The issue isn't whether or not Costa Rica has a right to decide whether a mine is built on its land; it obviously does have the right to decide. The issue is that they agreed and then backed out of a legal agreement. I have a right to purchase or not purchase a condo tomorrow, but I can't sign a mortgage and stop paying. It doesn't work that way, and I hope that international courts can set a precedent to deter countries from doing this and hurting global trade.
I hate how corporations get to sue for anticipated losses--money they don't have yet. That is asinine logic.
