I often think about how good it would’ve been to have HBK active through 1998, too. He got injured at his peak, not just in terms of performance but also as a character. It would’ve been interesting to see what they’d have done with him if he hadn’t gotten injured. Although he came back in 2002 he still missed the best years of the Attitude Era which he was at the forefront of since the last quarter of ‘97.
In a way the Attitude Era was probably better without Shawn in the ring causing shit backstage, politics ,drugs ,drinking and he was probably better off without it to
@Rodney Depp Agree he was the most petty of petty backstage in that time. Had he stayed Austin would have been less iconic and the Rock may have never happened. Heck even HHH may not have ascended to top heel status if Shawn was there.
Yeah HBK was tailor-made for the Attitude Era and would have fit it perfectly. Only question is would his presence get in the way of HHH development. HBK was such a strong character that he overshadowed HHH and made him come off like a side-kick. With HBK gone HHH was really able to come into his own and shine.
I agree it was better without Shawn. Never been a fan and in my opinion, there was far better talent that pushed the Attitude Era to where it ultimately ended up going.
Even now, how do they not realize we don't care about that crap. Just get to the wrestling... I love football, more than wrestling, but football is not what I'm here for...
I've heard multiple things. I've heard his friendship with Bret might have Vince "pull back" on him some. And someone said something about a cocaine habit but I call that "rumor and inuendo." When did coke stop Vince from doing anything?
He had ability, but they never did anything interesting with his character. And in a time when they moved into the attitude promos, Shamrocks underwritten stuff came across too cartoonish. I liked Shamrock before he even went to wwf, i feel his potential was wasted. Look at how big Rousey and Brock blew up.
1:17:32 I think the idea to bring back the NWA into WWF in the late 90s didnt get a lot of good reacations, as at the time a lot of the audiance was more into harcore matches, crazy DX promos, bad ass Ausitn and Rock etc, than bringing back the traditional old school wrestling that the NWA angle tried to do.
That casket match was underrated, it wasn't there best match but it had several cool spots, Shawn's elbow into the casket. Taker with the a tombstone off the apron into the casket. Shawn hit taker with a pile driver on the steel steps..
Funk is my favorite wrestler! The Chainsaw Charlie gimmick was inspired by someone else who did it, if I’m not mistaken, and I could be. I also want to throw in that I hope Corgan succeeds!
Man I'm looking forward to this one whenever it is anything Stone Cold Steve Austin related I'm all over it regardless of my thoughts on the hosts lol.
Of course he wasn't, he was complaining that there wasn't more fake fighting back then while they were making millions and millions, just another inside the bubble clueless mark
Whoa i love missy hyatt but her opening the podcast might be a little…i dunno, her face in 2023 looks a little scary these days. I’m sorry, but it’s true.
Agreed. By not letting nature just taking its course and aging gracefully, she did all that typical plastic surgery crap which just makes her look like an old woman trying to not age.
@1:10:23 It died because those guys all looked like they died in the 80s. They weren't cool, I can still rewatch it and feel how jarring the NWA guys look for the late 90s. Those of us who lived it know why Jim Cornette is full of shit, it WAS tested back then. He can come up with whatever lies he wants but to put it into perspective someone as lame as ICP was able to get over faster than any of those has beens of the NWA.
Conrad simply said a riot happened, JR got pissed about it because Danny Hodge was there, but they never said WHAT happened. What was the CAUSE of the riot????
Aew is always looking for that feel good moment. No matter what they want that feel good moment. That's the lack of story telling. Lack of difference between WWE
What is Conrad's problem with Austin? I could be totally off the mark but he always comes across as not being an Austin fan ,it's like when it's an Austin subject he can't really be bothered, the something to wrestle Austin 98-99 episode was just terrible and not just the audio which was awful
Yeah he's definitely reaching with the Austin killing Jarrett's moment narrative. That NWA moment was dead on arrival. The only thing that saves that segment is Austin coming at the end to stun Jarrett and mock his strut. Without that Austin appearance nobody even remembers that moment.
1998 was a great time for wrestling

@Rodney Depp He was sent home before that after the controversy that was the premier episode of Smackdown
7:00 is when Royal rumble talk begins. college football playoff talk at the beginning if you’re interested!

