Actually you transformed your erc721 into a erc1155. You could have used the erc1155 for both contracts and just modify the geturi function for the character contract. I'm not sure if your 721 is opensea compatible. Because a 721 is supposed to be unique and does not support the erc1155 interface check. But maybe I'm wrong and it works just fine.
Cheers for the comment Pascal. As stated in the video, the design decision to use ERC1155 is for the efficiency/cost savings within its batch minting. I could use ERC1155 or ERC721 for both, but there will be cost and functionality trade-offs. I have had ERC1155 tokens working fine with Opensea. :)
