    Emotional and reactionary is definitely not the same thing. You can be aware of your "wild" emotions and yet stay composed. Emotions are a gift, but there is a gray line of how much you control them, and how much you let them flow. It's up to anyone to decide. Mostly these "radical" discussions are not giving you the entire scope. There is absolutely more to life other than being a "firm, composed man".

  • @HarlanDrake

    "Let people suffer and die. They don't need to be convinced of everything that you believe. You're not gonna change people like this, so there's no need to get emotional." This is a brutal truth that reactionary people will misinterpret as cruel pride, but this simply means, "Live and let live." Only by inspiring through example can we truly make a change, so just focus on what you can do at this moment to be the most virtuous man that you can be.

    Sometimes it's important to stand up for what you believe in. Don't be reactionary to everything but there are exceptions to 'just stand back and observe'.

    I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. How a man should relate to emotions. I’ve come to the conclusion that the way to peace and fulfillment in life is through detachment. Detachment from external outcomes, detachment from thoughts, and detachment from emotions. If I can honestly say “it’s okay if *insert thing* happens, and it’s okay if it doesn’t happen”, I’ve won. And if an emotion comes up and I can simply sit with it without allowing it to control me, I’ve won.

    I agree emotions can make a man weak but it can also drive a man to do great things. It is the righteous anger within that makes us want to be better or change a situation. Wisdom and knowledge alone are insufficient, it is spirit (thumos) that gets that ball rolling.
    Emotions drive the world, they are part of what makes us human, what you do with them is the difference between weaknesses or greatness.

    You said "Emotional men are weaklings" based on the motivation which is fueled by your emotions. And there is nothing wront with that. I am saying that emotions is a part of how we work. Ofc one is able to regulate themselves and act on their emotions differently based on their abilities and beliefs. But dismissing emotions as a part of being is simply not good for us. This way we just close the door to self awareness. And without self awareness and acceptance we can't grow. Treat your emotions as a way to self discovery and learn where emotions come from, see if there are beliefs which are not serving your wellbeing. And also remeber that we are partly animals, it is necessary to self regulate and process emotions. You can look it up, but shortly it means being able to tolerate your emotions, sit with them, ride them as if they were a wave and you are the surfer. Also learn self soothing, being compassionate towards yourself. There is more to it. Educate yourselves on these topics guys. You got it ✊️

    Emotions are one of the greatest things in life. You don't want an apathetic, robotic life. It's about learning to be with the emotions but not letting your life be ran by them. Being afraid of the power of emotions is weak. True stregth is to be able to handle any emotion storm that comes your way. Not to be detached and hide away, but to be a strong tree that can handle any storm.

    • @Blakoss
      @Blakoss ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Way I see it, letting your emotions batter you down constantly is a sign of weakness. Being able to control your emotions is a sign of maturity. Also I don’t think he’s talking about suppressing your emotions in the vid, he’s talking about not letting them lead you to poor life choices and unnecessary problems

    • @Paakku97
      @Paakku97 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Blakoss I agree with that. But it's not healthy to say emotions are "bad" or somehow a problem in and of themselves. They're a natural part of the human experience and we just need to learn to not be thrown around by them. Some of the traditional "masculinity" advice will tell you to see the existence of emotions as a weakness, when in reality people are afraid of being seen as weak because they are afraid of their emotions. Let's not be avoidant or afraid of our emotions and lets face them and learn to deal with them. I think that's the path of true strength. Inner strength. Not to fight with the emotions and try to beat them down, but to let them come and let them feed your spirit.

