    With wooden bats, it just feels natural and gives me more confidence, I love the sound off the bat too, I wouldn’t say wood is better but I definitely don’t think I’d have too much trouble with a transition

      Colleges don’t exist to prepare athletes for the next level. And yes, wood bats cost more money. A metal bat will last a player a season, or more. Several wood bats will be used every year. That cost adds up. Small programs would have a very difficult time absorbing that cost.

    Nice video. I was born in the first half of the last century, and at 12 years old I swung a 32 inch 29 oz. bat and stood @ 5' 3" tall and weighed around 100 lbs. as did almost all the other kids of the same age. The big difference I see is that the kids of today are not as strong as the farm/ranch boys of my generation - the talent level is equivalent. Back then, hammering home runs over a 200' fence was no problem. Keep up the good videos!

    back when i played hs and college ball ( before the new metal bats were issued) i used an exo and the thing had soooooo much pop then i played for a wood bat travel all star team and my homeruns were turning into bloopers .HUGE transition from the old metal bats . im embellishing a bit but its still a big transition and there is a much smaller sweet spot on a wood bat. i never wore batting gloves with metal bats but that changed real real quick

    I went to many college games in the early 2000’s, everyone in the lineup was basically a home run hitter due to how hot the bats were. That all changed around 2010 and the amount of home runs being hit fell off a cliff.

    I remember being 14 and our club team begged our coach to play in a wood bat league. After the first double header we were looking at the remaining 14 games on the schedule with tears in our eyes wondering, “why would we ever want this?” 🤣. It was an extremely long 7 weeks. We were foaming at that mouth to get back to metal. Lol

      The best advice I've heard for pitchers after hitting a batter is to consider that the hit batter isn't going to apologize to the pitcher when he's touching home plate. He gets a free base out of the deal and a potential run! But with that said I'd never discourage good sportsmanship.

    I loved swinging wood. Finish my senior year of highschool with 7 HR (metal) and summer travel ball finished with 16 (wood) 🤷🏻‍♂️ Marucci 😈

  • @dfboiler
    @dfboiler 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My 10 yo used a wood bat all winter and he loved it. His coaches immediately asked why he went to wood and after we explained why the next week 5 or 6 other kids on his team had wood bats. Most went back to only swinging their composite or metal by the next week. It takes dedication at that age to understand the long term benefits of wood vs the instant gratification of metal. Either that or he just wanted to be like big brother 😉

  • @pingi223

    Gotta agree. Younger you use wood the better. My son has been using only wood when we practice at home. It really has helped him become a better hitter. Started right before 6 and now he just turned 8. So a bit over a year of just wood at home and it helped ALOT.

    Your subjects are things so many players have questions about. At my son's camp last week, both coaches (one was in high A for two years and plauged with a back injuryt he other is Brian Buscher ( Twins for three yrs)) said it took some adjustment. Brian said the bat transition was hard for him even though he was a good hitter. The other coach is more recent and didn't have as much of an issue with the transition.

      I practiced switch in Connie Mack League at the end of one summer. Batted twice left in a game.. Two times too many . Needed a LOT more hitting practice. My son wants me to try and hit left problem is, I have a BAD right hand injury and learned to throw and hit all over again. Batting left is very difficult.

    Switching to wood is great idea I think it should be standard for all leagues getting kids stronger etc. Of course I'm also the gut that feels we shouldn't take pitchers away from hitting . If we kept pitchers batting then we would have pitchers in MLB that can actually hit well IMO. I mean I remember playing in little league , HS, & even in 18 y/o travel leagues an the pitchers were some of the best hitters on the team . It's stupid to make them choose. The game would be much more interesting and pure if we got away from the whole "speciality player/specific position" model in pro sports . When learning the game the best players were utility players. Idk I'm weird I just think changes like this go a long way to making better players as well as better men outside of baseball learning to excel at many things overcoming stuff getting stronger (referring to having to use heavier wood bat at young age ) of course I'm the type of nostalgic guy that thinks NFL players should play both sides (offense & defense) of the ball like they did way back when lol. Ok I'll STFU now

    There was a period, late 90s early 2000s, when the metal bat became so advanced it was like batters were shooting cannons. It was a little scary for infielders, and seriously dangerous for pitchers. They had to do something. I myself always loved the feel of a wood bat when you hit the sweet spot. But, yeah, it's harder to do.

    • @michaelstein7510
      @michaelstein7510 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, those minus-5 “nuclear bats” were scary for pitchers and infielders. As an LSU fan, I grew up watching those “gorilla ball” teams that were dominant in the 90s. Those bats had ridiculous power. The modern bats and updated baseballs give much better balance.

But I’d love to know about how much film do players watch and how do you get a chance to watch film for all your opponents when you play day to day sometimes. And do the best players really watch the most film or do they just trust their own play while the younger kids watch the most film?????

    i'm glad you mentioned the changes over the years regarding metal bats. i was on CSUF on the 1995 (CWS Champs) team. And that, literally, was the first year of the "super bats"...let's just call them. These guys from Easton came out one day before the season and measured every players bat speed and then made a bat for each individual player. They made a 33" 27 ounce bat for me. Before that i was a guy that may hit 1 or 2 balls out during bp. Once I got that new bat i could routinely hit at least 6 or 7 out taking probably 40 to 50 swings on the main field. It was crazy how much pop those bats had. And yeah...hitting with wood after that was a HUGE difference.

    I'm so old, I never used ANYTHING except wood bats -- nobody had ever dreamed of using metal for a baseball bat. I used a 32 inch long wooden bat -- no idea how much it weighed -- in little league. I remember the first time I heard a metal bat hit a baseball and I wondered what the hell was THAT? BUT, just like with long pants uniforms, I don't like metal bats -- I just don't like change.

    The fact is that a metal bat will hit the ball farther than a wooden bat. If you enjoy hitting homeruns and most people do, they would prefer a metal bat. High school kids with metal bats can hit the ball farther than Major leaguers with wood bats. Some metal bats for high schoolers cost over $500. Then, add another $100 or so to have it put through a baseball ironer. Wood bats would be a lot cheaper even if you break a few.

    Can you do a video on how to always stay confident in big same situations or just in the game in general. The other day I played second and made two errors that cost 3 runs to score probably the worst game of my life and I feel like it honestly happened because I was so nervous on the field. Whenever I’m calm and relaxed I play fine. Can you share anything that worked for you considering you played in front of 50,000 plus you I’m sure had to have been a bit nervous. Throughout my childhood, I used wood bats. Before every game, I had to have the home plate umpire approve it. I always wanted to be used to it. Then in the playoff for my league, the ump said I couldn't use it and I played worse. Sucked, but I still hit 2 homers in the 2 series we played with the metal

    It also depends on what kind (brand and model) of ball your specific league uses. Some balls are wound tighter or have a higher wool percentage and that affects how hard the ball comes off the bat. I do agree that in general, BBCOR blooooooooows...
