A outstanding example of a gone by era by Honda no doubt a good Allrounder . robust simple reliable a good balance of useable power . Love the wheelie at the end .
That bike is so clean.. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I had a 400ex with the big bore kit, making it a 440 with a racing cam. Loved that atv, plenty of power
Thanks Ken I hope wherever the XR goes it’s ridden Soup my neighbor is a old swamp yankee an absolute icon hope the wizard likes the Rick Johnson memorabilia ! The. Xr is really the perfect size in the XR lineup I bought a WR 250 R to replace the XR so I won’t be without and I like the electric start!
This is great seeing some love for the xr400r! Hard to find many videos on these bikes and especially the 400r, it seams like most people go from the smaller xr’s and skip up to the 650 but the 400 is such a great bike for all around riding. Thanks for the great video!
Mark Kus ,what's up brother.that Stumpjumper you sold me got built !!.damn I wish I knew you had this ,I would've bought it. Ken Love the channel Ct/New England Riders Rock !!
I had a 1998 XR400 converted to dual sport in California once upon a time. I rode it mostly in the desert and the biggest problems were it was heavy, head shake, fork flex, and lack of an electric start. I ended up selling it and replaced it with a Yamaha WR250F.
I had a 1996 XR-400 and I rode the New England Turkey Run series ... I had 2 XR-250's before the XR-400 ... I use to use the BAJA Designs lighting kits to make mine street legal here in Massachusetts.
I wish I could send pics in the comments. Currently ride crf450r but man I love that yz400f, I’ve had the 98,99 and a 2001 426. Personal favorite is the 98 but obviously they improved some things over the years. Honda’s make great power and are known for reliability but yamahas the new Honda. They make amazing bikes that rip and last
The 01’ 426f hits so hard it’s ridiculous. I’ve had a 98 yz400f, 00 yz426f, 2005 wr450f, and now I have a 2001 yz426f street legal and don’t plan on ever ever selling it. I think about the damn thing almost every day 😂
Awesome to see this bike. Super low hours/miles. I have a 2004, the last year Honda made them. If this bike really has the factory graphics then its a 2003. It's the same bike, just a slight difference in the tank graphics.
your right you never see the xr 400 street legal they were a hot bike to have when they first came out i have a qustion i always thought the xr 650 was air cooled i seen one liquad cooled is the xr 650l air/oil cooled n the xr650 off road bike liquad cooled
@@mikestowe6136 Not really dude, both bikes were the ultimate machine for the purposes they were designed for. The 650L is the ultimate tough all-rounder street/trail machine for all day, everyday use. The XR650R is a purpose built desert racer that won everything in its day. XR650R would have been nicer with an electric start though, and it still made a good trailbike. The motor can wear quick on XR650R if its used hard.
Nice clean bike but if its a 2004 the tank decal is not correct. 2004 Factory tank decals had the XR logo in silver and the 400R in yellow. That is a 2003 style tank decal not 2004.
the 400 is one of the few XRs i’ve never owned (4x250s, 600 & 2x650r)….the extra 150cc and lack of a 6th gear never did it for me…. test road a couple and never bothered…
I think it really has a special place in the lineup because the 650L is it L is such a monster very heavy and the 250 it's 250 it's under powered it's kind of like goldilocks and the 3 bears This one is just right
That man is in great shape for being 91 years old. Good on him.

91 years old in great shape and still around bikes !
That's a great fun bike there for someone, with a simple air cooled motor 😀
I had a street legal xr400r with a pumper carb and fmf. I really regret selling it.

Apocalypse bike for sure🤣. Beautiful.
And I still can't find a bike and if I do it's on the other side of the country
Awesome find
Would like to see full family of xr,s there 👍🇬🇧
Thanks Ken I hope wherever the XR goes it’s ridden Soup my neighbor is a old swamp yankee an absolute icon hope the wizard likes the Rick Johnson memorabilia !

Now that’s a bike 👍😎
Thanks I loved it
2 wheel tank, reliable and fun👍
love it....keep the XR's coming Ken! now you just need to find that cherry XR650R liquid cooled unicorn that's out there somewhere!
I'm hunting

That’s what I bought!!!
U know Y because XR'S RULE.
THANK'S from NOR-CAL!!!!!!
It a diamond
I have a street legal xr400, it's bad ass, it's my only form of transport.
mine is xr400r street legal, but no key, same can as your has too, 2003.
I had a 1996 XR-400 and I rode the New England Turkey Run series ... I had 2 XR-250's before the XR-400 ... I use to use the BAJA Designs lighting kits to make mine street legal here in Massachusetts.
That’s what on this bike
very nice machine
1998 yz400f is an amazing machine that is vastly underrated. People don’t understand the power they make and how well they handle
I had 2 a year from 98 to 2003 and ride then til 2016
My 2010 450 i ride rail 2017 won 16 championships on yamaha 4 stroke

XR650L is an air cooled, electric start engine, all day trail bike, XR650R is a liquid cooled, kickstart only, desert eating beast.
@@Wasagoodyear-qf8wj that sucks ya think theyd put the liquad cooled in the street verson to

Looked all over for one an XR 400 6 months ago when I finally just went ahead and bought a Yamaha WR 450f .....
And the money shot, up hill wheelie👍👏👏
That's perfect, literally perfect!
Ken I simply MUST see pics or video of your Plated 98 YZ400!!!!
