Me and a mate wanted to brew a Christmas pudding stout but we didn't get to work on time so a pale it is. I was wondering Johnny, how many liters is your boiler?
Thanks Magnus. One of my all time favourite designers 🙌 it’s available on our teespring merch store if you fancy one 😎 teespring.com/en-GB/shop/milton-glaser
Decadent!! 😋 Enjoying the homebrew videos on the channel as I have recently started all grain brewing myself. Currently got a gingerbread ale fermenting hopefully in time for Christmas! 👍🏻
Brewing this tomorrow guys. Very much looking forward to it. Got my raisins and current soaking in a lovely Scotch Malt Whisky Society Panamanian Rum 🤤🍻
Hi Mark sorry for theate relpy. The beer turned out great. It definetly benefits from as much conditioning as you can give it. My best bottle was the last one I drank about 2 months after brewing. Well worth brewing.
@@jameskeogh6545 Hey James. I brewed this and followed your advice. It turned out fantastic, even the land lord of my local micro pub called me a magician after trying it. Definitely needs conditioning for a few weeks. So smooth and rich. Thanks for the help
Mince pies are the absolute bomb!! Probably my favourite Christmas treat so I'm very curious about how those flavours will come across in the final product
I was going to make a spiced apple cider for Christmas this year....I’m running out of time 😞....My wife and I have finished brewing and bottling the Belgian golden ale in the Goulden Drak style and will try it this weekend 😀 10%....My next project is a quad Abby beer....Great work lads, wish you a great Christmas
Dang, you guys make my Christmas Quad look kind of ordinary :D Still, awesome idea. If it turns out well I'll give Rum and Raisins a shot with one of my next dark belgian batches. Cheers from Germany!
Mmm yum yum! Your Christmas vids are always ace, will even better with your own brew! P.S. Ask Santa for a stainless steel mash paddle - so much easier than using that floppy plastic one.
Hope it turns out well! I've got a 7% brett porter with plums just about ready to bottle, brewed in may, had plums in for the last month - I hope it's not shit!
Haha yeah they would work really well in a stout, hence why we upped the Carafe II amount to make it darker anda little roastier. No adjuncts in our next homebrew video we promise.
This is a very exciting recipe guys. I'll be doing something like this in the future. I made a 100% raisin wine a few yrs back. I drink a bottle every few months as a treat. I used 4.5kg of raisins and made 13.5L of wine. O.G was 1.088. F.G was 0.096. I'm telling you this in case you want an idea on how many gravity points your raisins added to your beer. I blended my raisins into a thick liquid. Very quick and it made sure they were COMPLETELY broken down for the yeast to do its thing. Look forward to the next vid!
For this version we're skipping that element of the mincemeat - we wanted to still make sure this still felt like a classic dubbel, so only played with flavours already there
Hey guys, great vid as always. Any chance you could do a review of wander beyond brewing? We had their Raspberry Imperial Stout this week in sunny Australia and it was really one of the best beers we've had all year... wouldn't mind seeing you guys dive deep into more of their range!
Hey Josh! Wow can't believe they made it that far. We put them in our breweries to watch a few years ago and they never quite hit their stride in our opinion - save the odd stellar beer. We'll revisit!
Fair enough. Well, this beer tasted like chocolate coated raspberry licorice, but less heavy than your usual imperial stout... which made it very drinkable in 30 degree heat! So, lot's of different episodes you could make as an excuse to drink the beer! Haha. Also, can you try a fruitcake beer next christmas? And maybe start making it in July
Im away to brew this kit this afternoon and really looking forward to it. The instructions I got from the Malt Miller has the second additions and timings fails to mentions when to add Rum infused Raisins and Currants. Also, how how long do you infuse them in the Rum before adding them? Hopefully this vid answers these questions. :D Anyone tried this brew yet?
So I've plugged the Malt Miller kit recipe for this one into Brewfather and the OG comes out at 1.094, ABV at nearly 11% and IBU at 30. Not at all what the recipe predicts? Has anyone brewed this and got something similar? I plan to do it in a 30L BIAB kettle (with a bit of pre-boil topping up, because, you know, over 8kg of fermentables). Any tips?
All these recipe creators will have different results. The Grainfather one says 9%, but it's going to depend on so many factors. Our mash efficiency on this beer was 78% so a little low, but I'd expect yours to be similar with this grain bill. Also you're mashing pretty warm (67C) so make sure you take that into account.
@@TheCraftBeerChannel cheers. Not really that fussed about efficiency as for BIAB with mesh bag and with no sparge and no recirculation I'm kind of stuck with what I've got. Given that my kettle maxes out at 30L, would you consider doing this as a reiterated mash, or do you think I'll get it all in one go with a bit of topping up pre boil? Don't want the mash to be too thick.
Good lord... The power of beer. I cannot stand raisins or sultanas. Dried fruit of any kind really. Which makes sweet treats at Christmas typically hard to stomach... Mince pies aren't for me. But this video may have just converted me. Can't wait to hear how this turns out.
Haha - this might not be for you but the fact we made you willing it try is either the power of beer or the power of christmas or a perfect storm of both.
What do we think beer geeks? Mince Pie dubbel - disgusting or delicious? Sexy or sacrilegious?
honestly sounds better when you think more and more about it.
Defo agree with the comment. Sounds really interesting. 👍🏻
Looks and sounds superb
What about a sexy sacrilege? :D
Me and a mate wanted to brew a Christmas pudding stout but we didn't get to work on time so a pale it is. I was wondering Johnny, how many liters is your boiler?
Well this deserves way more views. Cheers chaps!
Thanks! Who would have thought a Belgian dark ale with mincemeat would be too niche for TH-cam!?
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Cowards!
You've also inspired me to make an eisbock in me backyard, so ta! :)
This is right up there with the real ale at home video for me. Fantastic brew concept. Great video to go with it.
Thanks Colin! Hoping the beer lives up to the concept!
Milton Glaser T-shirt. Love it!
Brad designed it - a great homage to one of the world's great designers.

