It's Sunday Morning here in the Texas Hill Country and this is Food for the Soul. God Bless Steve Earle and Rodney Crowell and all the other mentioned too.
LOL, I've actually sat and talked with Steve a few different times, one time on his tour bus, one time backstage in Chicago (we talked about baseball). He is a really nice guy but he is a natural talker. But as a songwriter, he's a storyteller and with the lives he's led, he's got a lot of interesting stories to tell. Like it is for anyone, details might be fuzzy or out of proportion, but they're still good stories. For a guy without much formal education, he is extremely smart and well read. And don't forget, he was successful at a young age, so he's constantly asked the same questions and has to deal with obnoxious fans all the time. I've seen him over 30 times and I've never seen him be less than gracious to people.
Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed this. Honest, open. raw. I believe they all were so lucky to have each other. To have people who care enough to cry when you pass is a good thing. I enjoyed all 4 songs equally as well as the story.
❤❤❤❤❤❤. Wow. Amazing stuff. I've never heard this interview. So many good stories. We knew Guy and Suzanna in Houston, in the 60's when I was little. My dad and Mom were in touch with Guy off and on throughout life. Ad an adult, I only got to see Guy a few times. I have always had such a great soft spot in my heart for Guy. This was a treasure to hear!
one of the coolest most outlaw things i ever saw was farmaid 1995 Louisville Ky i was there and so was Steve Earle, the way he took the stage the way he played and the way he left the stage was pure outlaw
I Love Steve and have seen him about 12 times and met him 4 times and as cool as he is David Allan Coe blew them all away when I seen him live in NJ about 2003. He was due onstage around 9pm his band including his son on lead were still onstage playing at 11.45 pm playing in Coes absence they were quite noticeably pissed off. Anyway Coe stumbles onstage just after midnight drinking a bottle of Jack with his confederate flag guitar around his neck and said this is for the bitch mother of my children who took all my money stole my house and kids then went straight into a medley of songs starting with Lucille (Kenny Rogers) now that is outlaw.
@@mrjasondylan when i saw Steve at farm aid he had a warrant on him had not been seen for weeks he showed up had to be snuk in while he was playing about 10 state cops were waiting when he finished they took him to jail pure outlaw . i was lucky enough to see Justin before he died and man he was great just like his oldman he took zero shit lol
'Life Without Susanna' - still waiting impatiently for the documentary, 'Without Getting Killed or Caught' for more about Guy, Susanna, Townes, Steve, Rodney, et al.
What a great bunch of stories! Yeara ago, I heard a song on one of Steve's live albums and the track bleeds over into his into for the song Brown and Root. I couldn't find a copy to listen to (either Earles' and Crowell's version). I sorta forgot about it until today. My grandfather's first big job wqs with Brown and Root after they settled down in Houston in the early 50's. He was hire on as an engineer, so I think he made pretty decent money. Cool, nonetheless.
Then there were two, most of my heroes are ghosts but, I've got two left, when I was growing up there was no one cooler than Roky Erickson and the 13th floor elevators being from Austin but I liked these older eastside cats and even though they weren't what my generation was into, I knew that Guy ,Steve townes, and Rodney and Susanna, were the real deal, and now it's 40 years later rmany have come and gone but as far as standing the.test of time my hometown heroes are still hard to beat! To the last of the last, salute! Townes wherever you may roam I know you're at home.
I love how earl just casually says he "married the craziest girl in Tennessee at the the Nashville Airport, gave away my cabin, and moved to Mexico" as if all that is just completely normal behavior for everyone. ha
@@arlingtonhynes Steve has been married 8 times and is on record as saying he lived in Mexico for a while but came back cause they didn't sell Dr Pepper across the border. It was definitely Steve who said those words.
@@mrjasondylan A lot of people have been married eight times and a lot of people have been to Mexico. Rodney Crowell hasn’t been married eight times, but he did tell that story, and Earle didn’t.

beautifully put! that phrase, most of my heroes are ghosts, is a classic and someone should write a song around it. And I'm with you, no one was cooler than Roky Erickson. So sad that he passed away at the end of last month. So many amazing musicians are dying. That's the only down side to have been around in those days, is that those days are gone. Makes me feel old.
❤️❤️ I knew most of these amazing folks back in the day. Spent many many many hours with Townes, Guy and Suzanna, Rocky, 13th floor elevators, Jerry Jeff and ZZ Top, Rex and Mickey, The Old Quarter I miss those days but what wonderful memories. Steve Earle was not around them so much back then but I told Townes how much I liked his music once and se just grinned. 😄. TRUXILLO ST! Houston TX. I shot the pistol that Steve is talking about. Townes took me to his moms house and we went out shooting cottonmouths all afternoon. What a BLAST! And so Crazy!!!
I wish Steve would shave that beard off. He was a good looking man back in the day ,still is . I think people with beards are hiding something, something deep
Robert D., The _story_ of Steve's life (as told by Steve) can be interesting at times, but as a listener on the outside one never knows where the story and the truth intersect.
I hate it when someone ruins a good story with the facts. I interviewed Steve some years back and I have to say he is an interviewer's dream. He just talks and you keep the tape running. If you see or read enough interviews, you will hear the same stories again, but he's a smart guy and I'll listen to him over and over. And I'll go see him any time he plays near me.
Thing is, Steve was just a teenager when he started hanging out with Guy and the others. He probably does have many stories to tell, as many as he has ex wives. Still, he is an artist and a true friend to Guy. He waited out of respect to right Good bye Michelangelo
Steve wow two legends together towns and Steve can't get much better than this bro

Sometimes you listen and sometimes you cry. Goodbye Michelangelo.
Brown & Root gave me chills
These guys didnt ask for mine with the several songs each they claim are theirs and are actually my storylines
Ok which songs did they steal from you
Steve Earl can really talk. He must be catching up for all of those years that he was just nodding out.
time to give Ft. Worth Blues a spin again....
Last time I heard the story it was 3 shots.
or trying to sell a record
I like to hear him sing .. But he starts talking I'm out ..
