👋 Hey everyone! I’m Bilge Bahar Saatçi, and I’m excited to share my project-Reconnect-Hub: Kashitu Secondary School!
🏫 This is a school I designed for Zambia, focusing on sustainability, community, and education. My goal is to create a learning space that is not only functional but also environmentally friendly and culturally meaningful.
🌍 I took inspiration from African patterns and nature. The design is based on hexagons-like honeycombs-so the school can easily grow and expand over time.
🏡 The buildings are arranged in small clusters, creating a balance between learning spaces and nature. This layout makes the school feel more like a welcoming village than just a campus.
♻️ Sustainability is at the core of this project. I used:
✅ Compressed earth blocks for the walls, which are strong, natural, and help keep rooms cool.
✅ A combination of thatched and aluminum roofs, providing both shade and natural light.
✅ Large windows and open spaces to allow fresh air to flow, reducing the need for air conditioning.
🌿 I also designed gardens, local trees, and shaded courtyards to create a refreshing and comfortable environment for students and teachers.
🏠 The school is more than just classrooms-it’s a complete learning environment!
✅ The dormitories provide both private and shared spaces, giving students a comfortable place to stay.
✅ Workshops are designed for hands-on learning in agriculture, crafts, and sustainability.
✅ There are sports areas, gardens, and outdoor study spaces to encourage physical activity and interaction with nature.
🌱 For me, Reconnect-Hub is more than just a school. It’s a place where education, culture, and sustainability come together. It’s designed to be adaptable, self-sufficient, and deeply connected to the local community.
By using locally sourced materials and smart design, I created a school that stays naturally cool, is easy to expand, and respects the environment.
