#gtncoachescorner Hey! Thank you for the great content! I have a question regarding intermittent fasting and race day. As I'm carboloading days before, should I decrease the fasting window before the start? I'm doing mostly 70.3 and full distances, and if I would stick to my normal routines, I should stop eating around 2-3 pm the day before. What are your recommendations?
#gtncoachescorner I've noticed that professional short course triathletes fold their tongue over the tops of their shoes for faster transitions. Do they alter their shoes in some way to do this? Does that not make the shoe too loose? I'm trying to figure it out so I can do it as well but I want to make sure my shoes will still be tight enough to run in.
I've also had this toenail problem, along with several teammates, and what we all found was that if your shoe allows any forward movement of your foot, so that it hits any part of the toe box, you will get black toenails and lose them. Totally agree with Mark on lacing your shoes over using speed laces. We've tried thicker sox, thin sox, lube on our foot, etc., but what ended up fixing this for us at least, was getting shoes that fit better around the mid section and lacing properly.
#GTNCoachesCorner First things first, thank you for all your awesome content! it really helps to stay motivated. I have a swimming related question: For running and biking you hear a lot about zone 2 and low intensity training as it really helps you to get faster in the long term, but I heard in a few potcasts that this does not apply to swimming. As somebody without any swimming background and no swimming clubs with free spots in my area, I wonder if I should remove my slow steady swim sessions from my training plan and focus on doing mostly interval and threshold Sessions. Thank you for your help :)
There are a few things you can try to help prevent it. Make sure your running shoes fit properly and aren't too tight, as this can cause friction and pressure on your toes. Trim your toenails regularly.
Have you got any questions for our GTN presenters? 🤔
