Great job again BSA plugins are such a joy to use - just added this new one to my collection ( I do not purchase many plugins anymore at all ) only no brainers
I love that you had the literal most perfect song on deck to demonstrate the effectiveness of a dsr. Sounds great though, Jordan. I love that you’re crushing the plug-in game.
This might be the fastest I've copped a new plugin, I'm always juggling between 3 different de-essers to try to find the most natural sound for the singer/track and I'm never 100% satisfied unless I do a LOT of tweaking. The simplicity and results with this are outstanding, and my favourite part is I don't *hear* it working. It just works!
Just bought BSA DSR and it's terrific. The simplest and most effective DeEsser plugin I have ever used. Black Salt Audio are killing it with thier plugins and always have a special offer when they launch a new product 👍
I downloaded the trial of this the night it got announced and purchased it within a couple hours. I haven't gotten a chance to try it on an actual music mix with vocals yet but I put it in my chain for some spoken word stuff and got great results within probably 40 seconds. I love the design philosophy of keeping things simple in plugins. For me it takes away a lot of the doubt and the endless minor changes to mixes. When I don't have 10 different controls or options to play with it simplifies and streamlines things so much.
DSR from Black Salt is great! I was able to get faster results with it than with the other de-essers in my toolbox. The simplicity of DSR made it quick & easy to dial in a quality sound
Silencer is amazing! So simple and saves sooo much time. Like literally hours. Also got the Escelator plugin with a discount code and I use it regularly. Very excited to try this de-esser plugin!
I had no idea about silencer, but I generally stay out of the loop on new things lol. It is literally exactly what I’ve been looking for though. This de-esser too. Excited to be using both of these.
I was using Silencer but eventually went back to Saturn 2 for cymbal bleed removal because it's faster, I don't have to waste time automating each ghost note and somehow it sounds a bit better in a whole mix. But if Silencer after some updates will have an automatic ghost note detection and the ability to fine tune the crossover frequency I may start using it again. For deessing I like Pro-DS in wideband mode, 11dB range and the default frequency range. I saved it as a preset and don't need anything else, maybe a bit of soothe in 2-4k range for slavic languages to catch lower sounding sibilance. But I'll try a demo of your deesser plugin and compare with my Pro-DS custom preset another week
I find Silencer just makes drums sound incredible unnatural, and really processed. I find it's only useful if you need a really quick mix for a heavier genre that doesn't rely on real sounding drums
YO!!! I was just about to start a mix with a vocal track that had too much 'ess' and I was thinking to myself, "ah man, I gotta deal with a de-ess plug... lame". And then I see this. HELL YES!!!!
Thank you for the awesome plugins! Can you make a video about how and when to use a the silencer plugin? I kinda just put it on my drum tracks, but i don't really know how and when to use a gate. Would appreciate!
LOVE this!! Everything I need in a De-Esser... just simple - I have one request for a patch note: could there maybe be an option to turn off the waveform view for those who'd like to "use their ears" so that they're not tricking themselves with what the plugin is doing visually? Obviously this won't matter for a trained ear, but I deal with amateurs and students all the time... being able to bypass the waveform would be huge!! Love ALL the work BSA is doing, and love your videos Jordan 👊🏽🔥
Jordan we need something to crush cymbal harshness in overheads. Some other companies have tried to do it but would love to see a BSA simplified approach
We need vocal tuning plugin that accurately reads and tunes aggressive vocals. Probably a reason nobody has really figured it out but the first people that do are gonna make a fortune.
Maybe your next plugin could be some kind of a channel strip that would combine your ”magic eq frequencies”, some tasteful saturation and just the right amount of compression. A bit more work than your plugins so far but maybe that could be the next step. Just a thought 🤷🏼♂️
Not to hate on this too hard but 1. This looks like smart:deess by sonible with less features 2. When has using a de-esser ever been hard? I feel like everything kinda has one built in and nearly every dynamic eq has a preset for it... like you can even do it in melodyne. Most de-essers have like 2 nobs so the whole "simplicity" act comes off as gifty and dishonest.
Can you make an LA-3A next? The most affordable option right now is the CLA-3A from Waves. Others are at least $60. I think there's room for another $30 LA-3A.
Just got it.........I'll a/b it with Sonible Smart de-ess, which is my current favorite..........and to be honest, even with that one or any other de-esser that I have, and dynamic EQ's, I still find myself needing to do some automation. I don't know if that process will ever be completely eliminated??...........one can dream 🙄🙏
Personally not a fan of the sound. The ugly part of an ess is half volume and half peaky frequencies, and this is only handling the first half so the ess is quieter(which is good) but it still sounds like an ugly ess because the peaky freqs remain.
I just got DSR a couple days ago and I love it so far. I am having one issue though when using it as a VST in Reason 12, where every time I open it up its window gets a little larger every time. After closing its window and opening it again a few times, the window is expanding beyond my screen and I'm not able to access its controls. Not a huge deal since I can just re-size the window and then it's okay (until I close it and re-open it again, at least) but I haven't seen that happen with other plugins.
I've come to realize, as annoying as it is, the best de-esser is the free one included in every daw...volume automation. Then you can target all the sss and fff but also those hard consonants as well. But I'll definitely give DSR a try and see if it can change my mind!
With /s/ you may be right. And I've done what you say myself. But with /z/, which is the exact same sound as /s/ but with voicing, if you just reduce the volume globally you don't just lower the level of the sibilance of /z/, you also lower its voicing, which you don't want to do (this will make it sound like /s/ if you go past a certain point (which would make "a zoom" sound the same as "assume", for example). That's why all true de-essers work on certain frequencies and not others. No idea if this product does so, though.
@@poissonpuerile8897 good point. Z is a pain in the ass. Maybe thats why that one and a few other sounds I cant really fix with volume automation alone. Because at that point it's basically just wide band de-essing when something frequency dependent would be more appropriate. Thanks for the tip👍
De-essing at the track level doesn’t work for me. I have to wait and do that in the final mix one at a time because some sit in the mix fine and others don’t. It depends on what else is happening at the same moment.
Can you make a plugin that distorts like the iPhone would distort when the mix has the wrong frecuency balance? And when you fix the mix the distortion disappears?
What is its latency? (I do live.) One of the reasons I have purchased many Waves plugins is simply because they publish their latency numbers. Not all of them have zero latency, but I know which to avoid.
You're gonna make me spend more money man. BSA's plugins have always been accessible to people like me who are blind and use screen reading software. Silencer is the gate I most often reach for now. It just saved my drum mix for a client today.
I always wondered about blind people doing things today. It seems impossible without an assistant for reading or explaining stuff especially on digital stuff.
@@TachyBunker it's getting there, voiceover is a good start on mac to use as a screen reader, PT is mostly there with it's accessibility, although there's numerous issues in the latest update if paired with OS14 so I'm staying away from that. It seems every sibilant in these clips is /s/. It would be nice to see how it performs with /z/ (where there is also voicing to deal with), as well as with /sh/ and /zh/ (which is a voiced /sh/). Since this plugin doesn't let you configure frequencies or Q, what you call "liberating" and what you say "frees you from second-guessing yourself" could well mean it's a flop with non-/s/ sibilants and there's no solution to that.
I wish you showed how it works with extreme settings. I love using de-esser prety agressively on backing vocals to remove all rhe consonants. Does it work for that? You are 1 confirmation reply away from making BSA De-esser my 1-and-only / 1-for-all de-esser of choice 😁
