      I think a Sega Master System forecast would be interesting. It is kind of on par with the TG16 as far as the success goes stateside.

    Thanks for the video with all the information on the system. I bought a base system back in the 90’s and a few games. Later in the 90’s when the company went out of business a local game store was selling base turbo graft systems for $5 and games for $1. I bought 4 used base systems and a lot of the games. NEC Technologies was 20 minutes from where I lived and I used to go there and play games before they were released in return for filling out a survey. One time they even gave me my favorite game for the system, Neutopia II. I still have the game factory sealed in the box. They also gave me some promotional material which consisted of 5 by 7 inch cards which had the artwork of the box of the game and a written description of the game. I still have these cards too. It is interesting to find out now that some of the games are worth over $100 now because I remember seeing those turbo graft game cards for $1 in used game bins at small game stores in the 90’s. Back then you could also buy a converter that attached to the Turbo Grafx that played PC Engine games. I bought a lot of those too for $1 back in the late 90’s at small game stores with used games...

    Turbografx 16 and it’s games are very expensive because everyone that has a Turbografx wants a complete set. I have a Turbografx 16 but will not buy every single game that was ever made for it.
    That doesn’t mean that the games will continuously go up in value exponentially forever. That is not how collectible markets work.
    Eventually, there will be a time when people will lose interest in it and will not be paying $100s on its games. Awhile ago a payed several hundred dollars per several games just because I thought they were cool and I wanted them.
    I think I want to buy the Turbo Drive card because you can get every single game ever released on the system. That is really awesome!

    The TurboGrafix is way too expensive to collect for. I just use the Wii U. The Wii U Virtual Console has a ton of TG-16 games on it, and is my go-to TG player. It has a lot of really great games. Especially shooters!

      Nefarious Wes - During 1989, I wanted/purchased a Turbografx 16 only, because my brother had an NES and my cousins had a Sega Genesis, so I wanted to be different and got TG16 instead. Bonk and Keith Courage were memorable and fun, but Bloody Wolf stoke the show for me.
      I don’t remember when, but I did sell the system to get new games and next gen systems, but I managed to buy back many of my TG16 games, system, and associated hardware over the years on eBay.

    This was fantastic Nick.
    How can the CD add-on result in a dead system? Does it overload and burst the caps or something?
    The overall trends seem to point to a... CRASH!!! Haha ok not really but not nearly keeping the exponential rates like they had in the last decade.
    I’d be hesitant to collect for a system that is subject to so many problems and system failures. Emulation is the savior!

    • @SuperNicktendo
      @SuperNicktendo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Should have gone into more detail about the addon. Blown caps and a lot of moving parts means that you don't see a lot of those around. The cd unit itself comes out of the addon for some reason. Very early cd system that had a lot of flaws.
      As pricing goes : they're leveling off and I think you'll see that they either don't rise at all or the rare games will stay in a private collection somewhere and the system will be just a distant memory.

    You were kind of right with your comments of common turbografx issues. I repair/mod these systems so I can inform. US Turbografx systems do NOT suffer from Bad capacitors. In fact, they are very reliable(other than the built in RF jacks). Here is a list of the systems that do NOT suffer from Bad capacitors. US TurboGrafx, jp pc engine, jp coregrafx 1&2, jp pce shuttle, jp Duo-r and rx, and jp super grafx. Here is a list of all the turbo grafx and PC engine variations that do suffer from Bad capacitors. Duo systems(both us and jp. Black case), turbo Express / PC engine GT portable, gray super CD-ROM 2 CD drive, PC engine LT, white PC engine CD ROM 2 drive and some black tg-16 CD-ROM drives. All of these systems can end up being very reliable once the capacitors and other standard maintenance is done.

I picked up 10 x Turbografx 16 boxed games, and a couple of PC Engine games (Street Fighter Championship Edition and Operation Wolf). I also picked up the arcade Hucard to play to Neo Geo ports down the line. It's a great system, and one that I had always wanted for the last 30 years! Funny. If I started collecting back in the late 90s, everything would have been dirt cheap. Everybody was all about the Play Station and N64. The 8 & 16-bit games were practically given away in garage sales or store bargain bins. Ah well, at least the mini is coming out soon. BTW, something can't lose 160% in value. If that were true, a game worth $100 would then be worth -$60. Instead of selling it to you for $100, I'd have to GIVE it to you and an extra $60 as well.

