Having watched their rise from the beginning it the Dixie District, the best answer we ever got was it stands for FRED! A comedy quartet of four really enthusiatic dudes that sing fanasticaly well. Three of them sang together in various other comedy quatets before the bass joined them. They have always been very entertaining. Wally Stewart
They should have won that year :D but I don´t regret that, because otherwise, they wouldn´t have shown us their extraordinary performance next two years...
That's how I feel about them, Gas House Gang and Keepsake. Keepsake totally should've won in '91 and GHG in '92, but, since they were both robbed of the title in those years, they came back with even better material.
That was back right after Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield's ear in a boxing match. FRED did that gag in the set the previous day. The lead got "mad" at the tenor and bit his ear. So the tenor wore a band-aid on it.
When did Mike Tyson bite Holyfield? On June 28, 1997, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield fought in Las Vegas in one of the most anticipated rematches in heavyweight boxing history. Holyfield was the defending world champion after he had shocked Tyson seven months earlier in an 11th-round knockout.
In 1997 when they were competing in Atlanta GA, the entire final quartet session was delayed because it was the 4th of July and there were fireworks going off in the Olympic Village ( from 1996). That is what the joke refers to, this amazing quartet adlibbed that line while waiting backstage for their turn to sing.
@@otownsoundchorus That is totally incorrect. I was at this performance, and a member of the performing Big Chicken Chorus. It WAS the 4th of July, but it was in Indianapolis. Literally, the contest took a break and encouraged the audience to go outside and watch the fireworks in downtown. FRED appeared after the break.
I had the privilege back in 2008 to sing Tenor in a polecat with FRED at a teacher's convention they performed at! I approached the bass after the show and told him I was a barbershop director and we went into the foyer to find the other guys so we could sing together. I held my own really well but I was panicking that I would screw it up!! What a great bunch of guys!
I got to sing tenor in a tag with them at a teacher's convention they sang for back in 2008. Man, I've never been so nervous in my life. Ha ha! 'Sweet and Lovely' actually! What an awesome experience!
That first song just shows their incredible talent. They manage to hit every note and blend perfectly, with perfect choreography, and also keep things hilarious without laughing once.
@bbstenor419 It appears that earlier in the show, he lost a bit of it. Now whether this is a parody of Mike Tyson's antics or supporting tomfoolery from an earlier part of the show, I don't know.
I miss FRED. They don't make quartets like this anymore.
The chord on “ERFD” at 2:12 is LOCKED.

Was it pure happenstance that you typed out 'Four Really Enthusiastic Dudes'? Hah
Was not sure what to expect when I was sent this, but comedy gold!
I'm loving it also
Why did this not make it on to the 'Putting the HA in Harmony' DVD? This is CLASSIC Pookie and CLASSIC FRED!
These guys bring happiness
Love the inappropriate major 3rds!

Seeing this comment before I remembered the context just made my day. And even after I remembered the context, I'm still laughing.

It was probably just part of the act.
Yes you do. Look up the Finnish Association of Barbershop Singers.
SLIVER?!?! Sorry came here by accident
At what time? they change positions all the time.
What's up with the thing on the tenor's ear?
I think it's a reference to Mike Tyson biting off Evander Holyfield's ear, which happened shortly before this concert.
I think it's actually a reference to a previous time that FRED was at this competition, one of the other members did something to his ear.
.....that makes a lot more sense. :-D
i heard it was the tyson-holyfield thing too, but it doesn't add up 100%

"The Dixie distrik" gets me every time
I got to meet the baritone at my hotel this year for the regional competition. A very nice and funny guy, and of course a great performer.
I had the privilege back in 2008 to sing Tenor in a polecat with FRED at a teacher's convention they performed at! Is anyone else here after the NF4 performance?

Oh wow... this song turned out to be a real.. erfd
I’d do anything to see them perform live
That first song just shows their incredible talent. They manage to hit every note and blend perfectly, with perfect choreography, and also keep things hilarious without laughing once.
Is that what "FRED" actually stands for? cause I really want to know now :P
Does it stand for "Four Really Enormous Dinosaurs"?
Why not?

FRED DERF Best. Username. Ever. For this comment.

Get over here you idiot! 😂 Gets me everytime
wow. i wish i could see these guys live!!!!
joe has the best bass ever
rick bit him in the quarterfinals
These guys are awesome in person!
What a pity that this America has disappeared for-ever!
our current economy doesn't permit a renaissance. everyones too broke to spend time to perfect an art
They sort of remind me of laurel and hardy.

this is amazing!!!!!!
Dunderheads?
God i hate it when people clap before they end the chord. You have to let the chord ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant!!!!!!!!
Fantastic.... love em!
(where 'this' being the second number of this set, of course...)
What is that thing on Pookie's ear?
Ducks, right?
Ahahahaha "Ferd" XD
ო
lol
What’s the name of the first song?
Like the original? I don’t think there’s an official recording of this parody version, but the original is “L-O-V-E” made famous by Nat King Cole
Legendary! So fun to be able to call them friends! Ya goofballs!
the tall fella?
I could listen to narrator for ever
