    Garcia, You've inspired me to convert my 61 Kombi!! I started taking engine and electrical auto classes to learn the fundamentals so i can restore my bus. I've forsakened my VW, abandoned at my folk's house when i joined the military. Wasn't sure how to approach the project BUT NOW.. i fried engines in the past (temp,blown crank,etc) how does your bus handle harsh temps, what considerations should I address before converting my VW to electrical? Awesome work! Genius!

    Ur videos inspired me to make my own electric conversions. Currently working on a smart for two car. It was the easiest conversion I found after doing some research and also the cheapest. Got it started last week but because of the cold weather haven’t given it a test run.

If you would’ve cracked into someone or something those batteries being so low could’ve had some issues. Good job, glad you got it working.

    Great Video and even better job! Especially with "hiding" these modules where they belong to - under the floor - that was a very good decision! My time estimate was off by eight
    ...times 🤣
    I thought if that's just moving stuff from one bus to the other it shouldn't take more than one day 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • @htmagic
    @htmagic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jehu, you said 8 days and then 12 hour days. So I said 13 days which were based on an 8-hour day. So 96 hrs/13 = 7.38 hrs/day. Pretty close. But you also had help. So that second person doubled the hours that they helped. So I feel I was closer to the estimate than you think...

    Hey buddy we’re following your channel since you showed how to build those solar panels for the people in Puerto Rico after that storm hit 👍🏻 My question is on the lithium Titanate batteries 2.4v 45Ah 20 Qty if I wire them positive positive negative negative all the way down the chain what I’ve learned was you just keep adding the Ah per battery which is 900 Ah what’s your idea on that if you have the time to answer please !

    • @ahaveland
      @ahaveland 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you add batteries in series, the Ah stays the same, but the voltage goes up. W = V x A, so Wh=V x Ah.
      Try to avoid thinking in terms of Ah, it was only useful when everything you worked with was 12V.
      The watthour is the measure of battery capacity, and hence kWh, MWh, GWh etc.

    • @peterg.8245
      @peterg.8245 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      20 batteries in parallel would give you 900Ah @ 2.4V which would require huge cables for such a low voltage. While wiring in series would give a 48V @ 45Ah making the bus bars much smaller saving hundreds in copper wire.

    How is auto insurance affected with a conversion? Because of modifications, does a person need to notify their insurance company, get an inspection of the modifications, expect any rate increases/decreases, etc.?

    • @peterg.8245
      @peterg.8245 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably only needs liability unless he wants comprehensive/collision. Legally the title doesn’t mention conversion. The electric motor and batteries wouldn’t be covered without a rider which would cost a lot.

  • @jakeeames725

    QUESTION: if you want high amperage AND capacity in a “performance” ev how difficult would it be to have a secondary battery pack that has a high cdr compared to a larger high capacity pack that you use for every day driving? Like if you put your foot down or went up a hill the higher amperage battery pack takes over when there is a higher current demand?
    Looking into using a model s drive unit in a e30 bmw. Just a newbie doing internet research and throwing ideas around. In theory would like to use a large pack of Panasonic NCR18650BD cells for capacity and a smaller “turbocharger” pack of something like Sony VTC4 cells for current.
    Any information or feedback or more info on anything like this or diy batteries or tips and tricks or whatever would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time for anyone reading this!
