america is too big and diverse for that to happen, we invented baseball, basketball, and american football and i think thats enough for now, the nfl and mlb both attracting way more money tha even the premier leagues, and players get multimillion dollar contracts, id say whatever we did, we did it right

They need to say this to even get any traction in the US, my friend worked for a sports media company in the US and a prominent American Sports Media personality, was asked about rugby and he said "I couldn't give a shit about that sport", this is a now a guy with his own media/sports media company. So I give them a pass.

hes very fast and his speed endurance is unreal...but to call him the best rugby player on the planet is a complete insult. He is one of the most effective sevens players...but would struggle to even get a pro contract in xv's due to his size.

In NZ we don't realize what goes on in other rugby inspired countries. We realistically have lots of money to draw on, super star players and many other resources. These types of stories are quite sobering...

I love how rugby is growing in USA, and I enjoy watching best Perry plays, some of them are awesome, but let's be clear, 7´s to rugby is like streetbasketball to NBA, yeah is great to watch, its fun to watch, but the sport is rugby 15, and if you want to call the best rugby player, you have to play 15, and play Against, England, All Blacks, Boks, Wallabies, Argentina, and beat them. If not, be a little more humble, and don't make those statements that are completely false. Best players in the world, the ones from great Rugby Countries, don't play sevens. Its like going down in the scale for them. I think USA will improve a lot in the next years, and will be a strong country, but that is in the future.

Taking nothing away from the man I like watching but, would he compare to Tuisova or maybe Semi Radradra or Nemani Nadolo? These are real freakish beasts of rugby in both codes but thats only an insignificant fraction of the number of greatest rugby players. Perry is exciting but he has to be in both codes to become a candidate for that tag. Its a team sport in two codes. Not all good players can play both.

7s Rugby is a great game but the 15 aside team is a step up again, at which level the New Zealand All Blacks team is the perennial favourite to win "best' team award. For more than a century current world champions the South African Springboks have challenged the All blacks with considerable success, along side England, Ireland, Wales and France but only occasionally. The globally acknowledged best players of the game of Rugby usually play for these teams. The All Blacks regularly produce iconic players like Jonah Lomu, Beaudan Barrett, Dan Carter, Richie Mc Caw....the list goes on...not to cast aspersions on Perry Baker, but your title is misleading and disservices him as he is a great player in his own right. Keep it real bro.

I agree with most people in the comment section saying perry is nowhere near the best player in the world but saying 7s isn't even as difficult as 15s is capping way too much. Do you guys realize that several big name 15s players tried to make it into the 7s teams for their respective countries to win an Olympic gold but failed to get into their national teams ?
Look it up. One of the only 15s players that were able to make it into their national 7s teams for the Olympics was sonny bill Williams but he didn't even perform half as good as he would In a 15s game when he tried out 7s. Sonny bill Williams said himself that sevens training is more exhausting than 15 aside. Heck even the ioane brothers started in sevens and were good and when they moved to 15s they still played as good as they would in sevens. Yall need to stop it when saying that 7s players can't play 15s because they would get destroyed because we've seen time and time again that 7s players can succeed in 15s. Did yall forget that the Great Jonah Lomu started in 7s?

Yes some 7s players won't survive in 15s because they aren't built well enough like perry but their are several that moved and are still moving to 15s and are doing well. The fact is some 15s players won't do well in 7s because of the pace of the game and some 7s players won't do well in 15s because they lack the physical strength, end of discussion, they both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Ummm I'm thinking that 'Best in the world' (debatable) title refers to his running with the ball?? Does he have a step in crowded traffic? Can he run through or over tackles? Does he tackle? Can he scavenge for the ball when it goes to ground? Does he make himself available in the line when on attack to make sure of continuity of play? Can he take a tackle and still play after? What is he like on cover defense? Not sure why the 'Best in the World' title was given to him. Over all this of course is the glaring assumption that Rugby 7's is the only form of rugby. He would be invisible or injured in 15's. Nice video tho'.

@@Tylar122 Firstly I want to see WHO the people were who voted him best rugby player. Was Bill Beaumant included in that voting panel? What about Eddie Jones, O'Driscoll, Peinaar, Leivremant? Who voted him best player. Second, the 15's players were used in both codes until their respective country Rugby Boards declared that the skills, fitness levels and time commitments meant that both codes would suffer without any real benefits if 15's players went to 7's as well. (7's guys are still transitioning to 15's EG Caleb Clark but it's a one time thing only. Once you get to 15's that's it. game over for 7's) There were exceptions of course for instance Sonny Bill Williams but these were few. I'm still doubting your point that the IRB voted him best rugby player. I don't recall them all offhand but Beauden Barrett, Dan Carter and Richie McCaw, all ALL BLACKS, have tied that title up about 5 - 6 times in the last 10 years.

@@Tylar122 just checking comments it seems you have been arguing with a few others on TH-cam they have been saying the same thing that I have been saying
I think you are probably from the USA and I can see you want to defend any American players
But all I and others on here have been trying to explain to you that most of the top tier rugby union teams in the world only see 7s as a side issue its 15 a side that matters and will Always
Matter there have been some great 7s players from all over the world but when they move up to 15 a side
They never ever seem to be as good
Plus you keep on about the USA winning against new Zealand 7s and you keep saying my team
I don't think I have ever said what team I support
But all and other people commenting on this have said to you that yes USA may be good at 7s but when they step up to rugby union
15 a side where the real game is the USA are only a 2nd or 3rd tier rugby union country
I am 66 year old Welsh rugby fan been watching rugby most of my life
My team Wales have had some of greatest rugby union players ever to play the game plus Wales are always in the top ten rugby
Nations in the world
I don't mind an occasional 7s game but 15 a side is what all rugby fans want to see
So get that chip off your shoulder and listen to more people who have rugby in their blood like me and others who have been commenting on here