    No offense, but I got to label this one (unintentionally, so don't take it personally, I can tell you're based I just partly disagree with you on this) under: *Accidental Controlled Opposition*
    It comes off less like: _"Stop being emotional, men."_ And more: _"Stop calling out the man behind the curtain. Yes they are doing horrible things that have a downstream DIRECT effect on your and everyone else's life, but ignore them."_ While I agree with at you shouldn't be too concern with things you have no power over, you shouldn't stop calling it out. At the very least, point it out for others to notice. You don't have Alex Jones on them, but there's nothing wrong with stopping a few people and going; _"You see that too, right? "Reactionary" refers to conservative or traditionalist political views and can't really be used the way you use it here.
    Respectfully, I can't really agree that emotional men are weak. Emotions underpin the human experience in all its forms..its how we handle our emotions that matters. But you touch on a subject that is important and its the impotence of spending emotions endlessly lashing out on others online or using likes and clicks on social media for it. It's a mirage of influence and big youtube people does profit on exploiting that emotionality, so in that sense you raise an important point.
    To be the devils advocate here though: While a stoic mindset has its value for personal happiness and mental balance; Would you "observe" a war crime, or would you try to stop it? Having a set of values and protecting them with action is a product of emotion, and it is a reaction.. No one got a medal of honor by observing, no one was pardoned in a trial for crimes against humanity for observing, in fact they are complicit by their inaction either to others or at the end of the day to themselves.
    I would suggest "let people suffer and die while I observe" is not a masculine response. It implies that this external event that is taking place contradicts your personal interests (Self-preservation) and is therefore to be disregarded. Men who disregard their personal safety and interests in pursuit of rescuing others are called heroes for a reason and are the opposite of that. A more nuanced take we may agree on would be to pick your battles.

    One thing I realised is that the world is very subjective. People think that the world is something unique. But the reality is that the world depends on the perspective you have. It's about accepting the what is outside of one's own control. So, if you feel strong emotions, it's best not to dismiss it but to accept it for what it really is, and to be able to live with it until having dealth with.

    Damn, you're so grumpy lately, mate!
    Also, pretty funny that you're saying being emotional is bad, but you're literally on FIYAH for the most part of this video, you're PASSIONate.

    Either you uploaded this because you wanted people to “react” and therefore it would prove your point: “haha look at you emotional weaklings” or you uploaded this so we can have a conversation that can add to the subject of this video.
    I have a feeling that it might be the former, because there is little work done on this video that would help deliver your (in my opinion, valid) message. It seems that you had a sudden revelation and you wanted to vent it out through a instant, single take of a video. But honestly, this sucks. I don’t think you planned this out carefully enough to deliver a cohesive message. I assume some of the audience would receive your words inaccurately due to the lack of detail and nuance in your points.
    Some may misinterpret “take the initiative” as refusing help from others whatsoever. I hope “Don’t be emotional” won’t be taken as “don’t have emotions,” because having them is inevitable and forgiving yourself for having those emotions is also helpful in carefully dealing with emotions.
    You have a great message, so I don’t want it to cause more harm than good.
    *In short*: Sure, you’re not one of those “reactionary” wimps, but I sure hope that you’re not a validation-seeking troll. Great message tho 👍.

    I felt the same way toward covid. Never understood the guys on either side of the argument. Being sheep for getting it or being some sort of conspiracy theorist flatearth NWO person. I just looked at the facts, made my mind up and didnt really took a side on an argument where i felt both sides were off.

    I like some of this, some of this I strongly disagree with. I like debate, and emotion can be very useful. Anger has gotten me far in life. It is a natural reaction to unfairness.
    One thing that we both seem to align with is being your own man with your own philosophy and being a leader. I got a message the other day from my business professor thanking me for my leadership just for doing well and participating. I have been put in leadership positions many times in my life and my long term goal right now is to become a Tech Lead.
    It might be a good idea to private that "Emotional Men are Weak" video since it seems to overshadow things you're doing sometimes due to its popularity and controversial nature.

    Elisha, when was the last time you took a psychedelic? It seems that you're very left brain dominant. Its ok to have emotions and enjoy music. Not everything has to be so serious and logical. Balance those brain hemispheres homie. A spiritual being combines both the masculine & feminine. Don't limit yourself.

      @@ElishaLong I loved TNOTW and its a book I re-read regularly. I found The First Binding to be a bit of a pale reflection of TNOTW as it follows the story but is missing what made the TNOTW truly great. Still worth a read tho and I'm looking forward to seeing where RR Virdi takes the series. I'm guessing he will have finished his trilogy before Rothfuss does lol

    how to remove emotions?

  • @Paakku97
    @Paakku97 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think this doesn't just apply to men but to humans in general. If you let your emotions run your life, life will not be good. Also if you let yourself be run by thoughts, same thing. But suppressing or repressing emotions is just foolish. It's all about learning to handle your emotions.

    • @makingtoast

      Maybe you should talk to your friend first. He might know her qualities better than you do. Who knows you might be dodging a bullet by not dating her. Or she might be your soulmate.