I made a dubbel for my Christmas beer this year. No spices but plenty of spice from the yeast. Great video. Happy holidays!!
2016 Brad looks so young and fresh... like the Ghost of Christmas present! 😂
Haha - come closer and know me better, man!
Sounds brilliant. Maybe chuck in some bitter orange peel too for extra mincepieyness? Yum.

Sounds delicious and much like how our pumpkin beer turned out!
So the dance at the end is the best part
Damn straight it is.

Thinking of doing this for my next brew. How did you get on? How was the beer?

Love a good dubbel!!
Feel free to pop a handful of bottles into the direction of Copenhagen, once you are all ready and set. This is mouthwatering to watch!
Got a load of different Belgian beers from Beers of Europe coming for Christmas, going to be a boozy one!

Haha yeah I was thinking that as I brewed. It's done me fine before, but with an 8kg mash that was NOT ideal!
Hope it turns out well!

@@TheCraftBeerChannel it's pretty good! I'd love to send you guys a bottle if you've got a PO box or something :)

Wow that is a lot of sugar! We think we only got about 0.5% extra from it...but erm... we could be wrong!
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Never a bad thing!
Are stout mince pies a thing? I feel they should be, great videos guys, making my day!
I bet they are! We have made Quad ones in the past
Are you doing something to replicate the candied peel tastes in mincemeat? Dry hopping with something orangey tasting might do it.
For this version we're skipping that element of the mincemeat - we wanted to still make sure this still felt like a classic dubbel, so only played with flavours already there

i take it its ok to add the rum raisin mixture in secondary, like in a hop bag?
Should be fine! In a bag you'll get less extraction though
I made an Imperial Stout for Christmas (with a nod to tropical stouts). 50 SRM. Dark times call for dark beers.
I like this phrase. Should be our next homebrew playlist.
