ONE place you MUST VISIT in CHIANG MAI | Is Sunrise at Doi Suthep Temple worth it?

- Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand has more than 300 temples!
You can do a full day tour just visiting the most beautiful ones around this historical city, but if you only visit on temple in Chiang Mai, we think it should be Wat Doi Suthep! Find out why we think Doi Suthep is the best temple in Chiang Mai.
We headed to the temple for when it opens at 6am to try and watch the sunrise as this is supposedly a magical experience.
During the early hours you can see and hear the monks chanting, as well as the volunteers preparing breakfast. It's also very quiet and peaceful at this time of day.
How to get to Wat Doi Suthep Temple?
It's very easy! If you have a motorbike you can take the Doi Suthep Road straight from the centre of Chiang Mai and it will lead you up the windy mountain roads, directly to the temple.
Alternatively you can take a local taxi for just a few baht!

I am so grateful to have just one, I can feel my kids a bite lonely sometimes but she will learn to be independent by herself. Every time I see my friends with two or more kids I just feel that one is perfect.

I enjoyed watching your videos on Thailand. Most of the adventures you present are for young and fit adults like yourselves, so I have a request; could you do similar videos for seniors who cant climb 300 steps to a temple etc. I will be in Thailand in October and would welcome videos suitable for my age group.

There are plenty of seniors and elderly that visit Doi Suthep. You just need to take your time on the stairs and it's worth it 🙂
Hi Coco, We are releasing a video showing the elevator shortly, There is an elevator at the base that will take you to the top for 10 baht, There are also a heap of ramps, etc. surrounding the temple, Don't be concerned, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is accessible even with a wheelchair.

If you're looking for more places to visit in CM(for Malia), I would recommend Chiang Mai Zoo and Chiang Mai Night Safari.
🐼Chiang Mai Zoo has a diverse range of animals, including pandas and Aquarium, but it's quite vast, so you might get tired from walking.
🐯The Night Safari is an exciting experience where you can see animals active during the nighttime with various animal shows but I'm not sure how well your camera captures nighttime scenes, though. Lastly, you "MUST" try Northern Thai food, especially 'Khao Soi' noodle. If you haven't tried it, then you haven't really been to Chiang Mai!

Did you stop off at Wat Pha Lat? It's a temple about half way up to Doi Suthep? Not too big but its beautiful, with a nice river and views over the countryside.
We didn't but maybe next time 🙂
BTW the monk in 5:22 is Kruba Sriwichai, a venerable monk who is highly respected by people of TH esp. those in the north. You can also see his statue at the base of the road to Doi Suthep. He did many goodness to Buddhism in TH and also many construction and renovation works. One of them is related to Wat Prathat temple. About 90-100 years ago, although the temple is up there in Doi Suthep, there was no road. Kruba Sriwichai need to build the road for people to easily visit the temple so he annouced his attention and could gathered people from around the region (according to records, lots of them they have to arrange the shift for working) With no modern mechanic at all and only basic tools like axe, saw, hoe, shovel, etc. they built the road through the forest from the base of the mountain to the temple, and it was succes in only 5-inch months. Quite quick compared to the tools they had yet it also proved how people give Kruba Siwichai repect.

I visited chaing mi. Went to FRIENDS WITH ELEPHANTS sanctuary for Elephants great food wonderful experience. They have a pick up service
Is it a legit sanctuary? Many of them pretend but still let you ride them and chain them up etc.

@WhereNextFamily Al Gore tried a method after having three daughters and wanting a son. It involved drinking coffee and timing and other things. The method was actually described in a biography about him that was published in 1999. Not sure how effective the method is, but it worked for him.
