I love Rivian for bringing attention to this. I do think it's worth highlighting non-EV solutions, such as the need to re-think our city planning and build places where cars aren't the only option. E-bikes, transit, walkability are critical in the fight against climate change, as well as EV solutions for the cars that remain.
@@svroundabout They are definitely worth checking out! We were able to part with one of our cars since picking up a couple e-bikes. Of course, our life situation helps, but e-bikes are much more capable car-replacements than regular bikes. We use ours to haul groceries, take our son to daycare, etc. Now, we're just waiting for the R2 to replace our one (EV) car.
Car or EV is not the optimal solution, the sheer number of CO2 produced based on EV is staggering, Especially vehicles with larger batteries such as GMC Hammer EV typically produce more CO2 emissions than most petrol/Hybrid cars. An more appealing public transportation system is more effective than buying an EV.
@@albertge3495 ours replaced a suburban. It would have been a new burb or the r1s. I think we chose wisely as we charge mostly with solar. The kids have bolts. I wish every citizen of the U.S. and globally could see this video. Such clear messaging with the clarity and visual dynamics I've come to expect of Rivian in their vehicles. Rivian and RJ, please keep up the fight for decarbonization and caring for and enjoying our planet.
Dude, the citizens of the US just voted for the “drill, baby, drill” president. The guy who hates windmills. There’s no decarbonization happening from the US government in the next 4 years and 99.9% of private companies have no particular incentive to stop polluting.
I've always been fascinated by how enormous our trees were before the 1800s, when settlers arrived and clear-cut much of the Pacific Northwest. I wonder if, had those massive trees still been around in large numbers, we would have lower carbon levels today.
@@dominicwilkerson Actually, harvesting trees for long-term construction would be one of the ways to reduce climate change. Once a tree is fully grown, it doesn't bind additional carbon. So it makes sense to harvest it and make room for other trees to take its place, binding more carbon. ..only to be harvest a few years or decades later. That way we can store carbon long-term. Only thing is, it should be quality buildings meant to last many decades or even hundreds of years.
@@damianm-nordhorn116 When you cut ANY tree, you harm the nature. Trees are not just construction material. They provide resources for many lifeforms. Even if planted by humans. When you cut trees, you destroy a lot - only 50% of CO2 is in harvested part, the rest is in root, soil etc. Finally, they will emit almost as much CO2 and methane - as the wood you've harvested. FYI - most forest science is founded by lumber companies, they invent all kinds of reasons why cutting trees is good. Great video. I hope Rivian can find success outside of North America because I think the majority of Americans have shown they really don't care that much about climate change as an issue via their vote.

Cyclists create a lot of nuisance for pedestrians, as they overuse sidewalks and trails. They also harm buses, as they slow down traffic and take a lot of space for parking etc. Cities like Paris changes their mind and started to limit all 2-wheelers - they had many people wounded, even killed. It's a solution for few, for some locations only - but an additional trouble for almost everybody.
Thanks for the call R.J. and thanks for the R1S. I thought my wife's Honda Civic Hybrid was amazing back in 2002. It taught me how to drive more efficiently with on demand MPG data. Our 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid allowed us to expand our family with room for our second child. A used 2013 Tesla Model S took our love of driving to a completely different level in 2018 with all electric propulsion. In 2023, our family's ability to explore was expanded even further with our R1S. Love the sand-mode and snow mode... technology is indeed AWESOME!
I loved seeing the original R1s doing cold weather testing in Northern Minnesota. Hopefully we will still have cold weather in the future to keep testing.
Thank you for a clear and convincing video. Like RJ, I too liked gas cars, but I now like my EV even more. We are all capable of growing to like the new cleaner technology.
Nice video and topical topic. I own 4 different EV’s including a Rivian and was convinced after my first one, EV is the way to go forward for me and my family. Big fan of RJ and Rivian. I would however, like to see more public progress in regards to Rivian’s plans to support and supply greener energy to countries in need. It was supposed to be through the use of battery packs for storage and other ideas. I know they are new and don’t have a vast supply of “spent” batteries for this. Just won’t to here they haven’t abandoned it. Would like to see them supply home backup options too some day.
Great video and lovely message. It's nice that you're still hopeful. I lost hope and at this point, I don't even think, that there will be history books in 2000 years. Maybe not even in 500 years. We've known the consequences for a long time. 5 years ago, there was a big movement (especially in Europe) for green energy and it died almost as fast as it has risen. Politically we've made one or two steps forward since then and are now about to make like 5 to 10 steps back. There is almost no country left, where green politics have any influence anymore. They're all on the decline. Maybe there will be a comeback at some point. But by then, all we can do is mitigate the damage. The 1,5 degree goal is mostly gone now. And there are too many people who just don't care. The people who really care are a small minority. There is always something that is more important to most people. War, financial problems, comfort, ideology... There are so many things, that impact the opinions of people more directly and you can't fault them for most of it. Climate change is a slow process thats not even visible to most people. It doesn't affect them now. And when it affects them to a degree that really harms them, it will be far to late. And even then, there will be many people who will just shut their eyes. This is not a call to do nothing. It's desperation. I've fought for a long time and nothing really changed. It's the same since the 80ies. So I wish you and us the best of luck and a lot of endurance. Maybe something will change at some point. But my fight is over because I'm just too exhausted.