    I never had the TG16 growing up, but I was aware of it. I've played a few of the games on my Raspberry Pi, and they're pretty cool. A few years ago I heard about this thing called the PC Engine, and when I looked it up I was surprised to see that it was the Japanese name for the TG16. I liked the PC Engine's name and design better. The TG16 is a bit bulky for my taste.
    If I had my choice, the top console to get the Classics treatment would be the PC Engine. I love mini consoles, and I would buy a PC Engine Classic for sure!

    • @Frank_D
      @Frank_D 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. I've got a bunch of those Neo Geo games on my Switch, and those are awesome.
      I'm definitely curious to see if they make more with the online subscription service as opposed to just offering classic games on the eShop and using the proceeds to maintain their online service. I know personally, I'm likely to spend more than $20 per year on those games in the eShop (quite a bit in fact, based on what I spent on the Neo Geo games), but there are people who aren't going to care about these classic games.
      I don't know. I feel like it's better to be able to buy it outright as opposed to paying for a service that will shut down one day. In 10-20 years when I boot up my Switch, I'll still have those Neo Geo games, but when Nintendo discontinues the online service the games that are part of the service are gone.

    The Turbo Grafx 16 mini will lower the price of many of the expensive games, especially if you mod the new mini system which hopefully will be possible as all the other mini systems can be moded, if that's the case then you can actually add ALL the games for the TG16 onto your new mini.

    • @SuperNicktendo
      @SuperNicktendo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This might be the first Mini to actually do that. The SNES and NES classics didn't do that much to curb prices, but given the outlandish prices of the TGX16, we might see a serious drop

    I had a Turbografx in 1991, then later got the CD add on and in 1992 got the TurboDuo to replace them, and picked up the Turbo Express when it lowered to $199 and offered 5 free games. Unfortunately I had to sell off my collection in 2010 after a job loss and a break up with my ex.
    I’ve recently been acquiring games again and this time mostly opting for the PC engine. I’m mainly buying HuCards off eBay, and getting Reproductions of the CD games. Now I don’t own a PCengine, Turbografx or a Duo…. But I will be getting the Analogue Duo to play these titles. I know this isn’t a common method of collecting but it’s how I want to do it. I’m able to buy mostly new software via reproductions and a brand new console that will play everything in one system. And I can supplement what PCE works doesn’t make with clean like new or even in some cases new/sealed vintage pieces.
    I’m not going with Turbografx North American titles for the most part because they are just ridiculously expensive now, and I had that style of media for 20 years, so I’m happy to get the Japanese variants plus they have better packaging and art design in my opinion. I do have a couple US copies though (splatter house and ninja spirit) anyways, that’s my rant…. Maybe it helps someone else wanting to get into this and seems put off by the pricing.

    If you're including every game ever made for the system in that $20k figure, and especially if you're basing prices off of the more recent, second-hand market, then it'd be far cheaper than most systems' entire game libraries, including the NES... Just not really an important metric at all, and quite misleading.

    • @SuperNicktendo
      @SuperNicktendo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure why this is misleading when I titled the video " Here is why a complete Turbo Grafx 16 set costs $20,000" and not " the Turbo Grafx set is more expensive than any other console on the planet"
      I don't even compare the prices to the NES or any other console for that matter.

    • @aiRCoft
      @aiRCoft 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SuperNicktendo I understand, but does that title not imply that that's an unusually high price for such? It's literally stating that the video contains an explanation of why it's so expensive, which was precisely my point of mentioning other systems, like the NES, and the fact that there are many other systems whose complete game library costs far more, and they would therefore drive the perceived point home even better. Otherwise, the whole thing just seems arbitrary and somewhat pointless... Also, $20k is generally seen as a rather large amount of money, especially in your average video game-consumer's world, and especially for one system's collection, which further strengthens its ability to be interpreted that way. In a vacuum, that seems like a lot of money (to most people), and I think the title fools the viewer to initially think that that really _is_ a lot of money for such, like "Holy cow, $20k for a single console's video game collection?!?", but when you look at things comparatively, you quickly realize that that's a drop in the bucket of what's out there. That being said, I'm aware that different people interpret things differently, and the possible complications with semantics and whatnot, so I admit it's possible to be done without the intent to mislead anyone.
