  • Catching 15+ bass on the San Marcos River. I focused on the senko wacky rig and it paid off. This was a 3 mile trip from SM Scout Camp to Sculls Crossing.
    Kayak: Crescent CK1

    Man, what a great day on the water. Gotta love Texas for our mild winters and early springs. I've said it before, I'll say it again, I would love to take some paddling lessons from you. Your technique is so impressive.

      Amen, I am blessed to be on this river. My stroke technique comes from my fathers teaching, and whitewater kayaking as a kid with Ben K.

    What a nice float! We haven't been out in a kayak much but definitely love the ability it gives to get away from the crowds. Great trip.

    Nice run Alex!
    Your good paddling techniques remind me how lazy I get when floating rivers. Great job catching fish. The more the bends, no matter the size of the catch, makes the day fun.
    For a 34" wide yak, the CK1 looks good for maneuverability. At 60lbs, it seems to be a good yak for a throw-and-go. Are you going to do a full review soon?
    I've had my eye on the CK1 since their release. Before Summer, I plan to purchase. It was nice chatting you up a couple weeks ago when I purchased the Crescent Crew, which I enjoy very much. I'll. Be. Back.

      Yoo appreciate the positive words Gump. The CK1 has good stability at 34", I can carve the rivers up with its maneuverability, and it's easy to throw and go at 60 lbs. I'll have my overview out in March sometime.

    Pretty cool how you get that 180 degree "front row seat" looking at the rapids.

    Nice job! I sure like watching someone who enjoys and knows how to paddle a kayak.
    How do yo think the Crew would have been on that stretch? Less maneuverable but…?

      Hey, I appreciate the kind words JW. The Crew can run this section no problem, she is just a little bigger 👍

    Nice ! I just got a kayak but I’m confused on returning to my car after I’m done kayak fishing. I also live in San Marcos.

      You will have to have a friend help in getting your vehicle down to the end of your run BEFORE you start your trip. If you go with another kayaker (2 vehicles), leave one vehicle at the end.

    Good stuff! Gonna have to try that keitech a little more soon!
    My dad and I made that float recently and both had a great day. But we put in at the bridge on old bastrop. The pic I used for my TH-cam picture is a 6.59lb I caught up river from the bridge on scull.

    Do you do much fishing in the summer down here in San mo? If so, any tips? Not looking for the secret spot, just to get on some more bass in the summer heat.

      Truthfully, for me it slows way down. I always have these with me and play off what the fish are hitting. 10" or 12" Texas rig worm, 3/8 oz swim jig, 4 in Kietech with underspin. Also a senko or ned rig seems to work well for the smaller bass.

    I'm split between the ck1 and the new Crescent Drew Gregory signature model. The crew is amazing, but the weight can be a factor.

    • @tgcanoesandkayaks
      @tgcanoesandkayaks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Drew's kayak will be more suited in the fishing aspect. The CK1 is a great kayak but will be limited on the features when comparing the two.

    Another great video Alex, got to love spring fed rivers water temp is pretty much the same year round i bet. Jealous that you're in shorts and I'm in waders over here In Fort worth lol. What's your thoughts on how the ck1 performed?

    • @tgcanoesandkayaks

      Appreciate it Jonathon, the CK1 has been performing great on the rivers. I've been digging it!

      @@tgcanoesandkayaks nice I've been digging my ck1 as well, performs kind of like a coosa but tracks better. The coosa is still top dog for a river runner though.

      @@tgcanoesandkayaks I see you fishing the Jackson Bite often in your videos. How would you compare the CK1 to the Bite for a fishing kayak? Full disclosure: I am a Bite owner, but really like Crescent kayaks and likely would've purchased one if there was a dealer in my area.

    • @tgcanoesandkayaks
      @tgcanoesandkayaks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jeremydrouin9975 I like them both a lot. The Bite handles more weight and offers more stability. The Ck1 is significantly lighter and is more enjoyable to load /unload/portage.

    Do you think a fiberglass canoe could handle the San Marcos rapids without damage??

    • @tgcanoesandkayaks
      @tgcanoesandkayaks  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are stricly recreational in skill, i dont recommend it, but it is possible if you have good paddle strokes. If you are training for the TWS it's a must for obvious reason's.
