Not underrated at all. It's full of cliches, poorly developed characters, stupid dialogue and stuff is just randomly happening. It even has a higher rating than I'd expect. It's fun to watch. But so it's a lot of other stupid stuff.

But later just couldn't go over all of the sloppy acting, how they aren't consistent in world building (e.g. money problems of Stone's), how cop drama is like not at all believable. This could have been an amazing sci-fi mystery with deep exploration of the characters. But everything is so jumbled up I can't even see if it adds up or not.
