I feel like Zack Snyder can't string together a coherent plot because he's basically a little kid who doesn't like to read. He started out by remaking another movie, so he already had a plot. Then he moved on to graphic novels, where he didn't think he had to read anything because he could just recreate a bunch of pictures on the screen and that would be enough. It didn't matter what the pictures meant in the context of the books' plots or the plots of his own films, it sure was easier than reading one of those long-ass "script" things other directors are always talking about.Then he decided to be a big boy and adapt a book with no pictures, which just so happened to be a children's series about owls. That one was a real strain on his mind but hey, he did it. Progress. At long last he felt ready to try writing his own story. And the result was Sucker Punch. Needless to say, after that film Zack decided it would be best to go back to recreating comic panels into something that might potentially make a little bit of sense. The output hasn't been good so far but hey, it pays well.
Still my favorite review because of the hype building up for this film and fans already praising it as a masterpiece before seeing the movie, then korey just nails it in the head.

This is the ultimate guilty pleasure film. You wanna sit and watch heavily armed hot women with guns and swords fight dragons, robots and orcs for two hours, this is your movie. Looking for a good story and narrative? Ehhh not so much.
Jena Malone should pretty much star in nothing but bad movies at this point to be perfectly honest, which explains why she was the love interest in Donnie Darko.
I remember when I first saw this movie, I loved it, a few days later, it was ok. A few more days, I bloody hated it! Prehaps I was blinded by all the special effects. Once I looked pass them, I began to realize that this movie had very little substance topped with a confusing story.
Sucker Punch was silly, confusing, and badly told... but harmless. If you listen to Zack Snyder, he said the main influence of this movie is Terry Gilliam's Brazil which is one of his all-time favorite movies. Watch that movie and you'll probably appreciate Sucker Punch a little more. Snyder is one of my favorite working directors and I think he's a really smart guy but I do agree this is his worst outing. It's a scar he'll carry the rest of his career but it's one of those scars you look at and learn from it, maybe be a little proud about.
Sucker Punch officially turns 10 today! I remember seeing it with my friends Tom and Liz. It is still one of my favorite movies and most anticipated of 2011. Love the soundtrack and how it conveys the idea of losing grip on reality, the merchandise, the movie's metaphorical and symbolic meanings. Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, and Jena Malone are good to watch. My first introduction to Oscar Issac. The fantasy sequences are fun but the real world scenes are kinda slow. Slick cinematography and terrific visuals. Like a giant music video of Alice in Wonderland meets machine guns. I admire the main girl who has the difficult task of trying to escape the mental institution but also escaping into her mind fighting various archetypes of the bad men who run it. Ok so it has according to most a misogynistic view of women, Snyder argued that it was actually a commentary on sexualisation and geek culture. It did pave more opportunities to cosplay at conventions. Still can't believe this was the very first blu ray I ever purchased. The extended version is way better. I think time has definitely been kinder to this movie.

I have to disappoint you. As hard and as much as you try to offend me, a person that adores this movie, you fail as hard as humanly possible. You don't get the movie. So, if something is not spelled out in big capital letters for the dumbest person in the audience/you guys and you thus don't get it, it's a bad movie...great logic. Well, have fun with Transformers 3, the probably best movie in the world according to this logic of yours. I keep on enjoying my "Heavy Metal"-esque movies.
