Thank you. I was/am allway intrigued by why and how some skaters and cyclist in front of me were going so seemingly effortless. It has indeed to do a lot with timing in the movements. Especially skating. Once or twice when I rode behind Bart Veldkamp when he was a kid I was amazed. Some people emphasize too much on power and in the process through their body and musscle memory of balance ? (Daphne Schippers too ?) Its like finding the ¨groove¨ in music. !
Above is a comment from Karel, here is my response...
Karel, it definitely is a "groove" - skating is a feel sport, and once a skater gets things right almost all thought goes away as far as technique goes so the mind is free to work on race tactics and track pattern and just...determination. Thank you for the comment!

Definitely a vibe out there on the ice. For me it was like riding the crest of a wave, you need to be just ahead of it

Jeff you got me thinking I should compete for the next winter Olympics. I will only do it if you train me. - Dan

Dan, well the chances of that are slim. I do wish you the best and can assist with my channel! Good luck! Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it very much.

Thanks so much for creating these valuable videos. You mention that during the straight away, during the push Nils has a 90 degree angle behind his knee, but then after the skate hits the ice, the angle gets bigger in order help recover the fatigue. Then at the moment of push, comes back to the 90 degree angle. Is this something that should be done conciously to preserve energy? Or is this something that happens automatically

Dave, thank you for the excellent question. The timing of this is amazingly tricky, but this "amplitude" - dropping into the push and then getting up, out, and over, is the art of it. It is exceptionally challenging to learn, because if you get the timing wrong, all the opposite things happen. In other words, the skater comes up when they should be dropping, move late instead of early, and quickly becomes ineffective. But it can be learned, and the best place to begin is in training where the skater can go really long slow and exaggerated with this style. Overdo it in training, and it will become natural at speed, later. I hope that helps!
