Nice collection! In the Czech republic, where I live, it is difficult to find a banjo uke for sale and it is almost imposible to find a good one so I had to make my own uke from small drum at home. The sound is not brilliant but it is not bad. I used brass wire instead of tone ring. It cost me less than 500 crowns (about 14 pounds).
For me, the Ludwig sounds the best, just brought a Wendall hall recently, hoping to get a eddie uttley bridge for it, in your opinion what strings would you say would be best for the Wendall hall?
Kyle Evans a thin gauge always works well on a Wendall. Have you considered using fishing line? Most of the GFS use it now. Try .5 and .7, they tend to work well.
In My Collection I have. . . 1927 - Ludwig Display Model with Crowns and Gold Plating 1927 - 'Big' Gibson UB3 Deluxe 1942 - Dallas C (Ken Goodwin's) 1982 - Abbott Victor (Made by Jack Abbott Jnr) 1929 - Abbott Monarch (Refurbished By Eddie Uttley) 1929 - Custom Ludwig (Believed to be owned my a 'Minstrel' Jazz Band member) Then I have 2 wooden ukes, My electric Ashton and a Lanakia concert. Then I also have 2 Modern Chinese Banjo Ukes, Which I never play. So That’s 10 in total .
That Ludwig is very crisp and clear. When I first got my Wendell Hall it sounded crisp and I messed about with the action and it was never the same afterwards. I think that Dallas sounds better than the Abbott. All nice instruments with some history behind them.
I’m a part of the Dallas family and it’s nice to learn more about our ukes :)
Hi Lewis, had my Wendall hall restrung with fishing line recently, definitely made a difference, Thanks a million. Kyle Evans
Fantastic collection!
You are a joy to watch, interesting history of the instruments, thank you for that
A very lucky young man
