Frontiers are criminally underrated. Larger version of a Dana 44 rear axle, fully boxed frame, full depth frame channels, last NA v6 in a midsize, stayed small, and are reasonably priced. Fantastic trucks and they deserve more spotlight versus people pretending the Tacoma is God's gift to man.

Frontiers are great. Bought one brand new in August of 1999. Nissan frontier desert runner edition 3.3L v6 . Drove it without an issue for 23 years. ( regular maintenance). Awesome.

22/23 Nissan Frontier Pro-4x is the best bang for the buck in midsize trucks. Its 4wd capability is severely underrated by most enthusiast. Ive been loving my 22 (I got an 3” Dobinsons suspension lift) Pro-4x and haven’t needed to use the rear end locker yet off-roading, 4 low has gotten me out of everything so far.

Was giving a Pro4X as a rental in Fresno and I really loved it! Also has the Tacoma TRD as a rental and the frontier was way more comfortable and just felt better! I usually drive a Audi so both were a nice change.

I was at Ft Irwin in the Mohave desert December 2011 for 4 weeks of training for my Afghanistan deployment. Had a nasty sandstorm come through one night as we were loading up to convoy to another base for the night as part of training. I was the driver of the second HMMWV behind the trainer. The sandstorm was so bad he had no idea where he was going. I had my goggles on. Couldn’t see a thing. We were off roading all over the desert because he couldn’t ever find the road. Our tents were blown over and our duffel bags were blown all over the desert the next day. If you go out in the Mohave make sure you’re well prepared.

I would love to get your perspective on different trails and drives. I know you mix in, like this video, trail reviews with vehicle reviews, but maybe have a dedicated channel for trails you all go on. Just a suggestion, thanks for all the great content.

I just think at this point vehicles are so overbuilt that there really are no wrong choices anymore. Not just trucks, but literally most vehicles with their intended purpose kept in mind.
This hit me a while ago when I was reading people complaining that 250hp and a 0-60 in the 7-8 second range wasn't enough, for a family crossover. You know, a frumpy people mover designed to get you from A-B at the speed limit. 250 was not enough somehow to do that. That was a huge reality slap for me, that people will never be happy unless this years specs have higher numbers than last years, even if last years was already more than they needed.

The boxed frame limits flex and articulation., Much weight in the back it crack the frame. The frame should flex (c channel). At the least the suspension should flex. Tires being off the ground is a failure. It dispersing all weight to fixed points. Not good. Also if they aren't on the ground no traction. This truck, like all boxed rigid frames will break with this setup. Long suspension and channel articulating is way to go. Doing what they are leads to changing lots if front end parts, wheel bearings. It failed in its setup.

A few very small modifications will resolve the few tiny issues I have with this truck, easy.

I’m around 6” and 180 pounds and I find it kind of cramped. I have a hard time getting a good seat position when I’m driving. My right knee tends to rest or hit the dash and the grab handles on the center console. I find the gas pedal to be too upright, for my liking. My knee tends to hurt after a little. The seats are actually smaller width wise, and the arm rest is wider in return. So I often find myself sitting on the bottom boster padding left or right occasionally. Back seats are another story. Overall I like it. I can live with it. I had a 13’ Tacoma and I found it more comfortable but that’s just my opinion.

I can change the suspension to longer travel and and a 2 inch lift on my own expense with the money I'd be saving compared to buying a ZR2 colorado or an AT4X canyon which are really over priced up here.

Man I bet you'd see some of that mud out there now! I've been itching to check out the Mojave Trail for years, living vicariously through y'all here! 😅