Even now, how do they not realize we don't care about that crap. Just get to the wrestling...
I love football, more than wrestling, but football is not what I'm here for...
Mick Foley entering three times was my favourite part of this
I truly believe the Mr. McMahon character was the last believable bit of kayfabe in wrestling.

Got excited for a second, I thought Missy Hyatt was co-hosting this episode with Jr 😀
You like gross old women with plastic faces? 😂
I totally forgot that, The Rock and Ken had good matches and fueds
The absolute STATE of Missy Hyatt 🤮
And Jimmy was smashing those guts
Ken Shamrock was so underrated. I’ll argue his talent level was right up there with the likes of Kurt Angle and Brett Hart.
Hehe
Ehhhh... I'm with you but... a little bit of a stretch on that in my opinion
I've heard multiple things. I've heard his friendship with Bret might have Vince "pull back" on him some. And someone said something about a cocaine habit but I call that "rumor and inuendo." When did coke stop Vince from doing anything?
I mean, he was TNA-NWA World Champion....

97 with him and Bret was so great
97 was so good
it was a cool prequel to the attitude era
That's 9 bucks per person buying merch at the arena lol

Ms. Hyatt is scaring me
People turn into what people with mental illness see
Happy Birthday JR
HBK was on 🔥 at this rumble.
Facts 🔥🔥🔥
Shawn was on 🔥 Stone Cold was on 🔥 Casket was on 🔥 Everything was on 🔥
@@johnnyso1979 Undertaker was on fire lit 🔥 🔥🔥🔥

Save with cumrag
1 week jr says i dont like how the dark side ring people edit me the next week im working with them again
The Attitude Era promos were first aired on the Survivor Series
1997 PPV.
Funk is my favorite wrestler! The Chainsaw Charlie gimmick was inspired by someone else who did it, if I’m not mistaken, and I could be. I also want to throw in that I hope Corgan succeeds!
Putting your booty call at the start of the video is diabolical.
I guess Shawn Spears is like the Jacques rougeau of aew since he only gets booked when they're in Canada.
Bad Daddy!!🤣
Man I'm looking forward to this one whenever it is anything Stone Cold Steve Austin related I'm all over it regardless of my thoughts on the hosts lol.
Well damn we’re gonna have to get u some of good old JR’s red ass hot sauce so u can cover and smother your feelings in it
@@Falconesports2025 😂
The porta potty lol
Yes it never crossed their mind. Despite the fact they copied exactly what they're direct rival was doing. Bruce and Jim crack me up.
FRESH COAT OF PAINT!!!!🤯 I'm just saying I could be wrong I thought that's how you're say it.. you guys are awesome
Mr. McMahon was the greatest heel of all time.
I think it's pretty clear JR was not a fan of the Attitude Era.
It does seem that way sometimes. Never stopped him from cashing the biggest paychecks in his career though.
Of course he wasn't, he was complaining that there wasn't more fake fighting back then while they were making millions and millions, just another inside the bubble clueless mark

With Michaels and Hunter doing the fall der all with the European title, I wonder if they used this stupid thing with the Finger Poke of Doom
Austin won 3 rumbles but he hates rumble matches
The guys head in front of me is more interesting then most matches on the card
HBK is the GOAT.

Oh Missy Hyatt you've had my heart for 34years ever since I saw you when I was little lol...still looking good lady😍

Funk out of the Box was a complete flop to me as a 15 year old viewer, didnt get it and wanted it off the screen

I think
He’s a bigger fan of golden age Hulkster WWE and early to late nineties WCW sting/NWO etc
@@Vicsongwriter yeah I think so
It’s because he turned down Connie’s offer to save with Conrad.

@@natesuttenfield2124 lol
Did Missy get her plastic surgery with Conrad?
Miss Hyatt still looks 🔥🔥 like in the 90s
No one cared about the wrestling lmao, imagine wanting less "skits" for more fake fighting
Make no mistake wrestling got better without Shawn...him and antics backstage where poison.
