You are doing a great service to the dive community by exploring and reporting on all the dive sites along the west coast. For example, I didn’t know that the diving in Puget Sound could be so good until your videos opened my imagination. My best dive ever was at north Monastery with 65’ of visibility. Thanks for showing people how beautiful Monterey diving can be!

I am a relatively inexperienced diver, but was trained through the California state university in Monterey for my basic certification and was starting my advanced rescue certification through the school. Was a great experience, but unfortunately due to covid causing me to change schools it's a hobby I never continued. Really liked the footage, and would totally recommend breakwater and mcabee, haven't dived point lobos or otter cove. I have dove at monastery; and as such, I do feel the warning for monastery was, lacking? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the term "advanced divers", but I do feel monastery deserves more than just that. My class at the university gave us about an 20 minute long instruction on how to safely enter and exit, and atleast a single demonstration before allowing us to even attempt. For anyone looking at this site, all I can really say is to be safe; the entry in my memory is very steep, and the lull in the waves can be relatively challenging. It is not uncommon (even for my instructor) for a diver to be knocked over and tossed about on the sand; keep your respirator in your moth at all times, and keep hold of it with one of your hands. In the case you are knocked over on entry or exit, do not attempt to restand. A crawling exit once you are knocked over will be the safer option. If you wish to try your entry again, do so once you have recovered and are out of the water after being knocked over. It happens to the best of us, I promise.

Oh I have 2 videos specifically about monastery and the dangers/techniques of diving there. I probably should’ve added a title in this video like ‘*see previous videos for techniques’ so you’re totally right there, but the info is on my channel. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Sea urchin populations exploded off the Oregon coast because of a decline in the sun starfish population due to a sea star wasting syndrome. Is this related? Like is the predator for the sea urchin not around as much in Monterey?
