Neglected to say how to put the rubber rings back on when the glass was boiling hot from the oven. Quite an important part to miss out. Good video besides that.
I boiled the seals on the jars...just cover the jars and open lids with boiling water and simmer 10 minutes. Take them out of the boiling water and shake dry. I use kitchen thongs to lift them out and flip them upside down to dry out for a second before filling with food.
I had a bear of a time trying to put a super hot rubber ring on a super hot glass jar when I tried to do it this way. I ended up with a failed seal because I don't think I managed to put it on tight enough. Trying @applegal3058 's method next time
Ditch the music! I thought this was about sterilizing jars but most of the video was just someone putting stuff into jars and trying to talk over totally unnecessary music.
Ok ok, the video answered my question really nicely… but… My weird brain couldn’t help but notice that at 2:02 you pretended to close a lid (the print didn’t turn) and add the sound in post!
Music plays so loud. I got confused. You mean we wont coll down the food and the jar? Are we going to put the food hot while the jar is hot? And seal it while its hot?
For Ball glass jars with the 2 metal lid components, any chance someone knows how to keep the lids conditioned? Any specific kind of oil such as coconut, olive, etc?
no... you shouldn't add anything to the lids. Keep them clean, warm them in hot water before use, and discard if rusty, edges dented, or the rubber is wearing thin
Exactly. Talk about showing people how not to do it. She didn't wipe the top of the jars either to get a good seal. Also nothing to give a vacuum apart from the heat of the food. Very poor advice imo!
I found the rubber seals difficult to chew, should they be boiled for longer?
Probably, while mine were a little tough, I found that quite enjoyable😍
🤣
When you said "the same way" for the rings and lids, did you mean in the oven at the same temperature?
In the pot with boiling water :)
High 5! I wondered that also. When you are a beginner such as myself, you need the instructor to be explicit... glad you asked the same question.
Same question. Not at all clear from the video. I assume she means in the oven but it’s anybody’s guess.
You definitely hit the edge of your jar. 😂
Did you Sterilise the jug & ladel you used to transfer the chutney to the Sterilised jars?
Or the counter top 😂
Didn't you contaminate the chutney when you put it in the NON sterilised jug?
No. The chutney is still hot and organisms can't survive at that temperature.
Yep, although it shouldn't make much difference for short time storage. If you decide to go into mycology this would be an issue though

Best way to sterilize jars I've seen yet!
That chutney looks delicious. Do you have a recipe?

but the jug isnt sterilised?
Ok ok, the video answered my question really nicely… but…

Do you sterilise the jug too? 🤔
Music plays so loud. I got confused. You mean we wont coll down the food and the jar? Are we going to put the food hot while the jar is hot? And seal it while its hot?
Yes and yes, put the hot food in the hot jars and seal the lids down straightaway 😉

Does anyone have a link for the easiest way to put the clips on...
Thank you, love the vid
So after sterilising, where do you store it? Fridge? Freezer? Storage?
Do you have to put water on the tray where you put you jars?
You don't have to :)
I did not see the jug being sterlised !! Whats the music for : just to distract and annoy !! ?
Isn't it the same as popping it in the dishwasher?
When we make yogurt, can we put it inside the hot jars?
No. Wait for them to cool off
I got confused about the other screw-on lids
Place in the pot with boiling water :)
@@LenInspires it doesn't need to be boiling water any more. You can use hot water to soften the seals, but not boiling.
Take note: This is the BBC so reversing all that's said would be better
Why my jars brake when I tried this?
you need to add hot content to hot jars. Or cold content to cold jars and then process in a waterbath.
I wouldn't recommend using a jug, you need one of those jar collars
Why do the Kilner screw top jars come in 2 pieces? Surely all you need is a single screw lid?
You still alive?
Wax paper and cellophane are a nightmare. I used this method once and the jam went mouldy. Bacteria on wax seal.
Mould is caused by a fungus not bacteria.
Good vid
The BBC is the best. Enjoying the videos!
These should go in a hot water bath to sterilize and seal them properly
Exactly. Talk about showing people how not to do it. She didn't wipe the top of the jars either to get a good seal. Also nothing to give a vacuum apart from the heat of the food. Very poor advice imo!
Ima go sterilize my weed jars now lol
What if I am not storing hot stuff? I want to put kidney beans in my jars. I just wait till they are cool?
Yes, you can wait until they are cool, at which point they will be sterile 😊
@@GoodFoodty. Literally 100 videos give you this method but no one tells you
Brits love canning and freezing food even eggs they freeze it
you should get yourself a canning funnel.
Kilner jars , priced as if made in uk but " sourced globally " . Made in China ?
Proceeds to touch all over the jar and drip down the sides.. and put the mix in a non sterilised jar lol
