for me!
